Where have all the children gone? Dueling in the streets and how to change.

Grimm13

The citizens of Tamriel seem to have either sent their children away into hiding or they have begone a tragedy. We have evidence of a empty crib in Wrothgar and children's toys can be found. What could have caused such a thing to have happened? What measures would they take to remedy the situation to safely return their children in Tamriel?

The streets are not safe with open dueling. The citizens would be much relieved to see it banned as a criminal offense within the cities. As a compromise a safe duel arena and fair grounds could be erected to accommodate the weapon and spell slinging ruffians need to prove themselves legally.

Okay, having a bit of fun but the game is missing children as NPC's. Also the dueling grounds would be a good way to handle how this era of society would view dueling. Historically dueling did become banned do to the dangers and loss of so many lives.

A number of features could be added to encourage the use of the area. Reduced item deterioration. NPC medics that run over and offer a rez to losers. A shady NPC that allows the duelist to place a wager purse on the duel, winner getting the proceeds with a cut taken of course.

The duelist get a little something, flavor is added to the cities and the rest of us get some peace in the rest of the cities.

That was a twisted plot by one Altmer scientist utilizing the Mnemic Egg. I recall how I frantically killed AD soldiers to save eggs - on my AD chars.

    You mean, like Hammerdeath arena?
Indeed, there is a place made for duelling only in Stormhaven...

Of course, there could be more. It would be entirely plausible to for example open the Cradlecrush arena in Eastmarch and the Thizzrini arena in Reapers March for duelling after players completed the quests assiciated with those places...

And I think it would make a lot of sense if the justice guard reacted to anyone involved in a duel for "disturbing the peace"...

That too are neat ideas! Especially adding a "place your bets" delay to all duels in the arena and a NPC bystanders can place wagers with... and then give the winner some gold reward, and the looser... a free healing potion? So everyone gets something?

I've actually been wondering, myself, if the lack of children or plots surrounding children (bar the child ghost quest in one of the AD zones) is an attempt to keep the rating down? I know it's already Rated M, but would children and the dangerous setting call in an 18+?

BtW, when I got the game in 2014, it was still rated "16" here, the rating only got bumped up with the justice system... which explains why it seldom seems to make the most of that "M" rating...

There were so many filled soul gems from the plane meld crisis that the citizens of Tamriel have become practically immortal. Until we run out of soul gems, children are redundant.

In a world where you just resurrect if you die, who needs children? :p

I'd love to see some. I've played games where children played in the streets etc, I believe GW2 is one, if memory serves me. So, why ZoS doesn't add any just makes me think they don't think it appropriate or necessary.

I guess the M17 rating means no NPC's under age of 17.

My point about the children is actually the side post. I didn't want a yet another dueling post so I took a different approach. Saw that it was strange for having the missing npc's you logically would see and related the two. Interesting to see all the hypothesizes though.

I think it would be easy to add the dueling grounds to all the major cities in the various zones. as pointed out some have a few available already. I myself am not a duelist. I don't see why we could not add an element for those that enjoy it while adding to the criminal justice system.

    ^^^^This.

Have a bad enough time with Bosmer. They would have not done kids well & I would probably not be playing the game.

If it bothers you so much then just pretend they have all been sent away somewhere safe until the daedric crises go away. Like Evacuees in the UK during WW2.

They cost 150 gold per piece. When you want to donate some gold to poor beggars, the game only allows you to donate something like 5 gold. A certain npc attempted to convince me my donation of 5 gold would feed him and his family for a week. I don't know how that is going to work out. He probably sold his childs.
