Motif knowledge transfer

I wish there was a way to transfer motif knowledge from one character to another. I don't know, maybe go to a crafting station and make a book or something that can then be transferred to other characters on the same account. If you want to advance each character, you can do that, but for me, getting some of the rarer motifs more than once is just depressing.

There are just so many motifs now, it's crazy to expect us to go chase the motif for each character anymore.

I would prefer they just make it account-wide, like they do for the outfit system. There is that at least, which is pretty much the most important part.

There is NO WAY I will ever try to collect every motif with a second character though :P

I actually thought motifs became account-wide until a few days ago. Very inconvenient considering how the Outfit system works.

Agree, one need to put so much gold and effort in collecting all the motifs, recipies, etc. that it would be very nice to have it account wide.

    Would be really cool B)

I thought you could just transfer an unopened writ to the character who could make it. As long as you have the motif on your account you can fulfil the writ, and the reward can normally also be passed around.

You can bank writs if they aren't opened. However, motif knowledge is character bound for the purposes of crafting and account wide for the outfit system.

I like the current system, which gives functionality to the outfit system while perserving the value of motifs for crafting.

I don’t think that’s how it works. The only thing shared across your account in terms of motifs is with the outfit system. In order to actually craft any gear with a particular motif, such as a writ, my understanding is that it needs to be with the character that has it learned.

I agree with the OP that it would be really nice to be able to transfer motif knowledge to another character as it would be far more convenient (and skill point efficient) to designate a crafting character.

Do you mean "transfer" in the sense that the original character would forget the motif and the new character would learn it?

    Or did you mean "copy"?

That's one reason why I have only 1 equipment crafter. That way I only need to learn each motif once.

Why? I have one crafter. I have no need for another character to learn motifs. Leveling up a second crafting character is a waste of time.

Id be ok with account wide and more rare drops. I only have one character that is collecting all motifs. The rest learn just basic. All my extra purples go on the trader rather than learned by multiple characters

Yes for account wide motifs. Since you are already able to just switch character when a motif is needed that your non-crafter doesn't have, making the motifs account wide would save time relogging. Currently (almost) nobody is crazy enough to collect all motifs on multiple characters anyway, and this could at least motivate people to have several crafters. Furthermore, the current half account wide for outfitting, half character wide for crafting artificial division is just plain confusing.

Tell me about it, i have 3 dedicated crafters, each being a master in two crafting skills, plus a 4th character that collects all achievements.
That means, i need 4 copies of each style motif.

I hind-sight, that was a bad choice on my end, but i bought into the whole hype of "play as you want". Silly me ...

They won't do it. It's one of their time and gold sinks. People spend a ton of time to farm motifs for use or sale and people spend a ton of money buying them as crafters. Motifs learned increases your chances of obtaining a master writ from daily writs.

At least the outfit station is account wide. If you didnt know all you need to do is access the station with the character that knows the motifs and then it is available to all characters on your account.

I think the whole idea is to make it harder to mass collect the Master Writs.

Besides, just send the Master Writ to the Crafter who knows the Motif. Not sure why they have to dumb the game down just to make it easier to do a Master Writ.

And, if it's looks you after, just use your outfit slot and make one. All characters can make any known motif on the account.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm curious, what is the reason you want account wide motif knowledge? I honestly can't think of an advantage crafting in the style gives you over using the Outfit Station to reskin something, unless you think you'll be dyeing the gear often.

And since master writs are bankable and sellable, it seems like you could just funnel them into your crafter.

I'm not sure if I ever accidentally read a motif page on an alt but I guess it's be nice to have the choice to take the knowledge from them and stick it on my crafter if I did.

Before the crafting bag, I split my crafting between two characters. One for blacksmith/clothing/woodworking, and the other one for enchanting/alchemy/provisioning. One got all the new motifs first, the other got all the new recipes first. Didn't really matter much until the master writs started and vouchers were character bound. I wanted the Ebony motif, 300 vouchers. The only character that it made sense to get that for was the smith/clothier/woodworker. Any masterwrit the provisioner got was a right pain because it usually was for something she could make, but my smith couldn't. Took two weeks and 24k to find the Orcrest Agony Pale Ale recipe.... Then they decided to make vouchers account-wide, so that wasn't an issue anymore and I got the motif a lot faster. I won't ever get a full set of motifs for the second crafter. Chances are good thanks to rng I won't ever get a full set of recipes for the main smith. I don't think I'll ever get that much gold together to buy everything a second time.

This is just one of the many aspects of this game that are completely unwarranted. There is no real good reason why motif's learned are not account wide. But, ZOS in it's ultimate wisdom thinks differently. Also requesting that motif learning be account wide has been going on for years to the deaf ears of ZOS.

I just hate the fact - my library achievments are merged with motifs. My main character will never finish the line - he don't craft, so he will never 'read' motif books. Let us transfer motifs to other characters or move them from 'library' achievments to craft section.
