PVP - I'm doing it wrong.....

5 of us came across a nightblade. 4 of is start laying into him with snipe, the 5th using his lightning staff. We hardly scratched him. The Nightblade goes stealth and pops up in front of someone 2 shotting him with his bow then stealth again. Pops up again seconds later one shotting another with I'm guessing surprise attack. He then stealth again and pops up just a few meters in front of the remaining 3 of us. We start laying into the Nightblade again with snipe, poison injection. Silver shards. Once again hardly scratching him. At this point he opens up his world map so our view is that he is so bored that he would rather read the news paper because we are nothing but insects to him. The nightblade then cloaks and is gone. He does not return. Honestly to watch him move and kill so flawlessly and fluently as he did was a thing of beauty.

Question? What the hell kind of armor, Stats, food buffs would allow a Nightblade to be so damn tanky and yet at the same time have so much DPS?

This is the Nightblade I want to be.

Get a combat addon and find out if you do little damage or he self heals?

Any class can appear OP with the right equipment and skills.. impossible to tell just from your description.

But PvP solo NB is my high point in ESO so far. Screw teamplay, like Craig Boone I am the last thing you´ll never see.

Thanks for your reply. When I think of the Nightblade class and how it should play, this guy was it. Fluent, graceful, a killing machine from within the shadows. I just love the idea of this class.

I would say it is more a matter of player skill than gear setup...

Probably 5 heavy and all impenetrable armor for the tankiness... If mark target was used on one of your buddies that were killed then the player would have healed through a lot of the damage you were causing, but from the sounds of it you weren't putting much pressure on him/her anyway.

Shacklebreaker is becoming very popular for crafted PvP armor. I like it for more of a balanced build that has plenty of both resources. It can be paired with Agility, Bone Pirate, or Hulking Draugr depending on how you want to go.

You would have to watch effects proc to see what monster set, but I think Selenes (big green bear) is the most popular. Veledreth (three green balls shooting out) is also very common.

Get a dummy for your house and work on various combinations of attacks and their timings. Work on a combination of stun + 2 or 3 abilities that will do a lot of damage in a short time and build muscle memory for it so you can do it easily even if you are under pressure.

Play more PvP, die a lot, and learn from your deaths. Watch what other players are doing to kill you and check your death recaps. Think about what you could do different to survive longer. Try using combinations of skills that others are using that are effective on you.

It will take patience and practice, but you can get there.
    Playing since beta...

This is really amazing and I have to commend OP. He and his friends got pawned and he is asking for information. He want to know more and apparently improve.

The normal MO has seemed to be calling for nerfs instead of wanting to know more and wanting to improve.

And just like that, a sharp turn into"he was cheating."

OP; you're using a lot of direct ranged attacks. Was he rolling or light in color? Maybe have a red sphere around him? Wouldn't stop lightning attacks but what other abilities were you using?

By bow; do you mean he was using a snipe bow, or was it the NB ability? Did you notice what weapons he had on his off bar?

Learn the rotation it's been pretty much the same. Lvl up your cp and learn how to use cp right. Learn the class and put in the time to create your build. Spend time in cyro to know what to look for and how to react. Then you will move fluid because your playstyle and rotation are in sync with your experience :)

If you want to be like him then that is a scrub farming ap off of noobs. smh :/

You can be tanky in any type of armour if you keep your buffs and hot's up. Depending on your armour type you have resistance buffs, shuffle, shields, rally, vigor, rapid regen, etc. Keeping those buffs up during a fight will greatly improve your survivability.

Debuffs are also very important, he probably was using skills to reduce your damage and healing which can make a big difference in a fight. Check your buff tracker and if you notice status effects then purge them. Using debuffs on him would also help increase your damage.

Another thing to consider is you just mentioned damage skills with no cc. If you cc and debuff him before attacking you will be much more effective. It's always good to have a cc in your rotation every 7 seconds when cc immunity wears off.

Detection pots are also great to use against nb's so they can't cloak away and get their resources back. As far as his set up goes there's so many sets available to be effective, but mostly it comes down to skill and always keep those buffs, hot's, and debuffs up.

you have probably met some pro-player with thousands of game-play hours experience, with BIS build and top rotation-skill, no wonder that he was like a rhino being touched by snowflakes :). that happens ;)

or maybe it was a cheater. hard to tell.

but even the first case is pretty usual for PVP.

My boyfriend is a stamina nightblade and I am a magicka nightblade and I can tell you it is skill and play style. Stamina is suppose to be squishy since magicka can shield stack and get instant healing but I have watched my boyfriend gank in the middle of the enemy group and successfully take on multiple players and escape no problem. Watching him, you would think he’s tanky as hell but he’s not, he plays his rotation right. But have him play a magicka nightblade and he couldn’t get the same results. It’s a play style he enjoys and understands. He crunches the numbers. I don’t. I go in and play and shield stack and die. He can also tell you what the other player is, their rotation, their gear and experience/skill just by fighting them for a moment. That knowledge helps by knowing the weak points of the other builds and working around your own weakness to kill. Or simply know when it’s not worth attacking.

I have simply acknowledged that I’m not that into pvp like he is so I won’t get to his skill level. But it’s fun running beside him and watching on his screen when he’s in a 1vX.

But my advice to you is this: play a build you enjoy. Gankers like my boyfriend were hard to combat but him and I dueled and he taught me what I can do to counter him and what to expect. Now I hardly get ganked unless the person has their animation canceling on point. So learn to combat these players. Every build and player dies to something.

Sounds like clever alchemist and trollking to me.

I’d also be willing to bet that he took out the squishiest members of your group first?

I’d also be willing to bet that nobody in your group runs defile?

Snipe is great and the lethal arrow morph does defile, but it won’t hit anyone using Miat’s.

If you were giving him time to break off, stealth and come back at you then he wasn't under any pressure.

The first thing you do with us night blades is counter that, some mage light or other thing to pull us out of stealth will keep us on our toes. Things like caltrops work nicely too, reduces our manoeuvrability

If he has a really strong build then it may not massively change the outcome but more pressure means more chances of mistakes.

Same for any enemy really, look at their strengths and for easy and obvious ways to counter if possible.

That was a glorious description OP.

A lot of stamina NB are pretty "tanky" because they can dodge and cloak to avoid a huge portion of damage outright, then vigor/rally/etc heals through whatever damage does get through.

But the bottom line, you and your team were inexperienced and possibly undergeared and significantly under CP cap. Having 1vXed a decent amount myself, the difference that having even 1 good player pressuring you will make is rather staggering.

You need experience, and there's really no getting around that.

Everything you listed was Dodgeable. Then comes the question of what builds you guys are using?

Clearly no one had a detect pot etc

I didn't read any debuffs like defile or any hard CCs

      I didn't read any ults

I read Silver Shards and I'm very dubious that the user has a skill level high enough to make Silver effective.

His build? Literally could be a handful of different options.

Not to insult anyone by any means. But if no one (and I do come across a lot of teams in BGs that don't) uses any hard CCs, you may as well just try a different opponent. You have to disrupt what your opponent wants to do while also achieving what you want to do

Edit: everything but Lightning staff heavy... Which also does like 0 DMG in PvP... I mean when you read Lightning heavy attack the player is either very good or...

just the sentence "one friend with a lightning staff" tells me you guys are probably in PvE gear and skills.
heavy lightning is great in PvE, when i see guys heavy lightning in pvp i know they are an easy target.
if you are using rotations used successfully in pve, your doing it wrong and need to switch up playstyle
