Why guilds must belong to an Alliance faction?

Hello,

Why, when creating a new guild, you have to select the Alliance your guild will belong to?

Why if you want to be multi-faction, if you don't have faction preference and, of course, knowing that the players that join will be from any Alliance?

Why the guild needs to have the AD, DC or EP symbol?

Is there a solid reason for this? Can't we just have a "Neutral" or "All factions" option?

Thank you.

It does not affect game play so it is not a big deal.

Back before One Tamriel, all group content was locked behind your alliance. So you could only PVE and PVP with your alliance mates.
“Kings of the land and the sky we are; proud gryphons.” Stalker stands, the epitome of pride. Naked and muscular, his wings widen and his feet dig in as if he alone holds down the earth and supports the heavens, keeping the two ever separate.”

It probably has to do with PvP and which faction the guild is allowed to claim keeps etc for.

IE: AD guilds can claim AD owned keeps

Old code, but one with no importance to the game or worth changing

It's an artifact from the old system, and also, I would expect that you would want your PVP guild to be of the alliance you're PVPing for.

I think right now all it affects is being able to claim resources in Cyrodiil; you can only claim resources for guilds that share your alliance.

But in ye olden times you could only group with people who shared your alliance, so it made more sense.

Dunno if i remember it correctly. In the old days, when there were no guildtraders, your guild could claim a keep or a resource in cyrodiil so your guildies could sell their junk on the guildvendors to ppl not in your guild.
After i went to the island of stirk and ended the war, this feature became a bit pointless tho. ;)

Before One Tamriel you could only group with members of your faction. So with trading guilds being location-based (faction zones were locked until after you completed the main quest), guilds helping to group up with players, and guilds being able to claim keeps in PVP, it made a lot of sense that guilds were locked to a particular faction.

Now that we have One Tamriel, the only part that still is impacted by alliance is that last one. If you are claiming an EP keep or resource, you have to do it in the name of an EP guild. Same for DC claiming for a DC guild and AD claiming for an AD guild. I found this out when I took my AD magsorc out to Shor to help a friend grind AP. We'd taken Fort Glademist and I was trying to see if I could claim the keep, but all my guilds were EP guilds so I couldn't claim the keep for my small friend guild even though we'd taken the keep. Oh well.

Some guilds that do PVP will PVP only for a single faction, others will allow multi-faction play. That's up to them for their own rules, but just like Cyrodiil doesn't allow faction-swapping for a single character, the guild can't faction swap to claim keeps/resources for another faction (they could disband and reform just like a player could make a new character).

So the only reason why faction matters much anymore is for PVP, and since guilds can claim keeps/resources giving players access to their guild stores through the siege merchants, the guilds still have a chosen faction.
