I was just wondering how many players play this game with y-axis inverted.
I do. And people often find it odd.
And I always say:
Pull the muscles on the back of your neck and you look up.
Pull the muscles on the front of your neck and your head drops.
Also, air plane control sticks also work like this.
You Pull up. And Push down.

I used to play default as well.
But after playing GTA San Andreas I couldn't anymore

I play with the mouse on default, as I always have. However, I can not use my xbox controller in such games unless it is inverted. For some reason, when I change from a mouse to a stick, my brain reverses itself. ✭✭✭✭✭Default(Non-Inverted)I stick with the default, and always used to curse after a friend who inverts the mouse visited and played on my other machine meaning it was all over the place when I next logged into the game on that machine.
I don't use any other form of controller these days although I recall back in my Spectrum days playing a Dambusters game in which I used a joystick as you were supposed to take off and fly to the dam, drop the bombs, fly home again and land so I thought I'd better use the correct equipment - as it happens, I found a bug in the game which meant I was able to complete the entire mission while taxiing, never even needed to take off

New games started not having inverted and no option to invert them and older gamers started skipping them and developers got wise so started adding the option back in -

Interesting.
Thing is, the "up button" is not really the "up" button. It's Forward button.
But we can attune our brains by practice.
And joysticks actually represent a more accurate, upright representation of human head and its movements.
