I just love the way they do the crates. Even if I didn't get what I want (radiant apex) I can still spend my hundreds of gems on whatever I please which keeps me coming back for more.

The Crown Crates offer Abundance of impressive , odd, powerful and extraordinary rewards, but they are insignificant ultimately , At least they are indeed for me. I will not bother if they are removed, nor I will complain if the change certain aspects.

The boxes aren't going to stop me from enjoying the magnificent game, it's but tiny spark of what game has to offer.

Tis a joy to open a box, I got a boar pet and dozens of very potent potions ;)

It´s not only very constructive and illustrative, it´s also very funny. 2x1, a better market model than gambling for a chance to win something.

Only people whom have never played cards for a profession think of casinos as gambling

This is a pretty odd thing to say. Professional cards is hardly a commonplace occupation.

Glad to hear it since it generates revenue for the company which keeps the game alive with new development.

Well, it generates revenue. Not sure about the other stuff.

DLC's and chapters..that is new development work.

Okay, you've not shown a connection between crown crates and new DLC.

To be fair, you haven't shown it isn't true, either.

I'd think in a balance of probabilities, the coin falls on the side that revenue from crown crates, to some degree, is returned into development of ESO.

Unless you have something to the contrary?

I went to bed and the thread derailed. Sorry for the delayed serious response.

I don't have any reason to doubt that some of the profits from crown crates goes back into developing ESO.

However, game development and salaries has to come from a stable source of income. You can't "gamble" with paying your employees. So the money that keeps the lights running, as it were, comes from relatively stable sources like ESO+ and game, DLC, and chapter sales.

Then, we have to consider the predatory nature of Crown Crates. Locking the items behind gambling is done in order to make players spend more than they otherwise would to get the item they want. Using Crown Crates as the mechanism instead of putting items straight in the Crown Store is a decision driven by desire for profit.

However, if, as you say, ZOS is using that profit for developing the game, I draw one of two conclusions.
    A. They are spectacularly bad at it, failing to fix long term infrastructure issues with the money.
    B. They are so desperate for cash that they are willing to alienate players with predatory gambling practices. Desperate instead of greedy.
I don't see evidence of either. I do see ZOS trucking along with new DLC, exactly as if they had a set budget based on stable sources of game income.

Basically, cosmetics have an excellent cost/profit ratio for ZOS. Putting them in Crown Crates boosts the profit part of that ratio higher. However, its not a steady, stable source of income so I doubt that the extra profit from locking items behind Crown Crate gambling is necessary for the future development of the game (except in a "see, we are making so much profit, shareholders!" Sort of way.) That's not to say that NO profit from Crown Crates goes back into developing ESO, but just to say that the game is in terrible shape financially if future game development is actually being funded by Crown Crates instead of other more stable source of income.

TLDR: if you want to support the development of the game, buy ESO+, not Crown Crates.

They'd profit regardless of whether or not they keep the crown crates or put the items in the Crown Store directly. Crown Crate gambling merely lets them milk more money out of you.

Im very much convinced tho that they would make more money if all the items were for direct purchase. Then people that refuse to buy crown crates would potentially spend money in the shop . I know I would never pay a cent for crown crates, just like I never paid a cent after a one time purchase of cartel packs for swtor. Pure scamcrates.

    Possibly? Its hard to judge.

I assume that players that flat boycott Crown Crates are rare. Most players, I suspect would buy crates to get something they really want for crown gems.

Lets say I want something worth 100 gems. Like the All Research scroll, for example. That's worth 7500 crowns to buy the respective 7 day scrolls. But for me to have a nearly guaranteed chance at getting enough crown gems to get that item, I have to buy around 30 crates (I get around 4 gems per crate, and 30 crates is cheaper to buy than 25.) So that's 10,000 crowns, and 2500 crowns worth of profit for ZOS. Now, I might get more crown gems or more of the item I want, but ZOS makes a solid profit off of that.

Its also a nice way to equalize the profits on mounts. If you know that players don't buy, say, camels, mix them up in the RNG box and now their value is the same as the others, but you didnt waste the effort of making them on relatively fewer sales.
