aside from the sorc pet tree that consists still of generic daedra, a classic staple of summoning within TES, most of the magics or effects within ESO are failry generic "magic" effects, sorcs have a blue theme of magic with some added wind or lightning on some effects, DK's have fire and earth and the most specific related to dragons being the spikes or wings, NB have black and red shadowy effects, and Templars have a classic "light" magic thing going on.
but wardens, oh you wardens. . .
I don't mind the ice, and I don't mind the "generic" plants and nature theme of the healing tree. but the animal tree keeps me from playing that class completely.
there is evidence to suggest that it was also tuned to be more "vvardenfell appropriate" during final development as well, as the original effect of the shalks coming out of the ground in a path was actually a haj'mota from hews bane (you will note that they do a tunneling effect in a path exactly like the warden skill) this was reported by early play testers before the open public had access to it. however it was changed to shalks because of something to do with the animation or effect not working or some such (despite the fact that it seems to work by the NPC's in hews bane just fine)
I suspect the real reason was simple, there are no haj'mota in vvardenfell, but there are shalks, done and done.
the cliff racer dive bird thingy (commonly known as "pigeon spam") is obviously vvardenfell themed, and should have simply been a generic magical bird of some kind (why would high elves, or orcs, or redguards, khajiit, etc. summon cliff racers?)
the shalks could have easily been a tangle of vines moving along (once again more generic) but if it HAD to be some kind of animal a more classic wolf could have worked (their everywhere)
the bugs seem fine if gross, something more like spores could have caused the same effect and been more generic nature.
the wings are actually perfect, that's cool and one of the best effects if only the "SCREEE!" was a little more quiet.
and the netch is the WORST as its so clearly morrowind / vvardenfell and annoying. a little magical glowing ball of nature would have been fine, or the swarm of butterflies (as seen in the pet) would have been pretty and far better, but no every warden of every race for some reason has a netch floating around with them because vvardenfell. . .reasons!!!
this class is so clearly tied and animated to match the expansion its depressing, I would love these effects to be redone completely, and hope that ZOS avoids any such ideas down the line.
anyone else feel the same? not at all? please explain below or let me know if you feel other classes do this too.
EDIT: changed playing to enjoying, as I'm sure people can play the class even if little things irc them.
