    Basicly this.

For those of us who have never played LOTRO or WoW can you explain how their systems work and what you like about it? What would make it better than the costume version you described?

I haven't played LOTRO in forever but basically their system was that you had multiple inventory slots. 1 was what you actually were wearing and like 4 or 5 full sets of cosmetic slots. You just equipped what you wanted to appear as in the cosmetic slot and then you could choose to appear as whichever of the 4 or 5 cosmetic sets you wanted. It used to be you had to wear the same armor class (light, med, etc) cosmetically as you were wearing actually. Also you used to not be able to transform weapon appearances. Those might have changed in the intervening years.

1 workaround they had back then was to disable cosmetic appearances in PVP. That way you had visual clues that your opponent was in full plate or whatever. Seemed like a logical fix. And no this system wasn't available at launch. It took a few years.

no, made that mistake with the "barbershop" :(

Wow. Until you mentioned that, I had actually forgotten that they added their "barbershop" to the game. LOL.

    there is a barbershop?? O_O

as for original topic, I refused to be hyped over something we know nothing about. until they give details of how exactly transmog will work in this game, getting hyped is a recipe for inevitable disappointment.

I liked that system immensely, you could sell or throw away the armor after dying and saving it to one of five optional costume slots, it made me want to try on new pieces of junk gear to see how it looked.

I loved the system quite a bit too. It was way better than WOW transmog later since you did not have to go do the whole armor over and over again in a city if you got a new piece of armor,. What ever you equipped on actual armor/weapon, never impacted the actual looks of the character plus you could change clothes on the fly to suit any RP situation you were going to be.

It was also great, that you could basically hide most of the stuff. Gloves, boots, shoulder.. Could also be that one could hide chest gear whn playing a male character but im not certain of this but in any case, the numerous games i played whith each having their own version, the LOTRO system felts the best. SWTOR had a quite nice system too, but it was annoying that i had to remake the modules to fit my level that actually made the armor what it needed to be for the class. Nut it had the least restrictions which is good. WOW transmog is way too restrictive. No event cklothing unless the event is on, only can use the same armor time and the level requiremets were also in place plus all the stupid achievment5s had to be done for each character to wear gear that required achievments. It was annoying, that i knew i had a full set of Troll gear to mog my gear with biut i had to be level 85 before i could actually use it. Why cant characters just look how we want them to look from level 1. We have allready earned or made the armor on some character and its only appearance after all. The more annoyinh thing was that i had to either have ridiculously expensive mount or go to city each time i had to remog a piece of gear, just something thats totally pointless.

Well, there’s still a month of PTS testing before it goes live.

In other words, there’s ample time to get what you need in-game to prepare.

Most master crafters already have most of the motifs learned and achieves cleared. So, they’re already prepared.

Yes but again, ZOS has a habit of using names that sound great and systems that are universally reviled.

And then doing nothing to change them because what hits the PTS hits live and if you dont like it find another game.

a habit sounds like something that happens more than twice, but i'm at a loss for f'rinstances. that couldn't be a "strong" statement for statement's sake. will you provide a few examples?

anyway, i see people assuming that the datamined "style stones" will be restricted to the crown store, but why? as described, they don't sound very different from the "transmutation stones" and i don't believe those are available in the crown store. i may be wrong, but i'm sure they're not cash-only, and i can't transmute fast enough.
