The problem is it''s a joke, no one takes the Justice system seriously, it's just farming to them where they kinda get chased lamely and all they have to do is go to the Outlaw hideout, sell their goodies and go offline. No one really even tries that hard not to get caught.

It should be something you work towards getting better at, since the rewards is not high per say but they're obviously not chump change and useless motifs and recipes. If they were useless no one would bother anyway.

If the rewards must be buffed so be it

If you have multiple characters, and rack up a large bounty on some trespassing quest, just log out to another character for a while and then come back. All is forgotten. Seems like an exploit to me, but I know it is intended.

I agree, it's pretty lame TBH, why even bother putting in the justice system? They may as well just let them roam free, no consequences.

The Justice system is supposed to be a part of playing the game, not a deterrent to playing the game.
If I rack up a large bounty I can address it by:
    • Using a bunch of counterfeit pardons that I earned by playing the game.
    • Paying off the guards with the gold I earned by gaming the game.
    • Taking a break and hiding behind a bush or going somewhere with no guards while I wait for my bounty to decay, the rate of which is faster depending on my rank, earned by playing the game.
    • Swapping to another character while I wait for my bounty to decay, the rate of which is faster depending on my rank, earned by playing the game.
    • Logging off and taking a break while I wait for my bounty to decay, the rate of which is faster depending on my rank, earned by playing the game.

All of those are viable options. The reason bounties decay faster on logging out is because ZOS doesn't actually want you to log in the next day and be like "Shoot, I've got a huge bounty still and can't go into towns like I wanted to, I guess I'm not going to bother playing."

I mean, I can't imagine why someone would want to rack up that huge of a bounty except for bragging rights, but I have no problem with them doing so, logging out long enough for the bounty to dissipate, and then continuing to play. We all bought the game, why shouldn't they be able to play? The Justice system is not actually designed to deprive players of the ability to fully play their characters or force them to avoid cities for a long period of time because that would be annoying. It does provide relatively minor time deterrents for people with reasonable bounties. Bounties in the half-a-million range are outliers anyway and you don't rebalance a whole system that works pretty well based on rare outliers.

All but the final one is fine and half a million bounties is NOT rare, I see it bragged about a lot.
The fact you listed so many ways to decrease your bounty proves my point that the only one not involved with playing the game should be removed. This will encourage people to be more careful and collect pardons more.

The system works beautifully. It's both punishing and forgiving to players in good measure. You are punished - you have to either pay it off, or not play that character for a while. It is forgiving - your problem slowly goes away as you exercise patience. You walk away, cool off, think about what you've done. That's your penance.

It's one of the design decisions in this game that most impressed me, to be honest.

Yeah and WHO thinks about 'what they've done'? No they just come back and do it all over again, it's religiously used and there are no consequences. Just time it to go on a crime spree before you go to bed and it all goes away in the morning, no skin off your nose. There's nothing to think about, it's free stuff, it stops literally no one from repeating the offense.

I'm not blaming the players, I'm blaming the system that is allowing this.

What I don't get is why every guard I pass seems to know that I was the Savior of Morrowind and even rescued a cat trapped in a cave yet they forget who I am a few minutes after committing any crime.

So either the statute of limitations is only three minutes or my world famous character that everyone seems to recognize is banned from receiving the only title he truly wants -- "Criminal".

This statement from the OP is inaccurate on multiple levels.

Besides the fact that it is an obviously and clearly incorrect to state that no one ever takes the bounty/justice system seriously being false it is also mathematically incorrect to state that someone with a 400k bounty can just step away from the game overnight and all that bounty goes away.

A great many take the bounty system seriously. I see them sneaking around to open a lockbox or pick a pocket. The forums have seen threads about bounties taking to long to drop or that they do not like having to deal with the guards.

As for the 400k bounty, mathematically speaking, without passives a 400k bounty takes 12 days of offline time to disappear. It takes about 37 days online for the bounty to disappear. Yes, there is a deterrent to playing a character with a bounty.

    Either way, it takes days.

With the passives from Theives Guild the character would need to be offline for days as it would reduce the bounty by 55k per 24 hour time period if my math is correct at bounty reduction rate of 115 gold/3 minutes.

It really helps to get information correct instead of tainting a poll with false information to begin with.

So just ignore the rest? Okay, I see where you lie.

Cherry pickers are fricken annoying BTW. My point remains, you literally do nothing to get your bounty to decrease the fastest.
And if people took it seriously, why can you see numerous people getting chased by the law daily? Or people who teach others to just igore the system, grab what you want and log off/play a different toon?

If they forced players to stay online to clear bounties, we'd just have people parking characters in some safe spot and going afk (with a mouse macro or add-on or rubber band) while logged into the game.

If they made any changes, I'd rather see more in-game ways to clear a bounty (like have NPCs in zones that request help in exchange for putting in a good word and reducing bounty).

I'd also like to see less auto guard action for stupid crap like having the game decide at the last millisecond I was really trying to steal an apple instead of talk to the NPC in the middle of town (and just give me a unique key bind for stealing already).

When this was first introduced some people racked up bounties in the millions like 20million and 50 million. The gamblers hideout that is in another thread was the scene for that. Now after everything is said and done in a few months those guys can probably play those old characters bounty free.

    It's fine as it is

there was the talk of a more in-depth justice system but I do not remember what came of it.Open world flag would have been really cool. It would have added depth to the skills and consequences for not getting to a fence and settling up.
You are all on a treadmill. While you happily invested more and more points into damage and sustain. ZOS was busy nerfing Helping Hands passive from DK, Leeching strikes passive from nightblade, dark deal from sorc. Making class abilities more homogenized and less unique, all to pay for the power gained by the champion system.

It is the entire bases for the rest of your comment.

You can ignore it, but it what I stated take the foundation of your argument and shows it for the falsehood it is. Again, it helps to get the information correct, otherwise you taint the entire process into meaningless garble.

Further, the poll show that enough see through this incorrect information.

Don't make up crap while accusing me of making up crap, hypocrite much? You don't know the feelings of the voters, they all may have entirely different reasons then your own.

You also assume that's my only argument, which is not. You can ignore my points if you want, but your attempt to discredit them is petty.

As I will repeat, MY point remains the same, the bounty goes down when you're not even playing the game or thinking about it, regardless of how long it takes it's still silly.

    Yes I agree
Yeah the justice system is a joke. If people are getting +100,000 gold bounties I should be able to hunt them for a small gold reward. They are obviously harming tamriel on a massive scale and shouldnt be allowed to run rampant and then log off to log back on a few hours later and do it all again. Its brainless bland gameplay that only rewards the abuser and encourages people to commit crime on a wide scale. Not to mention its a little excessive to be able to murder farm entire towns.. what kind of image does that give to other players playing the game..

You cant tell me it wouldnt be cool to see some jackass murdering farming some town get absolutely rekt by a nightblade looking to claim the bounty. That would be sweet and add some much neede spice to such a bland system.

Seems the OP has anger issues or likes to insult everyone who has the audacity to disagree with him/her. This is coming from someone who actually comes down on his side of the argument.

Why are you telling people how to play the game? After all how is this effecting you? Is someone who takes it serious effecting your game play? Is someone not taking it serious as you claim, and without proof to boot, is it making the game harder for you and you keep dying all the time because of it?

This is a game play mechanic that DOESN'T EFFECT YOU at ALL and yet you are complaining.

Let people play how they want especially when it doesn't EFFECT OTHERS. So if this is how the person has fun so be it. If it's not fun for you, DON'T DO IT. BUT DON'T you DARE tell other people how to play their game when it's SINGLE PLAYER aspect of the game.

Ohhoooh I have been dared for my opinion over the internet, can you hear me shivering in my slippers?

I'm upset by the way they're disagreeing, they can't just say they like it the way it is, they have to act like I murdered their puppy.
