So about that physical penetration

So before the recent debut of the unfathomable darkness set, the only other 2 sets to offer physical penetration that I'm aware of are Spriggans (5-piece bonus) and Kragh (monster helm 1 piece). So that begs to ask, are most dps, at least stamina, getting by on just sharpened weapons? Are 2 sharpened weapons enough? Most popular end-game builds don't include one of the 3 above sets.

Interested in getting input on physical penetration and whether it's necessary or just a wasted bonus that could be used toward dmg or crit.

Or your mentioned Spriggan instead of that set plus you forgot night mother gaze set. Sharpened weapons are alternative, but not used because of the sets and CP.

If you're talking PvE, then as a group, total debuffs should bring enemy resistance to 0

You also get physical "penetration" from: NMG, Sunderflame, major/minor fracture, crusher glyphs(infused, torugs) and CP

On my main I don't use sharpened weapons cause I put like a ton of points into physical penetration cp. I get like that 4k penetration off that.

There are other sets that gives you physical penetration.

Nigth Mother's Gaze (crafted) 5pc bonus
When you deal Critical Damage, you reduce the enemy's Physical Resistance by 2580 for 6 seconds

Sunderflame (City of Ash) 5 pc bonus:
When you deal damage with a fully-charged Heavy Attack, you deal an additional 774 Flame Damage and reduce the enemy's Physical Resitance by 3440 for 8 seconds.

Twice-Fanged Serpent (Sanctum Ophidian) 5pc bunus:
When you deal damage, your Physical Penetration is increased by 860 for 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times..

This sets are better thn Sprigans for pve.
Allies can take advantage from NMG and Sunderflame bonus, so they are better for groups with 2+ stam dd.
TFS gives you more penetration than sprigans, so its better if you are playing solo or you are the only stam dd in your group.

The optimal penetration always depend on your group buffs debuffs, so there isn't an easy answer about how much penetration you need to stack.
