I don't get it. Buoyant Armiger Motif book for 3.5 mil gold

I saw this listed on the NA PC server for 3.5 mil. IDK whether it came from a drop or a super rare Jubilee box reward or whether someone will actually pay that (I've heard of them actually being sold for 2 mil though.) I don't think I've seen an actual weapon or piece of gear listed recently for more than 200K and that would be gold jewelry... which will lose some of its value once jewelry crafting is in the game.

So... something that is just for looks is worth 10 times more than something that enhances your power?

Whatever happened to this game? Has ESO become just a fashion show? :)

I guess it is a result of having lots of spare cash and liking the armor? I don't, I don't understand the fad but hey, to each their own.

I don't think this really changes the game. There are always folks who have an interest in this sort of thing in MMOs just as there are those who don't care.

From what I've heard, gold motif books (those with all pages included) have collector value. Some players keep them in their inventories/banks, etc... just for the sake of "having them".
    Hence the very high prices.

I don't get it either, but obviously, it exists.

Well you cannot really SELL or BUY much that enhances your power that other people cannot just farm themselves. You know?

I know some people who collect but never 'use' the gold full books.

This is what I have heard as well.

The completed books are kept by some as fun things to show off.

laziness. A gold book means you dont have to search for each piece. Someone who has 8 digit savings probably could care less for the mil or so difference.

some players in this game have in the hundreds of millions- although the book is worth more than the 12 motif pages combined- some people would buy that kind of thing for collectings sake, as someone mentioned .

Yeah I've heard of that too.

The game economy just seems bonkers to me compared to most other MMOs I've played where powerful items are also near the top of the price heap. Not here though after they decided to make all dungeon and trial gear BOP.

It just seems so disproportionate that collector or fashion or +XP cash shop competitors are so much more than the best of the best gear that can be bought/sold.

I saw Mazzatun book listed for 2,9m, but I bought pages separately which cost me like 300-400k, seems like a really great deal...

Well, considering they have been selling for 150 - 225K a page since Morrowind dropped, that sounds close.
Have you farmed the Armiger Motif?? Yea, it's that rare...

I've seen super rare enchanting mats sell for millions, but I've never been willing to buy one to see what the enchantment actually does. None of the wikis say what these mats do, either. I think they must have dropped from some early version of ESO, but none have dropped for a long time.

The most expensive glyphs are typically Prismatic because one of the components comes from IC. But that's in the tens of thousands.

I've never seen any glyph for millions. Although people are free to post anything for any price provided they're willing to take the hit on the listing fee :)

Yep. MMOs have limited endgame. Once you have done all the story mode and got your gear (ESO has little gear grind. Even less next patch.) You have little options. Trials, few groups can do all the endgame PvE, when they are done all that is needed is score runs until the next fancy trial is released, which takes a lot of production. PvP, which is little content, but the variety comes from the players.

So many companies release cosmetics, both collectible in game, and buyable for revenue and length of game. These are easy to produce, as they often use premade assets. Easy to gain. (Generally, doesn't require a large, well trained group. Planning, etc.) and enough that it takes a long time to get, and by then, more will exist.

    Hence "fashion is endgame"

At launch, there were 2 or 3 runes and don't remember their names, but they got renamed (?) i believe so those became redundant except to the "Collectors" who pay BIG bucks for discontinued items.
After the big provisioning change that changed all the foods and recipes, I saw ppl in chat wanting to buy "Old Tomatoes" and other non usable items..Crazy huh?????

Probably means the old scrapped runes that used to drop that some collectors get. They do nothing, but cannot be gained any longer. A few other things are the ? Items, trueflame and hopesfire from fishing, and other removed crafting items. I once found an ? item in old orsinium, but it was replecable, and one of the removed provisioning items.

Pretty annoyed I deleted one of the old provisioning items, weirdly enough it dropped post removal, and even said it was discontinued. May try and find it, since I remember the spot.

There were a few runes that dropped as bugs, that didn't have a description even after they were learned, and had the same effect as some other common rune. I had a few. I tried learning them, and then gave the rest away or sold them (cheap) to people who wanted to collect them.

Edit: Just checked TTC, and I see a number of them listed in 175K-250K range.

The GM of a guild I used to belong to bought every gold book on the market that he could find. His hopes were that one day they could be converted into furnishings for his house and he could display all his gold books.

For most, it's a vanity thing they hope to be able to show off down the road.

I have no such vain ideals, and learned the only gold book I've ever found... so what if it was only Imperial!

No, something super duper rare is worth 10 times more than something not nearly so rare.

    That said, however...
Whatever happened to this game? Has ESO become just a fashion show? :)

Uh, yes? Just like every other MMO I've ever played? Looking cool and/or different than the other players is worth quite a bit.
Also, from a "cash shop" perspective - I'd rather that cosmetic $ things cost more than functional things - because cosmetics are optional/luxuries, while actual game function things are stuff that people might need to buy.

Another thought - contributing to the price of that thing isn't just Rarity and Fashion, but also that third Crazy Human Thing: Collecting! Gotta have 'em all, after all. ;)

(saw someone offering the Worm Cult full book in chat yesterday or the day before for 1.9m, PC-US)

Yeah. If there is a new motif that i really like, i'm happily paying up to 100k for the page. I mean, when it comes from a place where i cant farm it on my own like a dlc dungeon, or with fubar dropchances.
Motifs that i just want for completing collection i only buy when they r cheaper than 20k/page.
At the same time, i consider golding out armor a stupid waste of gold/resources. Im also exclusively using crafted weapons...

Hard to get stuff where ppl would pay alot is usually bop. I could imagine vma weaps that someone called bis in his stream selling for several 100ks of gold tho.
