Out-Of-Place Witty Comments Should Equal Temporary Suspension

I've had enough. Across all the forum communities I'm a part of (this one being no exception), every time there is a thread where the discussion is serious, some troll has to ruin it by posting a witty comment.

I would like to propose an amendment to the Forum CoC for this forum: That if a person makes a witty comment in a thread where such witty comments are uncalled for or otherwise out of place, they should be warned, suspended, or perma-banned for trolling. Cos more often than not, these "out-of-place jesters" seek to ruin threads by posting witty comments.

Yes, there should be some room to have fun (for example, the weekly Patch Notes/Natch Potes thread is a great time to be joke around while patiently waiting for the megaservers to come back up). However, that said, there is a time to be witty and a time to be serious. Several times over the past several weeks across many of my forum communities, trolls would post a witty comment in an attempt to ruin the thread and earn some pointless Likes, Agrees, Awesomes, or whatever the reaction buttons are for that forum.

People who are "out-of-place jesters" should be warned, suspended, or banned for trolling (depending on how many violations of Forum CoC that person has), and have their post removed, along with any Insightfuls, Agrees, and/or Awesomes they got as a result of their witty comment removed from their profile.

And just like that, trolls and their witty comments come out of the woodwork to accuse me of being a troll and derail my thread, even though they are fully aware that their witty comments are derailing good-intentioned threads for no reason other than to give them amusement.

I think the miscommunication here is that you're framing "humour police" as "good-intentioned". If you truly want an only-serious forum, with only serious threads, about only serious topics, what on Earth persuaded you that an MMO forum of all things would be such a place?

You mean derail your thread that only served to cater to your own sense of do-goodery, lashing out at those of us who have a sense of humor, that only seems to give you a self arranged pat on the back...

And you're surprised the witty comments "came out of the woodwork" when you present such a golden opportunity for some comic relief...

Lovely. And I thought this community was one of the best communities in the entire MMO genre...now I'm not so sure.

and, that's kind of the whole point - you have zero control over the context of your thoughts and ideas once you put them out there for the world to absorb...

No thank you . I enjoy light hearted posts from everyone on overly serious threads . Sometimes it's off color but most of the time someone will get me to laugh and that's apart of the fun of the forums . Trying to get people banned for harmless fun that could easily be fixed with the ignore feature is pushing for too much . The moderators are very good at cleaning up spam here and handling the forums the proper way . You don't have to read those of you don't want too just put who ever is making you this salty on ignore and move on with your serious discussion .
