I hope mountains aren't a thing again.

First off, I've already purchased so this isn't that big of a thing to me but after last time I thought I'd pose a couple of questions.

1) Did anyone else pay attention to all of the cliffs and rocky mountainous areas in the trailer for Summerset?

2) Even though it is a larger map, what percentage of it do you think will be available for travel vs. impassable terrain.

Im guessing at worst 60-40. Majority will be accessible but in order to give us a larger zone while cutting down on memory use quite a bit will be pretty filler.

I suspect the south and the area around Cloudrest/Eton Nir will be largely inaccessible.

As to question one, yes, I did pay attention to them and thought the same as you. As for question two, I can only hope the impassable mountainous terrain is kept to a minimum. I expect some, but too much becomes irksome.

what really drives me nuts about morrowind and other maps are the walls/mountains that are constantly used to gate you in some way and limit your freedom of movement for NO reason other than just being insanely annoying

so youd rather just walk off the edge of the planet?

Similar to MW, I'm thinking about half the map will be cut off in creative ways and there will be a lot of locked away doors.

Yup, I actually spawned up to my waist in a stone walkway last night in Hew's Bane. I had to exit the game to get out.

This I agree with, although invisible walls are better than countdowns like some games have where you just die a couple seconds after you leave the zone.

That is true. I guess slaughterfish are a slight improvement.

Its natural topography. Just means you have to find away around. Ive hike 57km over 3 mountains
Land is so much prettier when it isnt just flat and boring. Nobody from elsewhere in the world goes to see the prairies, they want to see the rockies.
As long as theres stuff to do ON the actually mountains and ridges then I dont care.

I like the slaughterfish. :) At least that is a reason not like, "Oops, I forgot to tell you don't go there or you die, for no reason, from something you can't see, just because we couldn't think of a better way to keep you over here."

my fav from MORROWIND are all the buildings that can't be entered... we could enter all of them in the original MORROWIND.

    minimal effort.

Rich said in the stream that a lot more of Summerset will be explorable than in Morrowind. I don't remember the exact quote but he definitely stated we'd get more.

He mentioned that Summerset and Artaeum combined was larger than Vvardenfell.

Definitely looks like the southern area would be mostly impassable (especially, if you recall the older map that resurfaced in the thread nearby, where summerset was divided in two, and the lower part looked roughly the same shape as the mountainous area on the picture)

@LittlePinkDot A bit offtopic: you probably haven't seen a proper sea of grass where you could gaze tens of kilometers around and see not a soul. And, maybe some summer storm brooding far far away.

But I like mountainous landscapes ingame

Like I said it doesn't really matter to me, but I do hope I can travel from place to place without always having to stay close to the road.

That is likely my biggest complaint of the game to be honest.

I remember passing through the prairies on my way west... early November. -10C and terrible wind chill over that flat expanse. Froze my ass off.

The most beautiful views of fields of alpine flowers, tumbling glaciers and fresh glacier water you can drink straight from the waterfalls are in the mountains. But too many people are either just too attached to modern comforts or too out of shape to discover it. Got to get away from the car. Its kinda a L2P issue lol.

For as large as Morrowind was 40 percent definitely felt like it was the Red Mountain in the center.

cyrodil shares that same designer sadism in some areas.

For cyrodiil the point is creating chokepoints like the bridges where you are very likely to run into an enemy

the whole game has inaccessible doors and all the mountains can be skyrimhorsed right over. please give us a fresh complaint to read instead of retreading positively elderly discussions.

I mean Rivenspire is all blocked off with mountains and no one complained about that. Bangkorai has a mountain range in the middle splitting it in half. Even Greenshade and Reaper's march split up their maps with cliffs and mountains forcing you to go around.

I understand complaining about the huge red mountain in morrowind and all the locked doors but using mountains to direct you through the zone is used in almost all the zones in the game.
