I do sincerely love the fact that zanimax has finally fixed the puncturing sweeps and radiant oppression issues involving the magicka templar, but nevertheless it hurts to know that no matter the fix that was applied to templar damage dealers they won't have a place inside raid groups. Other classes dish out more damage and it kinda hurts to accept that truth. After being a Magplar Damage dealers for such a long time, I've decided to finally break through and accept all this as fact. Magicka Nightblade main here I come.

What are your thoughts on the current position for a PVE magicka templar damage dealer?

Well if it makes you feel any better right now on the PTS MagTemp is still having what seems to be very real issues with these ‘fixes’....Wait that wouldn’t make you feel any better...my bad.

Well there is always update 18! Better?

Well in all honesty it's just a good reason for me to work on a 2nd main from my existing 7 toons as is. So yes feeling pretty good

I typically waffle between both stam and mag versions of temp and nb so as long as they don’t blow them up all at once I’m not to grumpy. (Unless someone mentions the groupfinder). But it is frustrating all the same when skills on your character don’t work right, and the only answer you have is, wait a couple months.

I can at least stomach it for balance. That takes time. But broken skills? They aren’t working right! fix them!

Broken skills are a huge issue for the templar but even if they do find a way to fix the issue. A templar can never amount to a Magsorc or magblade dps. Its sad

Depends on your group comp and goals of your raid...I'm sure in a not so try hard trial run no one will care as long as you do pull decent numbers on a magplar. From my own experience stamblade pulls higher numbers, especially war machine stamblade. hard to compare the 2. In the end of it all it's all up to you of course.

Are we talking PvE DPS I'm assuming? In that I agree. The strength of templar really has come down to extended ritual. That does not help you in any PvE role outside of healing. I'm not sure really what else they can be good for.

Its a problem I have been chewing on recently as I want to prune my focus down to one main and at first I was thinking my magplar because they are well rounded but do not excel at much other than healing; and I find that frustrating from a PvE standpoint after a couple of dungeons of DPS standing in red. I also think I prefer more mobility and misting around doesn't really cut it.

Eh, I have no trouble pulling "enough" DPS in content. If you're going for competitive leaderboard DPS, the problem is there, but you can still do 99% of the games' content with no trouble.

That's not to say the problem doesn't need fixed, but I think it's a little silly to act like magplars have no place dealing damage. I've posted 40k+ single-target in certain 4-man fights. Always 25k+, and usually 30k+. That's plenty for most situations, and in fact, it's far more than your average pug will do.

They have not fixed a thing on PTS! Sweeps is doing even less damage. If they reverted the Morrowind calculations on sweeps you could easily get 50K ST on Melee magplar!

They are not remotely fixed. Working worse than ever, you missed some videos and posts.

Despite being fixed or not. It just won't be enough to make them raid viable. Yes you may be able to raid with one, but when it comes down to brass tax it's all about what your class brings to the group comp

If they fix the skills magplar is going to be the second after nb, magsorc rip, magdk rip and magden was never good.

i agree, even with buffs/fixes, i dont believe melee magplars will have a spot on hardcore trials teams. unless they are outparsing stam dks and stamplars, they are not gonna be considered for melee.

even range magplars have to compete with sorcs and magblades who already parse really high.

The new healer set is favoring templars and nightblades, and since you would bring magsorcs to keep the off balance uptime higher that would not be the case anymore leaving them on a solid 3rd spot in mag dps.

When the skills worked properly I had no problem outdpsing both Stamplar or even DKs in Melee...

I disagree that there is no place for a magplar in raids. They are a little behind other Magicka classes but not enough to make them totally unfeasable. Usually I'm able to compensate the difference by better movement and less downtime making me pull ahead of other magicka colleagues.

Wrobel actually plays a templar healer when doing PvE quite frequently.

Although I would like magplar to be stronger, I currently reach about 36k single target dps on a dummy parse with only self buffs. Strangely, I can only reach 34k on my stamDK and just over 30k on my (very new) magblade. I feel I must be doing something wrong on my other characters. But even so, my magplar is my strongest pve toon by far.

The problem seems to be they're melee and stam is doing so much dps so why bring them?

If you ask like that, you shouldn't. But if there is a free spot, or your stam dies all the time, then you might as well bring one.

Now there are few cheeses in the parse shown but overall it shows a ranged magplar can still do good DPS. Their DPS capabilities are higher I believe with a melee build (i.e sweeps) but then whats the point? Nobody wants a magplar over another stamDK.

Personally I'm levelling my magplar right now because it looks like its more up my alley. Unless you're trying to top vet leaderboards just play whatever is the most fun for you, I guarantee if you can pull a 35k+ dps parse you're not hampering your group at all.

Why not bring one though if the target of the group is simply completion?
