Run at least a diagnostic tool so we know exactly what kind of processor and graphical processor unit (GPU) that is in that laptop. What resolution do that laptop have?

Cpu-z and gpu-z is small and easy to use apps that you find by Google it

Don't forget that you need to have double amount space on SSD or harddrive to unpack files. After that you should only need around 80 GB for main client when those files have been updated.

For PvE in general you should be able to run game even on low end computers, but it can get down to low FPS and a laggy feeling when there is many people in a spot. In larger scale PvP it is even hard for high end computers to keep a stable FPS. Changing video settings to low doesn't seem to have a large impact on FPS (maybe 20 FPS improvement). You can confirm this your self by using search feature on this forum or by Google this site.

My laptop is a 5 year old potato and it "runs" this game (as in I have the settings low and am used to playing with 15-25 FPS on a good day)

Looks like it should be similar to the gt970 so yes but definitely not on ultra settings or anything. Will also depend heavily on your cpu.

I used to play on a Dell lappie with core i7 , 8gb ram and 1gb dedicated video. It worked fine but the fans couldn't cope with the heat and the bios used to shut it down. I bought a usb cooling base which has 5 fans which solved the problem. A new lappie might not have the cooling problem but if it does you can pick up the coolers for £10 or so on eBay

What does it even mean?! I see this kind of description all the time in advertisments and I don't understand what's the point. You can have widely different GPUs with the same memory.

It means that there should be 1GB video RAM (vRAM) that is (on most system) faster memory modules then normal system RAM for GPU to access. On integrated GPU there is only a very small amount dedicated memory (less then 1GB) which work more like a buffer between GPU and system RAM.

As an example: On stationary desktop will have maybe 8GB or even 16 GB DDR4 RAM for system memory and a GTX 1080 which have its own 8 GB GDDR5 (5 here means it is one generation after DDR4; newer and more costly RAM technology then DDR4). This have an impact when you push up resolution to above 1920 x 1080 pixels which more calculation can be done on the faster memory section instead of going the long patch between GPU, GDDR5 and system memory (DDR4).

OS allocate all available space in system memory from the moment you turn on your computer, so there is no "free space" in that sense when we talk about RAM. (You can look in Windows Task Manager for how memory is being allocated and for type of task). When system RAM is being used for video processing it means that something else need to be moved around in system RAM, until that task have been finished, which takes time (even milliseconds are still time).

On discrete video cards, you will see memory chips allocated around GPU. Anything that must travel through PCI express lane will have a short delay until it is in system RAM and back to GPU. Fastest connection is between GPU and lanes connecting memory chips around GPU.

It is more complex then this in reality, but should give you enough understanding to why it is marketing the way it is and what impact it might have on a laptop.

If you don't have enough space on your laptop and have a desktop with enough space on a hard drive or SSD, then you can unpack client on that device and then move (copy) ESO client to your laptops SSD or hard drive. Just make sure to run a repair from launcher to update links/windows path way on your laptop when everything have been moved.

It will take some time both to unpack (this is done by downloading and unpacking different parts; uncompleted parts will have file name with "part" in the end and then turn to "dat" files) and to move files from one drive to another, so be patient.

In "My Documents" (it is individual for each user account on windows) you will find a folder named "live" and maybe also "PTS" (if you have downloaded PTS once) among other. In Live folder you will have your Add ons and SavedVariables (both are needed when you have add ons; SavedVariables is where your settings for add on will be stored). Everything in "Live" folder should be placed on the same path (C:\Users\UserName4Account\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live) when you copy this folder to laptop, but with UserName4Account changed to what ever name you gave your windows user account on laptop.

Replace "UserName4Account" with the name you gave your windows (user) account. It is the same name you will see each time when you log into windows right above password.

Make sure to create a copy of "UserSettings.txt" (place it where you can find it later, if you need it) and delete that version which is being moved to laptop. ESO client will create a new default UserSettings.txt (that is because you might use another resolution etc then on a desktop). You can open any text edition like Windows Notepad to compare what is in each line in UserSettings.txt and search or jump with [control + F]. With a window open for each version in Notepad you can now see what is different an adjust directly or just do it from "Settings" in game.

In short: there are main client file with sub folder which should be placed where it is enough space. Normally placed in Program Files sub direction related to other apps on windows, but it can be placed anywhere as long you let launcher update its path.

The other other part is to move or copy your settings from Live folder to the equivalent path on your laptop.

Yeah rip, I've heard too many horror stories about AMD and like every game imaginable.

My nvidia card has never failed me.

Thank you for the explanation, but that wasn't quite my point. "1 GB GPU" without specifying the model doesn't tell me what I need to know when I'm buying a PC.

Gtx1080 and I still dip down to 10fps in mournhold. Doesn't really matter what gpu you run the game is just extremely poorly optimized.
