Do some of the Warden effect visuals keep you from enjoying the class?

aside from the sorc pet tree that consists still of generic daedra, a classic staple of summoning within TES, most of the magics or effects within ESO are failry generic "magic" effects, sorcs have a blue theme of magic with some added wind or lightning on some effects, DK's have fire and earth and the most specific related to dragons being the spikes or wings, NB have black and red shadowy effects, and Templars have a classic "light" magic thing going on.

but wardens, oh you wardens. . .

I don't mind the ice, and I don't mind the "generic" plants and nature theme of the healing tree. but the animal tree keeps me from playing that class completely.

there is evidence to suggest that it was also tuned to be more "vvardenfell appropriate" during final development as well, as the original effect of the shalks coming out of the ground in a path was actually a haj'mota from hews bane (you will note that they do a tunneling effect in a path exactly like the warden skill) this was reported by early play testers before the open public had access to it. however it was changed to shalks because of something to do with the animation or effect not working or some such (despite the fact that it seems to work by the NPC's in hews bane just fine)

I suspect the real reason was simple, there are no haj'mota in vvardenfell, but there are shalks, done and done.

the cliff racer dive bird thingy (commonly known as "pigeon spam") is obviously vvardenfell themed, and should have simply been a generic magical bird of some kind (why would high elves, or orcs, or redguards, khajiit, etc. summon cliff racers?)

the shalks could have easily been a tangle of vines moving along (once again more generic) but if it HAD to be some kind of animal a more classic wolf could have worked (their everywhere)

the bugs seem fine if gross, something more like spores could have caused the same effect and been more generic nature.

the wings are actually perfect, that's cool and one of the best effects if only the "SCREEE!" was a little more quiet.

and the netch is the WORST as its so clearly morrowind / vvardenfell and annoying. a little magical glowing ball of nature would have been fine, or the swarm of butterflies (as seen in the pet) would have been pretty and far better, but no every warden of every race for some reason has a netch floating around with them because vvardenfell. . .reasons!!!

this class is so clearly tied and animated to match the expansion its depressing, I would love these effects to be redone completely, and hope that ZOS avoids any such ideas down the line.

anyone else feel the same? not at all? please explain below or let me know if you feel other classes do this too.

EDIT: changed playing to enjoying, as I'm sure people can play the class even if little things irc them.

It doesn't bother me although I also suspect they're going to release more pet themes in the future. Early admit guys (or whatever the hell I was) can have a gray bear. I have a gray bear. I'm suspecting we'll eventually be able to flavor the look of our pets, and I do look forward to that. I'd love my Argonian Warden to have a Haj Mota. I'd love more Nordic look for the Nordic warden, but honestly it doesn't bother me too much. Morphing will be nice and I fully expect them to add it.

I think the greater problem is that Wardens were locked behind a gate that I believe a lot people didn't unlock, which has created a problem with the mission to kill Wardens (and that's when the mission counter even functions).

    They're my favourite effect visuals.

What keeps me from enjoying the class is how awful it is in PvE.

Visuals are cool, more the lack of utility abilites. like a executes/ CCs etc.

Wish the Warden had a Pet skilline, like the Sorc. or a Ressource skilline for group support. Something that make it more uniqe.

My wardens are still lowbie, so I might be wrong. Just my 1st impressions :)

I like the wardens "dainty" animations especially because I play a healer, I think it kinda works with it :)!

Hadn't really given it much thought until I saw this thread, tbh. Gave it some thought, and... no, not really. I suppose a bit of variety with the animal tree might be interesting, but none of what I see or experience harms my enjoyment.

the cliff racer should have been just a regular bird i agree. the bear is fine and the shalks is fine. i like the bug swarm but its that damn netch. i hate it.

why why why would my little bosmer girl who has never left valenwood(rp) ever even know what a netch looks like. none the less summon one. a spriggan or a sprite or faery type creature would have been way better.

if they ever do go with skill reskinning then thats the first to go is that damn netch.

I actually love Dunmer and their lore but I have to agree with the OP, the animal companion line abilities are a bit too specific - perhaps even a bit out of place for the class itself. Visually the Netch, Cliff Racer and Shalk are a bit...meh - too flashy for my liking. I was actually a bit disappointed and was hoping for a more pet build/ranger class type for stamina, I like the bear although in PvE he doesn't perform that well. Kinda hoping that they have put off the Warden DPS buffs because they want to revamp the abilities etc.

I’m mostly fine with everything, but they could tone the trees down a bit. The effects and skill is great, but it kind of blocks all view for a moment.

Absolutely! I thought so myself. As if the Dunmer would somehow be more lorewise appropiate to be a Warden. They're not!

Bosmer, Breton and Nord are the most appropiate classes for that! Even Altmer could work far better than dunmer.

    For the most part, no.

however, I definitely wish that I could use netch without the netch visual. I dont need an ugly little jellyfish following me around pissing on me. Would be so much better if that visual were done away with completely.

That's really the only one that bothers me though. I do wish I had an actual bird instead of a cliff racer, and a senche instead of a bear, but other than that it's fine.

The Warden Class visuals don't bother me too much, but I experience vertigo sometimes, and too many flashing lights and effects from the lightning tree with the sorcerer aggravate it, especially when I'm tired or at night.
Also, the sorc pets annoy me a little bit.

It doesn't keep me from enjoying the class, but it IS annoying that they decided to use Vvardenfell-specific animals. It looks a little "off" when a race other than a dark elf uses the cliff racers, blue betty or shalks. Doesn't look quite right when a Nord is throwing cliff racers at people.

Exactly! Just started a Bosmer warden, but the visual effects don’t match the Bosmer lore. Bosmer using ice magic???

Which race would then fit warden the best?

I guess they could make small visual change to fit each race?

Yes of course - strange medusa with snakelegs connected to you with a green beam all the time - not using it was gimping yourself totally. Yack. No proper viking warrior would allow this to happen lol.

Also during ability cast you were losing your weapons for a second. Arctic wind, shrooms etc etc. What the....Who would drop weapons during a foght lol??? That was just akward and lazy design.

I played warden a few times, for pvp, but max for 1 month or so..

It doesn't bother me. This is because I don't base my want, or whether I think it'll be fun or not off of just visual effects. There are some effects I like and summer I just feel meh about, but that reason alone isn't enough to stop me from playing it entirely. If I did that, I would miss out. I think warden is very fun to play, because of HOW it plays, not what all the skills and spells look like...

The Vvardenfell theme is fine, I just really wish they would exchange that overly generic bear for something more typical of Vvardenfell, like a kagouti.

I like the Warden's animals, the shalk, the cliff racer, and yes, the netch. I like that they are not your WOW Bear/Wolf/Rhino, but something very specific to the world of Elder Scrolls, and even there to certain regions.

I always wonder why people asume in Tamriel, that a certain race lives only in a certain region, when we know that the first Empire existed and people probably came to other provinces as bureaucats, legionaires and so forth.
