Please tell me that this is optional!?

It is so vital in certain and most situations to be able to see where(specially for tank) your teamates are putting down skills.

I'm a PVE roleplayer concerned about my vampires stage 4 skin tone and keep getting load screens so I came here to distract people from major issues with a rant thread about my characters cosmetic appearance.

    Important skills that are tethered to synergies or buffs remain visible, it's only damaging particle effects. Anything that heals, provides a synergy, or a buff remains completely visible to all allies.

    I lied, but you asked so nice.

    I've got mixed feelings about the whole thing.

    Don't mind the ground coverage showing where the area of affect but all the glitz and fancy flashing effects were just annoying.

    Its a stupid change.

    I kind of want to know friendly aoe in pvp so i can time my burst or my aoes etc..

    I was thinking of exactly this, and area denial strategies.

    A stability-improving functionality shouldn't be optional. You're essentially asking ZoS to give you the option to worsen server strain at the expense of the rest of the player base. There's a special place in Oblivion for garbage like yourself.

    Seeing as how the particles are rendered client side, your particular brand of BoSchitt doesn't fly here.

    Look in the mirror.

    Most of the particles were unecessary anyway, and it's not as if them all rendering would make some people better players. It could be an optional setting, though.

    @Vercingetorix please explain to me me, how graphic representation client side is issue since server still has to process all aoes no matter if you see them. Are you really that dumb?

    It's for reducing lag, and has also a nice collateral effect making life a bit harder for aoe stackers (primarily, destruction staff ultimate). So, it's fine the way it is.

    It definitely should be an optional setting. I just dislike seeing people chastise others over a shaky premise.

    I dont think that removal of sight of your allies abilities was a good choice.
    I understand that zos is trying to lessen the lag. But maybe this isnt the right answer.

    From my experience in pve: tanks are constantly moving out of the dps' ground aoe bc they cant see it. One tank even asked if someone in the group just eots bc he heard it but saw nothing.

    From my pvp experience: since i dont see what my allies are doing now in fights, positioning is now more tedius. (General statement, Too many instances to bring up)

    All in all, my experience is now lessened in many different facets due to this change. I for one would like this reverted back, and have zos come at fixing lag from a different angle

    Lag and framerate are two different things. Lag is like ping, your connection back and forth between the server, delay between you sending or receiving data from other players with the server inbetween. Framerate is your PC/client having trouble rendering 3d graphics.

    If you plop down a friendly AOE... Even if the graphical display were completely turned off and invisible, the fact that it healed somebody for X amount is still the same amount of data being sent to the server, sent to other players, etc. The "lag" involved remains the same.

    Unless I'm sorely mistaken, the only way having friendly AOE's be visible would affect anyone is making their graphics card work a little harder and display more effects, particles, whatever. TLDR, that sort of fix is only there to help people playing on lower-end machines. It would indeed help them maintain a better framerate in a large battle or something, so they could react in a timely manner. But I feel like that should be up to the player to lower their graphics settings if they have it too high and can't play smoothly, not to forcefully inhibit other players.

    Dps throws down some damage aoe....before this change the server would have to tell every client around the aoe about it, now it doesnt bother. That will reduce the amount of notifications the server has to send out to clients.

    This change isnt just about making your graphics card draw less sparkly effects. Thats just a side effect.
