I've never seen pure dps magplars. Are they a thing for cyrodiil?

Depends on the amount of DPS you are hoping to do. Above 30k, not possible. Unless you're taking it out on the Cyrodiil wolves

Magplars are hurting very bad for DPS in cryodiil. You can play a very tanky magplar but you will never be able to do it as well as DK, NB or sorc. You can spec pure DPS but again you will never be able to achieve the DPS of the other 3 and you will be very very easy to kill while most of your damage is mitigated by the other three's build. You can spec pure healer but the other 3 classes really don't need you as they have abilities that heal them well enough with out you but they will keep you in the group if you are the only pure healer.

Save your self the pain and just play one of the others.

Templars are capable of achieving some of the best burst damage in the game (the Purifying Light + Unstable Core/Total Dark combo, with DOTs ticking and an ult thrown in). The problem is that it's difficult to set up, only works on players who don't know game mechanics or are playing sloppily, and doesn't scale well in outnumbered situations.

So while it can be done, it really needs group support.

I've experimented with pure DPS builds on my Magplar in PvP, and from my experience, they just don't work; they are way too squishy...

Especially since Magplars lack mobility, and if you are already squishy as hell, Elusive Mist will only prolong your execution temporarily...

It's really about that sweet pirate skeleton + light armor + DMG enchants setup. That plus stacking that beautiful 83% crit DMG with 45% crit chance with backbar ele drain. If you hit around 1400-1500 Regen, channeled focus and ele drain covers the rest comfortably. Which let's you add as much utility/defense you need (want to punish players for attacking? Slot wizard. Want to protect your allies? Slot transmutation. Want mobilty? Smugglers. Need passive offense to help switch away from defense? Slot overwhelming surge.)

They do need a lot of help; the design intent doesn't match their execution as a class at all.

You can absolutely have a dd magplar. Depends on the player but magplars can easily put up the most damage, people just focus on their lack of easy burst damage. Although their sustained damage can be insane, especially since most of your damage is aoe.

Not the greatest stats but it’s to give a general idea of how much damage you can actually dish out and this isn’t even peak damage. Although this isn’t open world, I find it much easier to run glass in open world since the quality of players isn’t that great. Plus most people and Templars run in groups so it’s easier to pull off dd magplar.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I guess my problem is I play solo too often and magplar isn't made for that.

You can build for damage, but a lot of templars skills are avoidable and the class has zero mobility and zero ways of preventing damage. So that approach might work Vs. potatoes, however you'll probably run into issues Vs. experienced players.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

I was using spinners/ axiom ( back barred trans for the regen) the past few days bc a buddy wanted to try my set up. I love it in 2-4 man groups. Except when lags bad and you can't hit with sweeps. But that's any magplar build with sweeps.

It depends on what type of gameplay experience your want...I have a build on an argonian gankplar that has a 25k dark flare tooltip and can 2 shot enemies, but if you get caught rip.

    Vma resto Masters lightning
    2 skoria

Basically an updated version of @DeHei psychoplar although the vma destro version is still usable, albeit weaker after the maelstrom destro nerf

Pure glass Templar is one of the hardest styles to play since you’re squishy but very rewarding once you learn your strengths and weaknesses. It’s always been tricky honestly, although players have been running glass for awhile like since blabafat was a Templar. Even solo it simply comes down to the player and picking your fights properly.

I think the nerf to proxy, shards and sweeps hit glass Templars the most because before you’d hug tight spots and blow people up. The problem with this meta isn’t actually being glass is more so everyone is running tanky setups and you have to fight multiple of them. So you get into battles of attrition.

You don’t actually have to go glass to be built for damage, my argonian and old Breton magplar do damage but are noticeably tankier than my high elf but that’s because snb. In this state of the game you don’t have to run damage sets to actually do good damage either. Only my high elf has on a damage set.

But I agree with Joy, you’ll have more trouble with competent players (which isn’t new) but I feel that’s mainly if you run glass DD.
