I missed the live stream video but was curious....

can I only change the look of the type of gear I am wearing? like say I have heavy chest can I only change it's look to that of another heavy chest or can I use any look of any motif I know i.e. cloth or medium look?

also for weapons is it completely changing the whole item to a different look and/or color. Or, can I change just the blade part and color of it to something I like and leave the rest i.e. crossguard and pommel?
When asked what he would do for a Klondike bar. Grand Moff Tarkin said "why I would blow up Alderaan."

Nope, you are not bounded by the weight of your equipped armor whatsoever! You can wear all light because that's what your build needs while still having an Outfit that looks like all heavy for your RP needs.

We didn't get enough info about how weapon dyes work, just that it's coming. They might have shown us more details for that but they had to use a camera with like 5 pixels of resolution because of a technical difficulty. My guess is that all weapons will have unique dyeing features, much like armor and shields right now. For example, I highly doubt we'll get to change the blade color for Stalhrim Frostcaster motif, but probably can for most others, following the theme that the armor sets.

Also you can view old episodes of ESO Live at any time by visiting the associated page. Hope that helps!

FYI, the live streams are viewable on youtube if you missed it so you can always go back to watch.

To answer your question: Yes you have have a Heavy chest armor peice equipped and then use the outfit system to make it look like light armor

So weapon dying is FINALLY coming, horayy.
Probably a stupid question, but will the change from one gear to another require style mats?
Also is it permanent and does it make the gear bound?

Changing your outfit requires gold, no style mats required.

Okay, kinda important to understand, the outfit system doesn't actually change any of the gear you're using. It applies over your character like costumes do now. The difference is that the outfit system will let you select the visuals for your weapons, in addition to your armor.

So you're never actually altering a weapon. Additionally if you find a better gear down the line, that won't screw up your outfit.
