The Markarth DLC and Update 28 base game patch are now available to test on the PTS! Read the full patch notes here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/pts/

Pure speculation, but what if you can only re-trait once, or re-trait only a limited number of times

Let's say you get a dropped weapon, you are only allowed to change the trait once in it's entire lifetime.

or you are only allowed to re-trait it a maximum amount of 3 times.

or there is a cooldown on re-traiting, like 72 hours or something.

Thoughts?

    First thought:why?
we already have to grind for the material and why put a cooldown on retrait, it is not like a cyrodiil campaign change

Maybe it will be random. "change to a random trait"! And drop rate will be like undaunted keys.

With the way you obtain the stones to retrait them, I don't think there will a limit as to how many times a weapon can be retraited.

I think it's going to be expensive to do, so you wouldn't necessarily want to change something more than once. For most people it will probably work out better to pick up another cheap bad trait item to change to a second useful trait than swap and change the same one multiple times.

I bet the use will be unlimited but those crystals which are needed will probaly have an extremly low droprate which far outweight the costs of 8 gold mats and only will be used on things like ma weapons or monster sets.

They've already said you can change to any trait you've researched; that implies you choose which trait. Even if it was random, all you'd need is a couple of characters with only one trait each researched, but I don't expect that to be the case

Unfortunately with ZOS, there is in fact often a "catch" involved. I wouldn't be surprised.

There is no question retraiting will be ruined when it's introduced, maybe by ridiculous drop rates or limitations. With ZOS there is never much to look forward to.

they already stated that the trait has to be learned. So even it were like that you could control it by say only knowing one trait.

Dumbest idea in eso history almost as equally dumb as trait reasearch time and horse upgrade cool down.... I hope this cooldown or limited idea never gets implemented

What if retraiting an item removes one skill slot from your skillbar?

What if retraiting an item deletes one of your characters at random?

What if retraiting an item makes your hair fall out?

What if retraiting an item causes a fist to come out of the screen and punch you in the face?

I just wonder about the cost in crystals. Will green items cost lest to change traits than legendary items? If so green off trait items would now be worth more than purple off trait items. I hope it isn't that way, but I have an odd feeling. Hopefully will find out tomorrow if its put on PTS.

No matter how it's implemented you can probably be sure that a lot of farming will still be involved. ZOS has never backed down when it comes to the grind. Be prepared for the retrait items to have a very low drop rate and maybe only from like vet HM or something. That'd be my guess.

This will be interesting, I'm kind of happy in a way cause it will really bring the prices down on farmed overland sets that are over priced for no reason.
I wonder if you will be able to retrait "unique" pieces (the ones that are rewards for quests or only drop from certain bosses"

And it'll bring the prices UP on the unloved traits on those same sets, because now any trait can *theoretically be fixed.

*assuming you spend the next month or more farming vet dungeons non-stop.

I hope every dungeon last boss give a crystal. And that you need no more than 10-20 to re-trait.

Anyway, me and my dreams ...
