That depends. Perfect situation would be to add it to crafting station... On the other hand it might be added to be DLC only (some special items to farm or some special re-traiting station) - only to be found in the new DLC zone.... For now we can only assume...

IMO monetisation would be straight P2W. I don't think they have the guts to do it. If they decide to implement it that way they'll most likely lose more than they'll earn from people boycotting the crown store and not subbing. I'm OK with it if they excluded unique weapons like Master, Maelstrom and the ones from the upcoming trial and made BoE gear bound to account if retraited. I think that's the most likely scenario.

My guess is they will introduce some new type of re-traiting material that will be really hard to obtain. Maybe it will be an EXTREMELY rare drop from farming nodes.

But it will also be conveniently available in the crown store for a modest price. :)

Its going to be expensive, this game is entering the casual/monetization phase where everything has a store cost. Might be a rare in game drop of course but you want to see where the game is heading google "Lord of the Rings Online".

Usually you get 3 good years of MMO game play until companies completely flip the switch on the greed. The game will get easier and easier. Now if you get a drop you dont like, BUY A FIX.

Another thing they could do is stealth nerf the drop rates of all the best traits. Thereby forcing players to buy the new re-traiting material in the crown store.

If monetizing it causes the PvE system for retraiting to turn into another mythic aetherial ambrosia grind I will immediately withdraw all support and good vibes I've had for the system since it was announced. I really hope they don't monetize it at all, to be frank, it seems like there's a 100% overlap between giving a cash shop route for something and the PvE for that something going to crap.

One piece of circumstantial evidence that doesn't fit the monetisation story is the recent trait change. Now you have 3-4 traits that are good on a weapon instead of just one. The difference is really small and none of them is a clear winer in itself, but it depends a lot on buffs, debuffs, skills etc. If they really wanted to earn a lot of money from it the "sharp or trash" META would have stayed.

Not really. Who controls the drop rates again? Not saying anything will change, but that is hardly any sort of evidence.

Why would they kill their own game by going P2W?

ZOS is in the business of making money. Kind of hard to do that if no one is playing your game.

There is zero chance re-traiting will cost crowns.

I'll guess that if it doesn't come with Clockwork city, the option will eventually do. But obviously there is going to be an ingame, reasonably priced, way to retrait.

If they do decide to do it by crowns and keep it under 1K crowns per trait it won't be that bad. I consider that to be a reasonable price. For those who want to do it. But with the 0.5% DPS that you gain from it won't matter that much so if they price it higher people might not buy at all and stick to the traits they have.

I'll say about 400 crowns. I think it might end up similar to Mythic Aetherial Ambrosia, where they'll technically keep their word about only selling cosmetics or things available in-game, then putting enough barriers in place that few people will be able to have it without paying ZOS some crowns or lucky players a ton of gold.

I really hope they treat it more like furnishing crafting (where it was truly base game content with decently obtainable items), or even like Research Scrolls (where the crown items are slightly overpriced, but the in-game content is affordable).

I'm just kinda in a place with ZOS where I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed and disgusted. So, I'll expect the worst.

I am hoping not really... I always think 'cheats' and fastpassing basic game things completely ruins a game.... for example pretend I am playing Candy Crush... it is far too easy to just keep chucking money on bonuses to get past a level, and once you've done it once why not again and then what is the point in playing atall... if I make any sense?

With any luck it will be something along these lines... perhaps you HAVE to be a master trait in the item you want to retrait? At the VERY least know the trait you wish to change to. And then make it like researching.... you basically give the item to the workbench and get it back when the timer is done... I definitely don't think the finished item should be tradeable once completed and I also think it should cost some sort of material to do it, like someone else said a special retraiting gemstone which could either drop or even crown purchasable.

Another good thing would be the passive skill line that makes research quicker, maybe it should also make retraiting quicker so that passive skill is no longer redundant to master crafters.

Anyways, that is my tuppence to the convo

Luckily, I think I read that you will have to know the trait on that slot. Being a master crafter of the item would make sense as well (I mean, why would it take 27 days to learn something that you somehow know how to remove without ruining the item?)

I actually really like the idea of making it attached to/in line with Research. I'd imagine it should take a week for someone without buffs.

It would make research canceling more useful. Considering you lose the item, and all progress, I didn't feel like it was much of a QOL unless you picked the wrong common trait on an item and were immediately cancelling it. Retraiting would have a bit more reason to cancel. While you're farming items, you can a bad trait for something and re-trait it. If you end up getting the item or finding it cheap or something, you can choose to sell it or just cancel the retrait if you have something else you want retraited.
As you said, it would also make the research time passives still useful (I planned to just respec out). It could also still benefit from the ESO Plus time reduction, and any research scrolls you use.

I'm going to guess this will be free, maybe with a Crown Store shortcut in the future but that's stepping VERY close to P2W lines.

They already monetised this by making you need traits though, so research scrolls are now more appealing to some.

I hope it´s free. But probably they´ll charge it with 3000 crowns, and you´ll have to buy a new chapter to gain entrance to the retraiting station.
