Master, Maelstrom, and Asylum Weapons Unchanged (Why?)

- The Master, Maelstrom, and Asylum 2-Handed weapon sets now require 2 pieces to complete the set.
- Since 2-Handed weapons always grant 2 pieces of an item set bonus, this change is purely cosmetic.


With 2H weapons now counting as 2 pieces, why aren't these unique sets getting updated. Won't 5 piece bonuses outperform Master/Maelstrom/Aylum plus a 3 piece set like Agility/Willpower?

    I'm hoping these will get looked at sooner rather than later. Perhaps they are waiting to do a full comprehensive pass on all these items to make more of them relevant and that's why there is no change right now.

    But I didn't gather that it was actually fixed, just only consumed by "DoTs/Attacks cast from your bar now" i.e. no twin blade and blunt, enchants etc. But it was my understanding that the issue was that it procced on the first tick of flurry and was consumed on the second tick of flurry? Maybe I'm wrong, I hope so, and haven't used them extensively, but yea I hope they're fixed.

    Issue was with Dots consuming it and not getting buff i.e. Poison Injection, Blunt Bleed etc. Previously when you were applying PI then switching bar and casting rending slashes then most likely PI was consuming Cruel Furry effect but (was not even getting buff)

    Now for example running on DK you can using rending slashes and then apply powerful DOT via Venomous Claw etc.

    Ok so that's awesome, so it doesn't get consumed by sending slashes bleed or poison inject dot etc anymore? Cause those skills are "on your bars" but the damage is counted as a different source?(in combat metrics it shows the skill name with and asterisk next to it if it the skills dot)

    With these changes you can actually have 2 5pc sets a monster set and 1 Special Weapon.

    Viper Jewelry and 2 pc body
    Morkuldin 4 pc body bow
    1 Domihaus
    1 Maelstrom 2hAxe

    Next patch I can have
    Viper jewelry 2pc Body
    3pc morkuldin body and bow (total 5 pc on back bar)
    2 troll king
    1 Maelstrom 2h Axe

    I’ll lose 1 Weapon Damage set bonus on backbar and gain full monster set. Worth it.

    It sucks. Stupid that such cool weapons continually take nerfs. In PvE I will probably drop the asylum battle-axe in favor of monster set.

    I was joking before, but they deserve a pass. Sentiental monster set vastly overpowers the master resto staff. The arena staves aren't easier to get then monster helms. Feels like efforts aren't being rewarded.

    I have to say, I'm torn on this. On the one hand, yes, I think these kinds of weapons (especially vMA weapons, since they require actual strong individual effort) should be very desirable. At the same time, I REALLY dislike how for a while now Maelstrom staff/bow were BiS in PvE, hands down, no argument, get it or get the heck out. That's not ideal either. There needs to be some leeway there.

    The back bar weapons will most likely remain there because their main advantage was that you could use them and swap to the front bar, which you can still do. This is more about the rest (master dual Wield, destro+resto, vMA 2h and Dual Wield, Asylum Dual Wield, Destro, 2h and Resto) so basically all that you use on your front bar. These are competing with a 5 piece bonus and another normal bonus (E.g. BSW with 257 spell damage at 50% uptime and Burning every 12-16 seconds and a spell critical bonus).

    Undoubtedly most of the arena weapons need a rework of some kind. Getting through the hardest content should reward you with something that is at least as good as other gear.

    Here’s another vote for adding the stat bonus back to master weapons.

    1 piece bonus: 1K Max Magicka or Stamina (depending on the item)

    2 piece bonus: whatever the two piece bonus is now.

    This would make the master weapons more competitive with say, three piece agility or willpower.

    The bonus to flame reach on the master destruction staff is worse than 1.5K Magicka and the big spell bonus for wearing just ONE more piece.

    Strongly agree with this, vMA adds a whole new experience for the individual. Why make these weapons which ppl put in so much effort to get on par which normal crafted/dun weapons is beyond me.

    ZOS please look into this.

    I like the idea suggested by @Minalaan 1k stam/mag, weapon dmg or crit. Normal 1 piece triat which would slightly buff them compared to the rest.

    Preliminary testing is showing that front-barred special weapons are losing for 5/5/2 front bar.

    vMA Inferno/Lightning and vMA Bow are still showing higher DPS, though it needs more testing with sets that can proc the 5 piece back bar to work while on front.

    I ran a quick test with 5*spriggan, 5*Hundings, 2*Stormfist, vs 5*Spriggan, 3/5 (backbar/front bar)*Hunding , 2*Stormfist and 1*(really 2* now I guess) vMSA Bow (backbar).

    The results were negligible difference in DPS (around 500 DPS in favor of vMSA, could have simply been normal variance).

    Others should verify, but a quick look confirms the obvious. Specialty items are not so special anymore.

    It's kinda appalling that these weapons were not updated. Aside from the fact that this concern was raised multiple times following the release of pre-PTS details, it's simply a logical thing that ought to be done.

    I'm guessing the backbar arena weapons are still BiS, but the frontbar ones are history if this isn't addressed. RIP my Maelstrom battleaxe in PvP. Pure absurdity that rewards from some of the hardest content in the game will be outperformed by generic 5pc sets.

    Literally all it would take to rectify this would be to give them their old stat bonuses back, in the form of a 1pc set bonus.

    P.S. Actually... the imperfect Asylum weapons should be exempted from this buff (i.e. only perfected weapons should get the stat bonus). This would give a better gradation to differentiate between perfect & imperfect versions. At the moment, imperfect 2Hs are far too easy to get, and have almost no performance decrease vs. perfect.

    I'd love for them to get a 1st set piece bonus as well. They can always give the master bow and dagger a crit bonus on 1st piece if they don’t want them buffed too much for PvP, and make them better for PvE. (Not saying crit is completely wasted in PvP, but you get the idea) I can understand that the Maelstrom Bow and Destro staff probably don’t need to become even more powerful but looking at most master weapons it would be very welcome to get a 1st piece like monster sets indeed :)


    Looking at monster sets and two-handed weapons change it would make sense in terms of consistency as well.

    This needs to be addressed. The VMA 2H is already mediocre and will be totally worthless in the coming patch. Give us our tempers back or buff the sets. [snip] Seems pretty obvious to me.

    I can't believe I spent so much time farming vMA, vDSA and nAS for those "special" weapons that will now all gather dust.
    Well the vMA 2H has already been gathering dust for a while now.

    The Asylum 2H will definitely join it's older brother in the bank of shame. Not sure about the master bow, but most probably (Since it's a bit awkward to proc, I don't see the advantage of using it over another 5 pieces set)

    Overall I'm happy about all the new build possibility Summerset will bring with jewelry crafting and two-handed weapon counting as two piece bonus, but it is truly lame that all those special weapons that took so much work to farm will become near useless in PvP.

    Simply adding their old bonuses (Wep damage and max ressource would make more up to par with potential 5th bonus set)

    I don't think they should bother with these weapons until they find a way to make them available to PvP players or introduce new weapon sets that PvP players could obtain.
