Housing Decisions

Though I am not new to the game, I still haven't purchased a house yet. Mostly because I haven't found 'the one'. There are pros and cons to a lot and I'm pretty conflicted about which I should get. Imperial style in terms of actual house design is my favorite, followed by Breton and then Nord but that still leaves me with a lot of choices, none being perfectly ideal.

• Strident Springs Demesne - probably my favorite layout of the bunch. Actual rooms! It has a lot of decorating potential and the waterfall on the property is really lovely. However, I'm not the biggest fan of the arid environment. Would prefer something greener, more lush. Otherwise, it's probably my favorite. Some of my favorite locations in game are the Northpoint/Fells Run, The Rift, and the lusher parts of Craglorn. Strident Springs exterior has a completely different vibe.
• Domus Phrasticus - This will likely end up being my first house. I like the area and the green courtyard, though the interior is a bit smaller. Could be adjusted if a nook was added (similar to the enchanter in kvatch)
• Hakkvild's High Hall - The grounds of this home and the view of Falkreath Hold is absolutely stunning. However, the interior space is a joke. For almost 4mil, there should be legitimate rooms, the second story of the main room should be accessible, etc.
• Ravenhurst - Another small one and the one I had originally planned on being my first home. The grounds are so small though and the advertised view from the collections menu (the lovely view of the windmill from the corner of the yard) is not actually how it looks in game since the windmill appears to be further to the left and hides behind the building so you can barely see it.
• Cyrodilic Jungle House - It's so tiny, but man, the one thing I LOVE about this place compared to all the others is that the fence does NOT obstruct the view. Please more like this, ZoS. I beg you.

I'd love to be able to set different houses for different characters somehow as I'd (eventually) like each of my characters to have their own space. Even better would be the option to allow people to visit more than just primary residences.

I bet i looked at every home 5 or 6 times for a period of a week before deciding on my first home. Domus was in the top 5 of homes i considered. I dont care much about "convenience" in relation to cities and such. I finally went with Mournoth Keep. the outside is huge and i wanted a good size outdoor area to play with. The main floor is U shaped which does give some separation. That made my first decorating challenge easier. The second floor is kind of small but i came up with ideas for it fairly easily.

Its got a decent view. Their is a wayshrine a few seconds out of the door as well as a dolmen. Domus would of been my second choice i think.

Hakkvild's High Hall- I was looking at that. I like the idea and the view. But the design is terrible. A lot of wasted/dysfunctional space with a beautiful view. I was quite disappointed about how uninspiring it was to set up. I was expecting a hall similar to skyrim, like maybe the whiterun hall or a more grand version of the fighters guild in skyrim. That would of been good. A big circular room with no function and a lot of useless outdoor space didnt not excite me.

I found previewing homes furnished helped me decide. So you can kind of get an idea of floor plan size to furniture size.

I own both Strident Springs and Domus Phrasticus. My only complaint about them in that they are very dark. On Strident Springs, my most recent acquisition, I used the Clockwork City lights and those worked splendidly. Finally, there are lights that can light up an entire room with only one furnishing used.

So if you like well-lit houses, I recommend using the Clockwork City lights for Domus Phrasticus or Strident Springs, or else be prepared to use a lot of light fixtures.

Mournoth has turned out to be a very good house, and the 2nd story wraparound deck gives you the good view along with the security of a stone wall. I put a plank catwalk along my main wall, with a very nice view of the shipwreck and dolmen.

Hi! Strident Springs really is fabulous and the dryness can be overcome. I used a lot of mossy trees and other vegetation to create a bit of a southern gothic vibe. Hit me up in game if you want to have a look: @Syene (PC)

Which server do you play on? I'd love to have a look, thank you for the offer! I've not toured too many houses so I've not really seen all the ways vegetation can be used so that would probably be great to see.
