Compared to 6 months ago, do you feel more or less invested in ESO

Megabear

With nearly all MMO's third month is my limit to feeling invested/interested, after which I slowly begin feeling burnt out until inevitable complete disinterest. It's been four months since I began playing ESO and despite its glaring flaws (i.e. server stability, bots) I continue to feel equally, if not more, invested and look forward to playing the game. They must be doing something right. What's your experience?

For the purpose of this poll please use six months prior for comparison to your current experience (3-4 months is probably too short for most). If you've been playing for less than six months, such as myself, please choose a poll option "I've been playing less than six months".

As of right now I struggle to find things to do other than the dailies. This is mainly because I am waiting for Horns of the Reach although it is unlikely to keep me busy until the next new zone releases. I still find the game very enjoyable but I feel there could be so much more to keep me invested sometimes.

For me it's not that cut and dry! In the last 6 months, most days I play for hours and love every minute of it. Then a day will come when I feel comletely bored of it and just do my crafting and log out. Then the next day I am back to loving it! It's really more about my mood that day than it is about my interest/investment level.

I don't understand how ephemeral a lot of people are. I beta tested UO, played for years. Beta tested Everquest, played for years. Played Eve for years.

From chess to (consistently winning) poker, to MMOs, there is a lot to be said for mastery and the long, deliberate road.

I was a very early tester here, years later I still love the game and have loads left to do. FAR from perfect, lots of annoyances - but in one man's opinion who has been around since the MUD days and before - it is the best game in town.

I played for a year and a half when it first came to console and then took a break when Destiny came out. I really enjoyed coming back to plenty of new material and significant game changes. I PvP but only when other friends are as I think it's kinda boring. I love doing PvE stuff but have trouble finding time for doing trials so at this point I've pretty much exhausted all there is to offer. Destiny 2 is out soon so maybe I'll take a break again. Just not sure yet. I still really want to have fun in this game. It's just been becoming harder to do.

As much as I love the game (as I have said before), I'm finding it harder and harder to be interested in it. I want to spend more time in PVP & PVE but I have to spend an excessive and boring amount of time farming gear because of the constant nerfs and what-not's. I mostly stick around because of my investment and the occasional new DLC (that is completed way too quickly). If it were not for the crafting bags I would have dropped my sub long ago. If ZOS made dungeon drops BOE instead of BOP I could just buy what I need and get to having fun.

There are times, recently, when I cannot play as often as I used to, due to work or home or (other callings..) but then there are times when I spend almost all day on, and during those times I struggle back and forth. I am more likely to be engaged if there are people on that I have played with for years and we get together, or maybe I just need to stew my brain a bit and collect mats. Then I disappear for a bit and fight with myself to play again.

played since beta, this game has the best time to playing with balance etc, but from last patch morrowind I just found new game by friend and thank this I see how ESO is really poor and I started to believe other people who was saying many times how eso is just poor and underdeveloped with every next DLC/expansion to compare almost every other mmo

but my invested in ESO began to decline since almost year ago because every next patch was just worse and worse to game, balance and every next DLC was smaller than previous

As a vet player there is nothing left to keep me occupied pve wise and pvp has been getting more cancerous each patch alteration. They tried fixing pvp by nerfing resources but the geniuses at zos forgot that people will still use procs in order to make up for the lack of damage and regen and also being able to combine it with a regen set or put regen on their jewlery. There you go, it's as if the patch never existed for pvp. So now zos created this hole where pvp players are not happy because proctard stam nb's are still there and they are not the only issue, it's also the procs for magicka characters as well being almost uncounterable such as grothar, valkyn skoria. Procs in general do not promote a healthy balanced game, and you will never achieve balance with such disparity in damage.I know zos want's new players but procs are the answer to make the game easier for them in order to enjoy it.

Also BOL spam and it's healing is too damn high, it's basically a rally on steroids, and a bunch of skills and ultimates that are undodgeable or nearly uncounterable such as soul assault and being so cheap to get for how rewarding it is. For the love of god also remove lethal arrow that skill should not even be in the game. PVE lol don't even get me started with pve, heavy attack spam anyone? how fun is that. My poor finger. This is brutal for console players. I don't even pve because of it. My hands are more important and i rather take care of them than forcing them into doing some unorthodox cluster ****k of a control lay out in order to heavy attack spam. I already have enough doing that in PVP but at least i don't have to heavy attack spam and still my hands wanna die after a two hour pvp session. Competitive trial guilds players in PS4 don't care because some use modded controllers because they are tryhards but for people who don't care about going MLG, the slow pace really has done a number on this game across all platforms but specially console.

There should be a separation for how stats work in pvp and pve respectively because that is also another major balance issue. You enter into an endless paradox where you are adding too much water on one side but you are also unconsciously lowering it on the other side and vice versa.

More interested, because its like at its peak right now or around the peak.
The other games I play they at the bottom and waiting for new expansion or something to bring it back up. (trough)

Fun having high level multiple games. Defiantly not a kind of game I would stay for long haul, they dont design this MMORPG like that. The long haul MMORPGs are the ones where time > skills. This game, GW2 its skills > time. Therefore once you get best gear (not difficult, hence why skill is more important) I tend to get bored and just come for dailies.

As long as they dont make these dailies harder I'll still be lingering back and forth. Vet dungeons are fine where they are now at. No need to make an even more insane one. They do this in GW2 and I dislike it. If any of you familiar with GW2, fotm, Maw you gotta kill adds during boss fight, no more tentacles only. Snowblind, similar deal, they have adds that spawn when he goes on cliff you cannot hit him on while dropping icilies and only way to make him stop dropping icilies and come back so you can hit him is by killing adds. These are dailies, I aint raiding, no time for that, if dailies become like a raid, I just will have wont log in every now and then, because I will have no time to do what I wanna do. Vet dungeons in ESO, fotm in GW2. (btw, these are the T1 versions of Maw and Snowblind, aka easymode, yet they take so long now, and require so much energy).

I'm struggling to stay interested/invested in ESO
I no longer feel like I have much of a reason to reason to play besides RP. I fear this is becoming a trend after I finish each content update. It is just too easy to get burnt out now, and if something fresh was done it would really liven the game up. Morrowind would have been a step in this direction if not for its rebranding as a "chapter" and its lack of content and quest choices. Not only should we have been able to explore each tomb and building, but we should also have had the choice to play the bad guy, not just the politically correct "hero."

This isn't just Morrowind, though. The base game, while being more enjoyable than most MMOs, is bland and monotonous once completed once or twice. The zones feel mostly the same due to their gray theme. Even the grass is grayish; nowhere do I see vibrant landscapes, not even in Auridon or in the Autumn forests of the Rift, and the developers take every opportunity they can to use gray in buildings (even in Ayleid ruins which are a clean white in the distant future). This desaturation would be perfect for some zones such as Rivenspire, but not for the supposedly lush areas of Tamriel. This is Morrowind's greatest strength, in my opinion, besides its glorious soundtrack. The landscape is awe-inspiring, besides the Telvanni towers that look like they were grown out of putrid flesh rather than elegent yet forboding mushrooms and Telvanni sorcery.

Another major issue is the lack of end-game content, especially for average to above average players. While I am able to complete vWGT and vCoS, many are not, and they have nothing to do but run the same base dungeons over and over again. This can grow old rather quickly, causing such players to quit rather than improve because it doesn't seem to be worth it, and in many cases, it isn't. DLC with these players in mind should act as stepping stones, giving purpose to reach heights formerly impossible to achieve. Either that, or some difficulty should exist between normal and veteran, as there is a tremendous difference between the two.

This is by no means a list of every critique I have with the game. There are many, many more, but these are the ones I can recall off the top of my head. ESO is still an amazing game, but it can definitely be improved in many ways.
      With cold regards,

I don't quite understand what you mean by the feeling "invested" in it, can you explain a bit more?

Do you mean simply that you spent a lot of time playing before, took a long time to get some kind of achievement or research all the traits etc, so if you quit the game you lose the progress you made?

Or invested in the sense of a stakeholder, that you want ESO to be successful and grow more popular?

I don't understand how ephemeral a lot of people are. I beta tested UO, played for years. Beta tested Everquest, played for years. Played Eve for years.

From chess to (consistently winning) poker, to MMOs, there is a lot to be said for mastery and the long, deliberate road.

I was a very early tester here, years later I still love the game and have loads left to do. FAR from perfect, lots of annoyances - but in one man's opinion who has been around since the MUD days and before - it is the best game in town.

I see where you're coming from and agree to a point. I'm similar to you, usually invest a few years into a game I enjoy. 3 years Eve, 2 years Lotro, a number of years bouncing between NWN, TSW, FFXIV and another 3 years in GW2.

I've been playing ESO for six or so months now and leveled 7 characters. I'm really glad I didn't gear grind but XP ground instead as in the time I've played I've experienced major class changes (prior to Morrowind or the Death of a Templar Patch), major game systems change (sustain nerf + CP jump points) and major item changes (proc set nerf and the upcoming gear changes in HotR).

I'm of the opinion that those are far too many far reaching changes in less than a year and feel that as soon as I get to grips with something or feel like I'm progressing, the development team goes ahead and changes it.

For older players (hours played) you already have farmed gear, ample mats on hand and more than enough gold to fill in any gear gaps but it is extremely disheartening for newer players and indicative of an immature and/or inexperienced development team that feels such changes are needed. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they have a master plan in place and are working towards an overall improvement to the experience and stability of the game.
