Okay, can someone tell me what the benefit of these large Dolmen groups is?

I only seem to be getting xp if I manage to hit the enemy. Aren't you supposed to get xp just from being in the immediate area while in a group? It normally wouldn't be a problem, but the Alik'r group kills the enemies way before I can even think about hitting them. What is the benefit of such a large group?

You get a chunk of xp when the dolmen is closed if you hit anything at all, or anybody in your group did. The xp for killing things is on top of that. And there's a multiplier just for being grouped while you get xp, although I think that gives the best return in groups of less than eight. I'm not sure why people go full raid group, maybe because nobody likes to lead even in that situation, or maybe it's just force of habit.

Wouldn't worry about the xp from killing monsters at dolmens, because often, the dolmen pinions are closed very quickly and you get next to nothing.

It's all about leveling and farming, just make sure that you get enough hits on a mob for xp so that you get the chest. That's 6k free xp buddy.

    Farming what? Green rings?
ZOS nerfed the fun out of dolmens, especially Alik'r, way back in January.

As things stand its an extremely quick and cheap way to farm xp.

Virtually zero repairs, no reliance on a buddy to drag you through harder content no need for training gear every 10or so levels. Just create char port to a guildie there and shout +dolmen 12 14 hrs later your 50 with minimal input watch a tv series listen to some music.

I dont quite get it either as 50 skillpoints aint enough for jack so you usually end up running all the content you would have.

the way I can see it, is that you don't really have to worry about upgrading gear while doing dolmens, so if you have a set waiting for your alt for when they hit 50, its more relaxing to do all that content AT 50. not to mention - dolmens are great to level weapon skills/etc. personaly I still get far too impatient and can only handle a dolmen grind for at most an hour, after which I just go back to questing.

If you're going to do dolmen in Alikr you will need some kind of instant ranged attack or gap closer to get xp from the kills. If you try to do it with melee skills you might as well run in circles swinging at the air until the boss drops.

Its certainly worth killing stuff for xp. I havent crunched the numbers but i would estimate the trash mobs give you half the xp of the dolmen bonus. Like 32k xp when the dolmen closes means potential for about 15k from trash during it.

The mobs die before they even load for me at Al'kir dolemns... :/. I only get the dolemn kill credit by spaming buffs or heals.

I don't understand why anyone would want to play this game like this.

The point of doing the alikr grind is to avoid playing the game....its mindless grinding. When you are leveling your 13th or 14th character you just want a means to hit 50 that requires no thinking or effort.

my crafter, if he was near one when it went off, went in and soul trap was the only spell used. came out with a stack of gems. iv got 400 spare in the bank, which i'll likely sell when i consolidate all my pots and gems to see how many extra i really dont need.

Farming XP, in my experience. It's one of the fastest ways to level alts. Plus, the occasional purple Nectropotence ring in Rivinspire is nice
if youre leveling alts, then youre getting jewelrt that is worthless cause its less than cp 160, unless youre grinding champ points but theres better ways to do that

Wait for an event with experience boost, couple that with a potion and full training gear set, and Dolmen farming will level a toon from 1 to 50 in about 7 hours.

You certainly don't talk to people in Dolmen Farming Club. They are very boring people. Or they're robots, also often the case.

It was a great way to max all my Resto line without having to run dungeons. Then I could go into dungeons with maxed skills.
This is what I do, too. I use dolmens to level up my lesser-used skills like restoration staff, bow, and under-used skills. That way I won't be attempting to level those up with a horde of angry gargoyles barreling toward me. LOL. Bow in particular, since bows stink like a dead carcass until they're leveled up a bit.

I always figured the big groups sort of snowballed out of smaller groups that all the solo players joined in desperation when they couldn't manage to make any kills for the dolmen chest after a group swooped in and melted everything into ash in milliseconds. xD

I find, Dolmen Groups should form in every country of Tamriel. It is annoying, for example, when you have the Fighters Guild Daily in Shadowfen and you dont manage the last Boss. You write and write in zonechat while watching the ever present Bottrains farm around you. In the same time, Auridon and Alikr Dolmens get depopulated. Just get a change of view from Time to Time

Most of these posts were funny.

I also used dolmens during double xp events, but it was barely tolerable. I just wanted one of each class to 50. I still haven't leveled a warden partly because of the grind and partly because I haven't figured out if they would fit my play style yet.

It is definitely nice getting every drop in max level just in case it is a good item, or a unique item.
FYI, waiting until Champion 160 to do the freebie undaunted key invitation quest grants you a max gear level shoulder piece. I found this out after my first character wasted it at level 45.

Joined a dolmen train in Alik'r yesterday night, after seeing this thread. Ran with it for 2 loops (6 dolmens, total). It was simply not fun, even if the XP is nice.

The purpose if a game is to have fun. So I hopped off and went away to do something more fulfilling. It does seem like a fast way to fill soulgems though, if you have a few stacks of empty ones laying around.

Yep, it's not about the fun of the dolmens but the fun after when we finally have access to all our skills at their full power and gear we won't need to replace in 5 minutes.
That's the whole point of mindless xp farming in any game.

It's been around since Ultima Online and it's here to stay until design changes drastically.

Since the introduction of Champion points, this game begins when you are level 50. So best to get to 50 as soon as possilbe then do the pve content especially if you are not at Champion point cap.
Dolmen groups are a decent way to level a new character with little effort. Just equip a lightening or destro staff and level your skills as you go. Any old equiptment will do. Just put on the 'best' dropped gear from the dolmen box.
