since when have i not been able to hold bow heavy attack? it auto releases now

is this new or old? decided to go on my stealth setup and noticed my heavy bow attacks let go of themselves now, not a bad thing just unexpected

It was changed with Morrowind patch. Never liked the change myself but it is what it is.......

It was changed to make Bows act more like Melee Weapons.

Not sure if I like the change either, actually, I don't like the change. It is unlike any other TES Bow now.

It actually acts like all weapons now. Staves as well have automatically released when fully charged. Bows were the anomaly and they weren't happy with people in stealth holding it waiting for the perfect moment sometimes also.

I get why they did it, but I prefer the old way better. It was done to prevent gankers holding heavies in stealth and waiting for the perfect moment to fire. It now behaves like every other weapon.

I wish they made it so you could hold a heavy but it would slowly drain stamina once it's charged. Seems like it would have been a good compromise.

Well, if you bring up other TES games then magic also doesn't behave the same as the other games, such as Skyrim where you could hold it charged as long as you wanted also.
Really best not to bring up the other games as it is always disappointing to compare this game to them.

If I recall, the dev notes about that change were related to the sustain changes encouraging more use of heavy attacks to sustain. Under the old bow mechanic, it could be a bit imprecise to know exactly when a heavy attack was fully charged so they made it like other weapons.

I understand the logic but, frankly, am among the ranks of those that preferred it the way it was (released by player when they were ready).

But... that's how a bow is supposed to work. You pull, hold until you have your target, and then release.

Maybe a better way would have been to drain Stamina as you were holding the attack, as it would happen in real life with a traditional long or short bow.
