I have a bit of a difficult time figuring out what to put on my templar. He's stamina based, using heavy armour and 2h weapons. PLEASE do NOT try to tell me how I play the class incorrectly should switch to this or that. Just don't do it. Thanks.
With that being said, I could use some tips what to equip.
I decided to start off with 5 pieces of Hunding's Rage. That leaves me with 6 slots. I am not sure whether it's better to simply take another 5 pieces of different set and call it finished, or mix it from different things.
I was browsing through sets on UESP and was basically looking at anything that gave either weapon crit or dmg, or both. There's plenty of that stuff, but maybe there is more effective approach.
What do you suggest?

Hey guys, I need advice, but PLEASE do NOT tell me how to play my class. You see how that could be problematic, right? Is this for PVE or PVP? Hundings suggest PVE, Heavy Armor potentially suggests PVP.

I wont tell you how to do anything, but here are two general statements. Heavy armor is crap for PVE DPS, and hundings is, i wont say crap, but it sure is not great for PVP. Stacking crit is not a good idea in PVP and you need medium armor passives in PVE if you want to pull respectable damage. Do with that what you will.

5 Piece Spriggans is nice to use with Hundings. Then a Velidreth or Molag Kena Shoulder for some extra spell damage.

All easily farmable or bought in the Guild Stores.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

A simple set up for a fresh cp 160 is 5 hundings on body, and 3 agility jewellery. Your head/shoulder and weapons can be a 3 piece either a drop set or a craft set (3 piece night mother's or ashen grip). If you are using a hundings rage weapon you can switch things around accordingly so just having 3 pieces of armor as the craft set or drop set. When you start getting an appropriate shoulder (undaunted keys) or helm (veteran dungeon) you can change things around again

The helm sets are interesting, but fairly overwhelming. I kind of liked Selene and Sellistrix.

That's pretty interesting. I like the stamina on the Agility set.

If you sometimes run normal trials (i doubt you are running vet with your cps) keep an eye out for the stamina dps sets. Keep your options open if you ever wanted to get into more min/maxed type of content in the future.

Belt and Gloves and Jewelry, no real impact on over all armor values.

Agility is good for a Jewelry Set, but your stuck with a Orphan if you do a 2 Piece Monster set too. Monster sets are nice to use and should be included if you can make them work. Me, I use a Molag Shoulder on all mine as i don't dual wield so no 2 piece monster.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

If you are in a guild that lets you play how you want have you asked them this question? In here you'll most likely get advice on how to play properly even tho you requested not too.

I won't comment on the first part, because that would only result in pointless arguing and possibly trolling (internet being what it is).
I play for fun. I am in a guild where people aren't kicked for not playing this or that way or not doing xyz dps. Noone jerks off to damage reports either.
I don't PvP. I just do the usual solo content, daily pledges and dungeons, and a trial once or twice a week.

edit: missed the other replies, oops.

Was I being a smartass? perhaps. That said, all the advice you are going to get on this forum is going to at least nudge you in the direction of the current Meta. I will never tell anyone how to play this game. If you want to be a light armor Breton Stamblade with all your points into health, go for it (just please stay out of groupfinder). If you want to know what is actually going to make you perform better, I would love to discuss it. For PVE as a stamina class, medium armor is far and away your best bet. Hundings is a great place to start, Nightmothers is probably even better. Problem is that you cant craft jewelry so you need at least one dropped set. Agility is an obvious choice if you just want the three piece. If you want a 5 piece, spriggans is one of your better bets when solo, but it is wasted in a good group. You could also look at briarheart, VO, TFS, Sunderflame, Alkosh. The first one gives a bit of healing, the last four give good debuffs.

Depends on what content you want to do. If all you want to do is run delves and get killed attempting over-world mobs you can play however you want. If you are running group content with like minded players that is fine too. For that purposes you can not wear any gear and have fun (3-4 hours per delve or wiping on a boss over and over again in case of group content).

The moment you start doing group content through group finder or with people who care about progress you are wasting other people's time if you are not playing at least to 75% of your class' efficiency. That is when you start asking build help to try optimize your character.

You cannot optimize a casual player. Just try every possible set you can and whatever fits your play-style use it..

If you like 2h weapons you could try using Sword-Singer jewelry, weapon, and a belt. That set is similar to Hundings, but specifically for 2h abilities.

Are you a nine trait crafter? If not, that should be your first goal because crafted sets have all different requirements, and crafting them yourself is far cheaper.

If you're worried about survivability, I would recommend more points into health attribute. You should also look into plague doctor and green pact sets. And a sword and board on the backbar for those passive resistances when you bar swap.

And I would recommend the first ability in sword and board slotted, too. You should use that about every 10 to 13 seconds on every enemy you see. That'll help raise group DPS. There's also some fun stuff in Undaunted you should check out.

The heavy armored warrior playstyle is totally doable, it just won't be min/max efficient. Not sure how it is on a Templar, but I've gotten on the Maelstrom Arena DK weekly leaderboard using heavy armor and 2h/1hs. I'm sure you can figure out something that works for you.

Yes, you should use another 5 piece and for the last open slot a one piece monster set. Since you do PvE id go for Twice Fanged Snake, which drops in Sanctum Ophidia or if you can't get that Spriggans, which is weaker but can be bought in guild stores.

I don't understand though. You want advice on how to improve yourself, but you don't want advice on how to improve yourself?

Heavy armor is really bad for PvE dps. It's no longer a matter of "play how you want" when you are in a group to do pledges or trials. It's like signing up as a tank and not equipping a single taunt, or signing up as a healer without a single heal.

Imagine having to group up with a Templar healer in full heavy armor, all attributes in health, with a two handed sword but hey they slotted Breath of Life so they're a healer. It's not just unfair to yourself (do to yourself what you want), but it's unfair to the poor group that is practically forced to do the content with you.

With that said, if you're ever interested in actually improving yourself without gimping yourself intentionally, here are some easy-to-get options:
    5 x Hunding's Rage (in medium)
    5 x Spriggan's
2 x Monster set (Kra'gh's is really easy to get and very effective)
This means you need to duel wield, which will improve your performance exponentially.

If you just can't live without that greatsword, you could go:
    1 x Kra'gh's for the extra penetration
    5 x Hunding's
    5 x Spriggan's

    or:
    5 x Hundings
    3 x Agility
    2 x Monster set
Which would leave you with 1 piece free (you could slot vMA or Master weapons here, or just leave it free).

Hell if you don't have monster sets, you could even go:
    5 x Hundings
    3 x Night Mother's gaze
    3 x Agility jewelry
And you'd already see a huge improvement.

Since Hunding's is crafted, you could also make one piece in heavy and one piece in light to get the undaunted bonus.

There are lots of (easily obtainable) options to choose from without being a meta *** and without intentionally gimping yourself.
