Please let us convert unwanted collectibles from crates

Please, please, let us convert unwanted collectibles into gems. I have over 15 costumes, 10 tattoos, and 3 pets that I will never use, but had to accept into my collections. Given that I have never gotten anything "cool" or even something I wanted, out of a crate, is it so much to allow us to convert what we don't want? Even for a smaller number of gems than the "oops you have one already" amount. Please?

I would love for this to be a feature too but I don't think it's going to happen.

It goes against the entire point of the crates, to make you buy more for the item you want.

Which is what drives me the most insane. This round I paid about the same in real money as the mount I wanted would have cost if it were simply put back in the store. But got much more trash. It's obvious that if you spend money in the crown store, or have ever bought crates, your drop rates plummet, so you are forced to buy more. Those who have never bougth a crate seem to get Apex Mounts out of freebies! It makes me sick to hear so many "I didn't want anything/this thing but I got it" for every 400 gem item I have ever wanted but can't afford to trash enough crates to "buy".

I wish crown crates were more of just the seaonal items, and older repeat mounts/costumes would just be put back in the crown store. I want to support the game, but I don't like extra money being pulled out of my wallet.

Edited for spelling and grammar. It's early, only had 1 cup of coffee.

[snip] end crates and just sell individual items.

    thatlaurachick fully agree.
There are a lot of items in the last season of crates I wanted, but I didn't bother buying more than two packs (which some will say was two too many) because I am not playing games with my money.

I'm more than willing to splash out on expensive things I like and "waste" my money that way, but I object to playing games which are not in any way designed to benefit me.

Any way, I am ranting and flogging a dead horse at this point.

Turelus - well yes, we both are honestly, but this whole crates mess seems so counter productive. Players are telling ZOS how we want to **throw money at them**, and ZOS just keeps telling us no.

In the beta test, the original version of the crates, you couldn't trade anything back. The only hope you had was to get duplicates for costumes and pets if you wanted gems to buy something. Just about every single tester pointed out that after the 10 day test, buying all the crates you can buy with 5500 crowns every day we had literally hundreds of potions, poisons, and food that we were never going to use. About the only item that wasn't instantly junk was the experience scroll; that was better than the ambrosia that players could make, and that went against the promise that nothing in the crown store would be better than what players could make.

So they changed things slightly to allow the consumables to be traded for gems, and the mythic aetherial ambrosia recipe showed up. [after they did a hotfix when they finally realized that neither the cipher or the dust was actually in the loot tables to drop]. I have a feeling that is also when they realized that people were sort of circumventing the whole idea of the "buy rngesus boxes" by accumulating gems and outright buying what they wanted. If you wanted a specific apex reward, you could spend about a hundred dollars, and get enough gems to buy the specific item you wanted. That meant that you stopped buying the rngesus crates because you got what you wanted....and the super apex special mounts that can't be bought for gems showed up. Have to buy the crates if you want one of the special mounts.

@thatlaurachick You do realize, that if you get rid of the costumes/items you don't want, you could possibly get them again in the crates? And it wouldn't count as a duplicate because you got rid of the items? You kind of have to keep everything, or you'll end up getting it over and over, with no option for gems.

Besides the fact I've seen how the rng thing works for me, a large part of why I won't buy the rngesus crates is because I don't want the stuff you can't trade in or even get rid of stuck in my collections forever. If I want something, whether a costume or tattoo or a hat or a mount or a pet, I want a specific one. If I don't like it and wouldn't buy it outright, I don't want to have it end up in my collection.

I also would love this, I get lots of pets in these crates, and being a PVP player only I have no reason for them...so they just kinda build up and not get used. I would love to convert them into gems so I could put them towards mounts and costumes.

Well, if I can trade them back for even 1 gem, it's worth it to me. Not just because I want to use the gems to buy minor items (the one face tattoo I wanted that is, surprise!, the ONLY tattoo I did not get this time) but because I own a lot of costumes already, purchased outright in the Crown Store. 25% of my collections are now costumes I *hate*, like all of the Nedic and Ashlander costumes. Yes, I have mean ALL of them, and I really never will wear them. But stuck in there forever, because I "paid" for them.

@JKorr you realize that there are people, probably more than a few, that will buy enough crates for the 1 item they really want and them stop? There are at least 3 other 100 gem items I want in this season, but will not be buying more crates to trash. However, if they were just in the crown store I would buy them all.

I wasn't lucky enough to be in the intial test or I would have pointed this out then as well. If ZOS wants to use loot boxes, fine, seasonal items are cool, and I probably would buy enough to get something low value. However, I am spending a lot less now, because A - older costumes and mounts are only returning in crates, and B- furniture pattern drop rate in-game is so abysmal. I'm subbed through January, but my husband and I are debating now if we wish to keep playing at all, given that ZOS won't let us have fun playing the game.

The reason I never continued to buy crates after that first 5000 crown pack is because I could not reject that bycoket hat when it appeared.

I looked at it in the crown store before the crates came out and rejected it wholeheartedly, then was forced to accept it into my collection.

yeah I've gotten a costume or too that I'll never wear and a lot of body tattoos (which I'll also never wear because they get rid of the khajiit stripes/spots) and I would like to exchange them for any amount of gems.

but honestly my only hope is that the US recognizes the crates as gambling and ESO is forced to return to the crown store only model so this kind of thing isn't a problem

Yes, I do know that some players can stop. The ones who want one of the apex rewards but don't care which one they get might have fun trying to get one, and eventually get enough gems to buy one. The people who have to have one specific item however, they don't or can't stop.

You don't have to explain about wanting to buy items outright, either. Remember the atronach crates? The ones that had the sparkly-rocks-stuck-together-with-magical-lightning mounts? I really disliked all of them. BUT I would have happily paid 2500 or a little more for the black mane lion senche. I will never understand why they included a normal senche in the atronach themed crates. The senche mounts and pets [and cats] are, apparently, my pokemon. While I don't have to, I want to collect all of them. I did get all of them, until the black mane lion. If ZOS offered the items for outright purchase, even if they wait a number of months after the crate season is over, they'd get a lot more of money from me. But not for the rngesus crates and a chance to maybe possibly eventually get the specific item I want.

I absolutely refuse to spend money on crates. It is IMHO the single most insulting way a company can ask for money, you're gambling in a manner similar to slot machines in a casino, but for a object that has absolutely zero value. Its freaking code, selling any given item a few times pays for the labor that went into creating it and if you want 'collector's value' to be part of the allure you make it a limited time only. Most of the things are merely skins, or flat out stupid themes (seriously? a skeleton rat for a pet? That's "cool"???).

I like the game, but it's flaws are starting to pile up, from broken skills/bugs to these offensively blatant money grabs. If the items were put up individually as items you could buy that's one thing, a time honored practice of I give you money in exchange for a known and guaranteed return. Turning vanity items into gambling elements with a stupidly low chance of scoring is simply predatory business practices and I seriously wish the user base would collectively boycott that part of ESO to teach the CEO's a lesson in properly valuing your customers.

    YES please!

I'm tired of having stuff given to me from the crates that I didn't want to buy with crowns months before when it was in the store. We should be able to cash out every single thing we don't want whether we have it or not.

Not really. The return for deconning a collectible is low and inefficient.

They might not want to have to introduce removing collection items. Especially if that means people emailing them to undo a mistaken decon.

Ya know, we're not allowed to get "do over" with armor or anything else in game, even if ZOS' own mistakes makes us lose something. There's a reaons No, Thank You removes the, up to 3, messages about improving or deconstructing bound and/or locked items.

Random thought but at the very least, if we can't convert I'd love if we could trade with other items in the same rewards level. If I could trade the lipstick for something I'd actually wear I'd be a lot more okay.

That said here's a plus one for converting. It ain't gonna happen but it's always a nice thought I approve.
