Summerset chapter first take

Having purchased every dlc and chapter, here’s my first take on the ground-shaking announcement.

New zone: meh. Probably one of the least interesting zones on my list, plus I got excited by the giant morrowind zone and was disappointed. At this point in the game, new cookie-cutter zones feel a bit dull, regardless how nostalgic or pretty they might be.

Jewelry craft: blah. I mean, people want it. It would have excited me June, 2015. Now there are so many sets I can live without it, and it feels like one of the most mundane major additions they could have added. Probably should have come with Clockwork, honestly. The six new jewelry traits could be cool...but I have low expectations.

Psijic Order skills: meh. I’d hoped to see maybe a few new weapon lines. A few new skills...okay, could be cool, not really excited. In my opinion the descriptions of the line make it sound trite...maybe it’s just me, but I foresee this going in the mostly unused drawer with mages guild, fighters guild, dark brotherhood, etc.

What’s missing:

No new vet zone. I get they want new content to be open to everyone, but there’s no zone like the original craglorn concept where it’s tough as heck and for experience players. I’m personally tired of new trials and dungeons...I kinda wanted the black marsh concept zone to launch.

NO PVP UPDATE. Gotta be careful, the moderators don’t like me complaining too much. But it’s been four years, and Alliance War is just a CORNERSTONE of the game. I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really wanted Alliance War Season 2 - a major update to Cyrodiil and the aspects of that part of the game.

Overall

To me, ESO feels like it’s aging out. I’d hoped the chapters would keep it up to par with new releases, but we really feel rooted in 2014 gaming. ESO is still my game of choice, and where I’ll spend my money, but I’m not going to pick up a pre-release...I’ll wait and see how this is rated, then maybe wait for a sale.

If anything, this announcement has me wondering when it will be time for The Elder Scrolls Online 2. It feels like that day is approaching.

My thoughts on this thread: meh.
I disagree completely. Your playstyle is probably different from mine, though. Next time, maybe you'll get something that suits you better, and I'll be the one saying "meh." LOL. That would be fine with me, though. I want everybody to be happy, not just me.

No new Vet Zone: Look, when Craglorn was practically dead pre-One Tamriel, so they've almost certainly scrapped Murkmire. Group questing in Craglorn is pretty hit or miss, and unless that improves I don't see them adding a new group/vet zone.

No new PVP update: Look, an Alliance War 2 without serious server and lag fixes is going to be the same old buggy mess as the Alliance War 1. They've got fixes to make before they roll out new content. Also, I'm pretty ZOS thinks Battleground maps are a more efficient use of the devs' time.

when Craglorn was practically dead pre-One Tamriel

Craglorn wasn’t a vet zone, it was a GROUP vet zone. I think that was problematic. Now, every area of the game outside of vet dungeons is set at a consistent “easy mode”. And every zone has the same layout of generic quests, npcs, world bosses, etc. I think there’s room in the game for a little variety, and something to give vet players something to play that has repeat value.
ZOS thinks Battleground maps are a more efficient use of the devs' time.

I play both, and it seems like there are ten times as many people in alliance war as battlegrounds at any given time...based on queue waiting times for BGs. But I tend to agree...BGs probably are a better use of dev’s time, because BGs are probably the biggest fail ever introduced into the game. I can’t get guildies or anyone to play them...they’re almost universally hated. I think they could be fixed, but it’s been a year and the most brilliant idea seems to be to turn CPs on and off over and over.

No PVP content / update is a true disappointment for me :/ seems like a vast PVE zone. Cool for those who like it but Im not excited yet about this update.

Same here, my guild-mates kind of hate them :/

I mainly play alone or with friends I made in BG cause we are the fewer ones

Definitely would like a massive update to cyrodiil/overhaul.
