From what I can gather, it's because lightning staves are king at the moment and just as much damage comes from non-fire skills as it does from fire. There's probably other factors too though.

There is an argument between BSW and Silks of the sun.

I know that solo on a dummy Silks does more damage (on my fire fire build) but others have suggested that BSW is better in groups because synergies are not all fire damage for example. Also you can trigger BSW and swap so you can use a monster set (Grothdar/Skoria) + maelstrom.

But yeah the other reason is people needing to use lightning staff to proc Off balance so they can Power lash and not just run out of mana. I choose instead to just heavy attack in my rotation.

Tried it and the results were very disappointing, but Julianos and mother’s sorrow, now that will chew up bosses a treat, with seven light and a bit of tinkering you can clear 70% crit, and crit ignores the bosses resistances, as long as the tank keeps taunt up I can flambé any boss in the game. Bit of advice though, don’t get cocky because without it’s sheild this thing dies if the boss so much as sneezes in my direction

Never heard that bit about crits ignoring resistances before. Do you have a source on that?

Deltia mentions it in early videos, just turn on damage numbers in game menu to list the targets health, compare its decline to you crit numbers, you’ll find they are identicle, hence why pve stacks crit to the rafters but over 70% you have to give up so much to add more crit that it stops making sense. Remember that crit damage is magnifying base damage so you need plenty of both for the realy beefy numbers

from what I hear and alcasts recent build he is using two infernos now because of changes to off balance. so I guess if I am doing content on my own siks is goods.

I am still working on getting 6 traits for all my light gear for crafting. focusing on medium armor first.

Of course mob health loss is going to be identical to your damage numbers, for crits and non crits alike, the damage numbers that pop up when you attack an enemy are the actual damage dealt after resistances are taken into account.
