Anyone tried out the new Nvidia Freestyle game filter on ESO?

Nvidia just released a new feature called Freestyle Game Filter: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2018/01/07/geforce-experience-freestyle-ansel-ces-2018/

It is similar in a way to Reshade (and the Reshade developer is working with Nvidia on this), but requires no special files and can be tweaked on the fly with a fairly easy UI. I was pleasantly surprised to find that ESO is one of the games supported with its beta launch.

Has anyone tried it, and if so, do you have any settings you found very good that you would like to share? So far I have experimented with sharpening the image and adjusting color. I noticed it even has a filter to assist those that are color blind.

Please share any good settings you have found.

Tried to use it.. said that game wasn't supported. Maybe it will work in the future.

Not compatible. Neither is the advanced camera settings.

Odd, it works for me. Did you opt in for the beta GeForce Experience? And did you update to the latest driver?

It does work here's short video, unfortunately can't record Freestyle overlay with shadowplay but you can watch how some filters work, looks good tbh.

Yep, downloaded the Geforce Experience update once the box was checked and rebooted (just in case). Everytime I hit Alt-F2 or Alt-F3, I get the slideout notification in the upper right that game is not supported.

SpecialFX
-Color enhancer: 20%

Details
-Clarity: 60%
-HDR Toning: 35%

Contrast
-Gamma: 65%

Nothing too extreme, just a bit of a subtle HDR effect and a slightly warmer color.

Works for me. Make sure you have 390.65 driver update and 3.12.X geforce experience update and the beta thing ticked

Hmmm.. yesterday didn't work for me.. today it does. Clarity made a MAJOR difference! Will play around some more.

I haven’t heard of it. I use reshader. Sure you add some files but the installer automatically extracts the files to the client folder for you. Very simple honestly. Then pick a preset (I use UBER) and youre done. It’s looks amazing and just pressing shift+F2 opens the menu in game and I can change profiles on the fly plus tweak and mod ALL the effects to my liking. I can’t see any reason to use anything else. Plus it’s for the 64 bit version, which is great as the 32 bit client is going away.

On a side note; I hope that the ocean is given Waves and Ocean effects instead of looking like still water.
Much of the vanilla zones could use updates to make them on par with DLC quality.

Overall I want ESO to look more into mood and atmosphere of Elder Scroll games. We have seen they are capable of doing some of that in the Falkreath DLC. Actually felt like Falkreath from Skyrim.

I maxed out the slider on purpose. You can make it less intense.

Hmm, verified those were the driver versions I had. Re-installed my video driver and now it works. Definitely going to have to play with the filters...WAY too many options!!!

I just updated my drivers and GeForce experience and tried it out. It was pretty neat. A good amount of customization and it didn't seem to affect FPS at all (unlike ReShade did to em). Unfortunately, I had to completely disable the Nvidia overlay entirely. Apparently it is causing controller issues. It wouldn't allow me to run in a straight line forward. It would turn to the left or right after a few yards. Disabled the overlay and the controller works fine again.

This feature definitely seems interesting. I've only started playing around with it.

I guess this could be a go-too thread for presets if people are willing to share cool stuff they came up with.

yes it is but setting it up can be a bit tedious. You need the latest version of nVidia Experience and check beta updates or whatever is it called under general settings. then it should work in ESO (and other supported games). You can access it by pressing ALT+F3 or simply ALT+Z and access it from the left menu.

There's a great DoF setting included but sadly it's useless in ESO since it simply blurs everything. I need to play around with it more, maybe there's a way to set a static background DoF.

I never really like DoF in any game except for pretty screenshots.

In real life DoF is present due to you focussing on objects near and far, but in games your eyes watching the screen bounce all over the place regardless of where the cursor is focussing so you end up directly watching the blurry parts all the time, something that doesn't happen naturally in real life.

Hey all,

Been trying out the 'Freestyle Game Filter' today. I have to report that it has been 'hitty missy' for me. Sometimes the filter works and other times it does not! When it does not TESO 'crashes' to or hangs up on a black screen.

I'm typing this as I do a new install (clean) of the Nvidia driver.

If you try to update driver without selecting the 'Enable ...' setting then turn on the setting, it is likely that the filter will not work. To get it to work, tick the 'Enable ...' setting then do a clean install. For me, doing this the driver re-downloaded and the filters became available.

Another thing to note is that with the filter enabled it seems best to play the game from GForce Experience (kind of makes sense) and the game has been taking longer to start with filter enabled - up to a couple of minutes! (sans black screen 'crash').

I'm working on a video to show how to set up the driver / filter to work and show the filter in action in game and will post a link to the video if I get the filter working again - as I wrote, the filter is 'hitty missy' for me just now.


I hope to update via this thread within 24 hours of this post - all being well.

Dunno, I didn't experience any problems you mentioned. Though I only use a few effects (a subtle saturation and bloom boost).

Since this is only an overlay basicly it won't properly work in all games or at least will look weird in some games. Like I said before, the DoF setting seems useless in ESO but might come in handy in some other games, dunno. This is not the same as ENB is for Skyrim for instance, it's not specificaly tailored for ESO or any game really. It just adds a few cool effects.


Also, to anyone wondering if it runs on older cards, I'm using it on GTX 970 and it works fine.
