Scathing mage could be a good set

Good potential, bad set in most cases, with the next update i would love to try 5 bsp,5 scathing mage, but there is only one problem, the uptime on scathing is lower then bsp in most cases, and that's only with blockade and light attack weaving, this set needs a proc chance buff, 30/40 %, maybe 50 if you are lucky as hell, on a good rotation is not good at all, this would be an excellent set otherwise, for pretty much all classes, and it would give some much needed competition to acuity, which would mean more build diversity in end game.

Personally, i would lower the proc chance to about 10 %, but make it so it procs from dots also, so classes like templar and dk can actually use this set, i don't know if it's better to leave it at just crits, or make it so normal hits also have the chance to proc it.

This is not a nerf acuity post, i think acuity is fine, i just wish it had some better competition, and this set could be one of them along with bsp, and some other very few sets.

Well Scathing Mage is best procced with force pulse since that counts as 3 separate direct attacks. But yeah even then it's bad. Even if it's paired with a good crit set it's bad.

I have a golden set in bank .

This set went dead after twisting path patched .

Scathing should have an 8sec duration with 6 second cooldown. This way it’ll maybe see some use if your spammable is force pulse.

Yea, this set went dead after they fixed the twisting bug, a set that relies on a bug is not a good thing, as i said above, i think 10 % chance on dots and direct damage would make this set a good contender

I wear bsw on front bar and scathing on both and light attack weave with everything I cast and my spammable is force pulse. I only do about 1k less then bsw and siroria on a dummy test and siroria can stay at the max stacks the entire time because you don’t have to move at all obviously. So I guess what I’m saying is scathing on both bars because of crit, bsw front bar, Vma inferno back bar and zaans set combo does very good dps for me. Maybe not for you and your playstyle and that’s cool. Works great for mine.

Also with it being on both bars giving good crit I notice it pretty much procs EVERY time I’m on the front bar with bsw and carries over. Lots of times I see it proc back to back maaaaaany times.

With Mother's Sorrow and Thief and Force Pulse I am getting 60-65% uptime what is far better than BSW when used on a magblade. I love it in dungeons, but it requires so much effort to make it viable.

I think the idea of critical direct damage as proc chance is nice, but there are too many conditions to proc it with such los procchance. I’d say remove the cooldown so you have 6 seconds to proc it again an refresh it’s uptime.

The set needs a general buff on all fronts, even if it would mean some adjustments needed to be made to the set overall. It has a much harder proc condition than something like BSW, while also providing less Spell Damage and while the potential for 100% is there, it's just not physically possible without being a DPS loss.

Personally, I would adjust it so as to be able to proc on ALL crit damage, DoT and Direct Damage, reduce the proc chance to 15% and maybe extent the CD on it to 8-9 seconds to prevent it from being up 100% of the time and remaining in line with BSW as far as Spell Damage gain is concerned, making both sets equally viable options without one being the clear winner.

So what does Scathing Mage proc on?
    • Light attacks?
    • Heavy attacks?
    • First hit of channeled heavy attacks?
    • Pet attacks?
    • AoE direct damage? (On one target? On all of them? What if the AoE is a splash?)

    Wut.

Scathing Mage isn't bad. It's not BiS, but it's still a very good set.

It's not hard to keep the uptime similar to BSW, but in that scenario BSW wins because of the extra Burning uptime.
