Different queue times for different classes? (Read it all before you reply)

So I've got two characters at about the same level(late teens). One is a magicka Templar, the other is a Stam DK(lvl 18).

I haven't been able to run a dungeon with my DK. I get tired of waiting in queue. They've lasted over an hour. I've tried at different times of day. So I started leveling my Magplar, when I got her to 12, I started queueing for dungeons, assuming it would take a while like my DK. Nope, less than 5 minutes. I queued as Healer and DPS, though, so I just chalked it up to that. But out of curiosity I tried queueing as only DPS, this was at level 15. Still less than 5 minute queue time.

I switched to my lvl 50 Stamplar and queued. Less than 5 minutes again. Then I switched back to the DK immediately after that dungeon... over 50 minutes wait time. So I gave up and switched back to the Magplar and queued. Less than 5 minutes again.

None of these characters is a healer or a tank. What gives? Are DKs being forced to wait longer for some reason?

The dungeon finder has been bugged since the Homestead update One Year Ago . It has the tendency to put the player in what I like to call "phantom queues." These phantom queues will make it seem like you are queued for the dungeon but it will never actually proc a ready check. I could sit on in a queue for 30 minutes with one character, then exit the queue and restart it on the same character, and get a ready check in a couple minutes. If I had to guess, you just got unlucky with the phantom queues on one character. I've never noticed this bug to affect different classes in different ways but who knows with this game...

It's more about role than class. Obviously, if you (are capable) dual role, you increase your odds.

It also has a lot to do with the pledges of the day, etc. Often your 'random' will end up filling a spot in a currently ongoing dungeon. If that's one of the longer or more difficult ones, queues either pop faster (because people get kicked or bail) or slower (because it takes longer to complete.)

Also bear in mind there are spurts in activity, too. If many people are running randoms, it will obviously take less time then when fewer people are, or if they are doing something else.

If you get stuck in queue for more than about 5-10 minutes, leave and requeue. if will force a fresh search for you. You can also queue and just go about doing what you were doing before & it will pop when it pops (usually right before you're ready to quest turn in on that instanced 5 mile-long-walk map.)

    Good luck.

Are you a Tank or DPS? DPS takes a bit to find a spot in the queue while Tank and Healer are almost instant. The longest I have ever spent in queue with my Tank was about a minute and that was for White Gold Tower, where almost no one goes.
On my DPS Mage, 10-15 minutes usually before I just give up.

It’s a need basis not a class filter of who is in the queue when you are in the queue.

    Here is what applies

    -Dungeon selection (random or specific)
    -Role selected (DPS/Healer/Tank)
    -normal / veteran

Not in that order, honestly not sure about what filter or levels apply first but this is what matters.

I answered that in the OP.

Sorry if we assumed wrong but your OP doesn’t make sense if that’s not what you’re asking.

Your question is why the DK or other classes are in queue longer. The reality is your class has no bearing on the queue at all

Its more likely that you've been put in a phantom queue. Ive experienced this on a magwarden healer and a magdk tank where I'm waiting for five minutes (unusual for those roles), leave queue, requeue, and have the queue pop in a few seconds. Is it possible that there was a new group right then? Sure. But I've seen it happen enough that I always rejoin queue as a healer or tank if I'm waiting for 5 or more minutes.

que is instant if you que as a tank.

Unfortunately, it appears to have some bearing.

If I can queue for a dungeon as a lvl 18 DPS Templar, and get a dungeon in less than 5 minutes. But if I queue as a lvl 18 DPS DK, and it takes over an hour, something is weird.

BOTH are DPS. BOTH are even in the same faction.

I can log in right now, queue as my Templar, and get a dungeon in a few minutes.
However if I were to log into my DK, I know for a fact that I will be waiting over an hour.

There is a bug you are experiencing with that character then. For the entire HOTR patch I had one character that couldn't use the dungeon finder at all without crashing to the dashboard. Was only affecting one character and after conversing in direct message with a ZoS employee here and a support ticket conversation, it was determined they could do nothing for me. I was able to use the dungeon finder again on that character when the CwC patch dropped. I realize this doesn't do much for you but its entirely possible that they did something in the last patch that screwed specifically with your one character as it has happened to me before.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

If you want to claim there's a game-wide issue where Templars are getting selected as DPS before DKs, we're going to need a little more than one person with that problem.

We're going to need other people testing that out. You're going to need to test it more than just a couple of times.

Otherwise, its far more likely that its a problem happening to one of your characters when you queue.

The best advice I can give is to try exiting queue and reentering queue if you reach a point where you feel your other charactera would have gotten in by now.

OP, stop being so snarky and you'll get better results.

As stated, the phantom queue is a thing that affects people sometime.

Unless your queuing for a Specific Dungeon(s), never wait more than 5 minutes for the Random Dungeon Finder if you in the game during prime hours (8 AM to 10PM local time). Leave the queue, and re-queue. That gets me in quicker most of the time. Yes, it sometimes takes longer the second time around, but more often than not, it gets me in.

    Note, this is PC/NA

That's an excellent way to collect and aggregate data and anecdotes, yep.

Please don't do this unless you have a taunt, and can survive keeping bosses in place for your party to kill efficiently.
