new Chests in houses looks bugged

This morning I found the both my chests empty, it is nice and fast way to delete batch of legendary items from trials, thanks ZOS)
I gues there is no way to return this items, according the support page, so if you want to clean you inventory just purchase this chests.

Hope any ZOS responsible will confirm it before we waste a lot of time and gold struggling for the chests. Not speaking about crowns.

If you deleted a character after placing items in the new chests, you may want to contact ZOS to have the character reinstated. Character deletion causes the items to vanish.

There is a mod that shows the items are still there even tho you cant see them. Dunno which mod, just saw some one post that their mod showed the items are still in the chest to which I told them to get a screenshot

Same thing happened to me as well. Contact ZOS support and they will restore your deleted character and you should receive your items back. The items are not gone, you just basically can't access them and can't see them. I could see them with Inventory Insight mod. But anyways, got my items back after contacting support.
