How does this effect channeled abilities? Channeled abilities are really slow so I was hoping it was not just based on initial damage of a skill like I believe direct damage is? Like say a 3 second channeled ability does damage every second, will you have a chance to proc the effect you are trying to every time you damage?

How about damage from dot's since it does not state direct damage?

    No I don't think that is at all what I meant. Magicka steal is a dot effect on enchants and stuff? I mean like real skills you use like , rapid fire bow skills, radiant destruction form templars, vampire skill that does damage every second for 3 seconds et cetera.

    Will each time they do damage count towards % to proc effect or is it just initial hit like bleeds and poisons? I understand why it would be that way for poisons and bleed its after damage from initial hit and a different kind of damage. I think it would be dumb for channeled abilities...

    Magicka Steal is an active effect that procs upon damage dealt - these types of things will only proc on the initial damage of a dot

    Poisons only proc on Light and Heavy attacks and weapon abilities

    Damage from DW or 2H bleed procs differently than the others and I believe it's direct melee damage with said weapon equipped

    Each effect is different mechanics

    Ok thanks makes sense now. How about when it says when you deal critical damage and use a channeled ability? They can proc multiple times so is it just the first hit as well ;\ ? Same with light attacks dw?

    If it says "When you deal damage" it means any and all damage. Direct, DoT, channelled etc..

    If it says "When you deal direct damage" it means something different. I think it means anything that is not a DoT, but it also seems to not apply universally to AoE damage. It's a bit weird and not helped by ZoS's own coding errors which sows confusion.

    If it says "When you deal critical damage" it means every single piece of damage that crits be it DoT, direct, channelled etc..

    "Melee damage" generally means anything with an 8m or less range, although there are bugs for this one also, such as the dual wield Flurry skill.

    That was awesome response and exactly what I needed to hear for at leas tone of my ideas to be viable heh.

    Direct damage excludes dot damage but for initial hit and skills that say ground. I couldn't find the video for it but very few other exceptions if any.

    Which interestingly enough has a pretty unknown interactions with magicka steal and life steal.

    So adding in the fact OP never mentions proc sets specifically, I thought the question and information was apropos.

    storm master set, for example, can proc on every tick of damage over time during a channeled attack (channeled attack like Radiant Destruction and lightning staff heavy attack count as DoT and benefit from thaumatage CP bonus)

    sorc skill Surge proc on every tick too

    iceheart set can proc on every tick of DoT too

    as long as it does not say 'direct damage' it should proc on DoT

    magickasteal should proc on DoT too, but it's limited by the 1 second cooldown.

    Well his title does in fact say "sets", but I'm sure your info was helpful on an aside anyway.

    Thanks for this as well. Seems like I have a good few ideas worth trying based on the feedback in this thread. Really appreciate all the help always cool to see how many people willing to help and explain on this forum.
