Why are NPCs around me yawning all the time?

I have no idea what's going on, but everytime I mount a horse and ride around a city, I regularly keep hearing yawning noises. That sound is annoying the sh.. out of me. Does anyone know what's going on?

Are you using the scholar personality by any chance? It will at times cause your character to make an odd noise which sounds like a whimper to me but could be thought of as a yawn sound.

No, I don't even know what it is.
I can't even figure out where is the sound coming from. It just happens at random times. Always i cities though.

Daggerfall is some of the worst noise pollution in this game in general.

Go to Reaper's March stables, you'll hear a guy yawn every 3 seconds.

Those npcs never get to sleep. Zenimax has them working so hard day and night. It's amazing they're still standing.

They've been going through the same motions and saying the same lines to every new and old PC who wanders along. Of course they're exhausted! They don't even get to go home and go to bed every evening the way NPCs in other TES games do. The most exciting thing that's happened to them in years was having dragons fly over their cities last year.

My vote is for this, if what you're hearing is specific to Daggerfall.
Giblets will follow you around just as... ummm... doggedly (pun really not intended, but I'm going with it)... as Stuga*.
Only, instead of talking (because he's a dog), Giblets whimpers at you until you pay attention to him.
I could see someone mistaking that for a human yawn, if you don't realize where the sound is coming from, and Giblets is very often following behind you, so you won't always see him.

*Stuga I can ignore, but a sad sounding dog breaks my heart, so I have to take the quest, every time.

Mounts have sound effects; especially the fancy ones. Is it your mount or your pet?

No, I don't think it's the dog whining. There are several places where NPCs yawn around you, although right now I can't think of any particular location where this occurs a lot.

There is a big difference between a yawn from a human and a dog whine...

You know, I think it might be the guards, especially the ones who have to stand in the same place a lot, such as in the bank. Every so often they will yawn, arch their back, stretch their arms, and roll their head from side to side to stretch their neck.

Speaking of ambient sounds... please tell me I'm not the only one who hears the faint tinkling of wind chimes every so often in the Rimmen crafting area? Doesn't happen a ton, but every now and then it's as if a breeze has rustled them. It's quite nice and reminds me that it'd be awesome to get some actual craftable windchimes that make that sound (the Murkmire ones have a wooden windchime sound, rather than a metal/glass tinkling like what I hear in Rimmen).

I've heard that too. I'd LOVE to have a craftable glass windchime!
