pug'ing is completely hit or miss...

potions or sustain sets (maybe both) are super important...

pre made groups have a huge advantage...

keep your head on a swivel...

after a while you'll get used to the different arenas and games, so you'll know where you need to go...

On PC EU it is about 50-60% veteran pvp players in BGs with up to 3 years of eso pvp experience. Most of them were known as smallscalers in cyro before. It's a difficult scenario for newcomers or pvp casuals.

You should never forget, though, you will improve absurdly fast as a player in such environments if you are willing to learn from your losses.

Everytime I go to BG I feel like:

"I want to use the setup that person is running". I often ask the players in opposite team what they´re running for gear and such. Gives some inspiration to try new things out. But I prefer CP-PvP so BG`s not really my thing

biggest thing i've learned since playing BGs is probably that most players arent near as good when theyre not running in a 50 man group.

Also, Battlegrounds are far more fun than I was expecting. It took Mayhem to get me to actually dip my toes in.

That the game is completely balanced around CP so having a no CP PvP without addressing some overperforming things makes no sense.

Mages wrath is stupidly broken. Bring back rd spam!

If you don't have your group online, don't bother. You and your brave pugs will get squashed.

You queue longer than play.

Not something I've learned, more like confirmation. Capture the flag SUCKS. On every game I've ever played. This is no exception. Games finish with about 3 kills sometimes. Why am I queuing for 20 minutes for someone with immovable speed pots just to capture flags in 2 minutes. Utterly pointless.

Currently, but competitive isn't the word for it. I would call them rather "the only small scale option in the game". BGs are only a for fun mode in times of boredom without higher purpose.

BGs will be competitive when they add ranked option or change current leaderboards to measure player performance and not time spent in BGs.

Here's what I've learned from BGs...
Regarding Premades:
- Running a full experienced premade group with voice chat is ideal, but also pairs you against similar groups unless pop numbers are low, in which case you easily steamroll pugs
- Tank/healer and Tank/dps partners are very powerful, particularly Stam/Mag Templar pairs.

Regarding Solo Queing:
- Recognize that sometimes your group is just going to sucks and be ok with doing your best anyway.
- During lol pop times, you can get pitted against the same Premade over and over while solo queing, which sucks.
- Chatting strategy in chat before the match. Simply reminding people to stick together can make an impact in how your group behaves.
- Exploit weak/undefended positions: Go to capture points that are empty, take relics while the other team is off trying to take someone else's, flank enemy teams and focus the player in the back
- Focusing one target at a time is always better than jumping around to different targets without finishing the first one off. Even if using AOE skills, one person needs to be the focus.
- If you recognize you are focusing a tank and there are other squishier targets around, switch to dealing with those first.
- Build enough stamina and mobility into your kit so that you can move around the BG quickly.
- Don't try to fight against odds you know you can't win. Retreat, regroup, then either redirect to a new objective or reengage with more teammates.

That there are much better games if you want to PvP

You know: low ping, high and stable FPS, clearly visible characters and animation, better balance. I've started playing Dirty Bomb a few weeks ago and i just can't stand ESO PvP now. Yes DB is a shooter but i'm talking about basic stuff right now and basic requierements for an enjoyable PvP are the same everywhere.

I learned that ESO put them in as a way to help get people to buy the cash grab that was morrowind. They really were half assed just so they could say they put in battlegrounds. IDK how they did not put in level brackets, or at least a CP 160+ bracket. As a capped CP/gear player, I dont find it enjoyable fighting against teams that have non level 50s that die in two hits as they have no gear sets or abilities/passives.
