Desctruction Mastery vs Mother's Sorrow

So, i am lvling up my magblade, currently at lv 31cp 601, and I was wondering about my second 5p set, to accompany Juli with. Should I go for a 5p Destruction Mastery and 1 Kena or 5p Mother's Sorrow and 1 Kena?
I know there's a lot of possibilities to choose from, I can go with 5 Juli, 4 something else and 2 Skoria, or Grothdar or Ilambris or I can go with 5 Juli, 3 Moondancer, and 1 vMA+ 1 asylum staff.
The problem is that i don't have access to trial sets or vMA staff yet and I've heard that a 5+5+1 combo will give me better dps now till I get my hands on the trial gear.
Thoughts?

Are you level 31? As in not CP yet? If so it doesn't really matter what armor you have with julinanos, I would probably have 3 sudusers and whatever jewelry I could find.

But at CP level, I would use destruction mastery, it will get me you more mag, which means more harness magic. Crit is nice on a magblade, as they get an extra 10% CHD, but as long as you have 50-60% that us enough.

Yes, I am talking about CP level, right now at lvl 31 i don't even wear any sets, I can manage overland challenges just fine but when i get to lvl50 cp601, Mastery seems to me a much better overall set to use till i get my hands on the trial jewels.

I ran that exact setup on my magblade until I got my trial jewelry (Juli/Destro Mastery/Kena). The setup gives you a ton of magicka with good crit % and spell damage while running blue food. I found I needed one recovery glyph though for sustain. DPS is rotation dependent but you should be able to get good dps as well.

That's good to hear, thanks mate!! I'll probably play with blue food and Witchmother's brew and see which is better for my play style.
I am not so convinced on the idea to use recovery glyphs, I want my jewels to have spell damage, I'll use a HA every now and then when needed.

I think you do more magic damage than destruction staff though.. so perhaps war maiden?

You get max magic for having a destro slotted, this improves all your skills, not just destro skills.

Exactly. You get about 3.6k more magicka with destruction mastery versus war maiden. That's about 344 more spell damage to all skills versus WM at 400 more damage to magic damage abilities only. On a magblade, you get most of your damage from blockade and light attacks, both of which won't be buffed by war maiden.

Opinions vary, but for me I would rather have that extra 344 damage all the time instead of 400 some of the time.

I believe Mother's Sorrow outperforms Destruction Mastery, especially on nightblade (increased crit damage).

Both were comparable during my tests with a slight edge to destruction mastery. For me it came down to wanting consistent damage vs a higher chance for crit.

i run 5 Destro Mastery and 5 Juli with a kena shoulder, rocking 16k Dps with only 500 cp so not too bad

Opps I confused Destruction mastery set with Spider Cultist Cowl set.

I am constantly getting confused by the dragonstar arena sets and the fact they are bind on equip for some reason.

healers vs mending was also confusing me.

I would pair Mothers Sorrow with your Julianos until you have access to trial gear. Until you have moondancer or Infall from trials you'll have better luck going 5-5-1 than going 5-4-2 or a set-up with Willpower jewelry. I would say that Magblade is the best class to utilize mothers sorrow.

I have a strong suspicion that Mothers Sorrow + Julianos is the best possible combination for ranged magblade this patch. Minor slayer on trials sets is overrated (not really 5% increase), and I haven't been impressed with any monster helm sets on magblade.

If you end up in melee range then Master Architect beats any other set on magblade, by using soul harvest and timing an assassins will proc during the increased damage window, while major slayer is still active.

I guess I'll probably get them both and see for myself which one is better for my play style. You're absolutely right that the Mother's sorrow set is more suitable on a Nightblade, on the other hand Mastery seems to me a more balanced set.

Anyway, both sets are not difficult or expensive to get so I'll try them both and I'll definitely go for 5-5-Kena.

It is bad, not bad dps is 20k+, good dps is 25k+, very good is 30k+ and excellent is 35k+

As far as dungeons is ok, except if they are the DLC ones, there you need good dps at least
