This has been requested before and I totally agree it would be awesome to have your alts chillin in your primary residence planning their next great adventure.

I was thinking about this earlier today actually. Now, I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. But I was wondering about either alts or NPC's roaming around player housing, and I wasn't sure if that would be difficult given that everyone designs their homes differently, we wouldn't want them to be hindered by a table if they could walk around a bit for example. I would much rather them move around and interact with the environment than be still and lifeless like a table or a chair. If they can't move around a bit, I'm not sure how happy I would be with the feature.

I was hoping that not only could they be in there, but you could interact with their inventory like a banker. Be able to swap things between characters if, like me, you have different characters storing different items, or one master crafter who can hand out potions and food/drink to everyone.

housing could do with a lot of love with things like this-
have characters talk with one another etc- tag on in and out like a live character select screen. this game has so much more potential than what has been shown and especially housing- housing should and could be the social centre of this game. as it is- its just storage- for crown crap- not real storage.

I love the idea . I think with all the variations of characters it might be beyond doing but if they could it would be awesome .

That would be so much better than logging in and out managing their gear and items through the bank. Excellent idea.

This is an excellent idea no doubt. It would also be nice if they let us interact with them and exchange items - since most of us use extra characters for "mules" anyway. So it might be a fair compromise since the developers don't seem to want to add extra storage to housing. This way we would at least be spared the tedious annoyance of having to constantly log in and out to manage our items on other characters.

I want this too, very much. I want my alts to be able to sit down on a chair in the house and read a book, at the very least.
It would be weird to see them standing all the time, but if they have the option to sit down, that would be wonderful.

I'd be happy just to have my pets and mounts MOVE when I'm home. My jackal is in the yard, as are my two horses. Always in the same place, idling... Let the poor things walk around.

But the coding would be confusing i guess, if you logged in with one of your Alts what would happen?

Be like crossing streams in Ghost Busters no? A huge Stay Puff world boss might appear.

I said this on day 1 of home stead. Place them sitting around or cooking or whatever. Speak to them and change toons that way. Simple stuff.

Putting your alts in your home would make them functionally mannequins which i would like. Idle animations would just be the personality chosen.

Wouldn't be difficult at all. In fact it wouldn't need any extra programming at all.

NPC's don't all work on what is called a waypoint system where they are scripted where they can or cant walk, they are restricted by their environment just like we are in real life, the AI system uses a ray casting system to detect obstacles, all objects in the game have a collision box, and all AI basically fire out an invisible beam ahead of them called a ray cast, when this intersects with a collision box it tells the AI to change its direction. It's very basic and very simple and will be in the "base" scripting added to all non player characters already.

Not really. All it would need is a variable flag and an if statement dictating if the character is hidden or spawned. Basically loading a character will change the variable flag for that character slot from 0 to 1, then the entity inside the house would check that variable flag, if it is 0 then it will spawn the characters model in the house, if it is 1 then it won't spawn the characters model in the house.

Why not, i dont own a big house but they would certainly feel more "alive" if there were other characters walking around, a bit like in skyrim where some companions and the caretake are walking around...

I would love this. I would love it even more if you could choose their emote! One of my alts would make a great bard in my home! And if you have the banker, merchant or any other utility alt (yes they are already placeable) it would be great if you could chose to have one of your alts fulfill that function instead! Honestly, that is the ONLY thing that would get me to shell out the stupid amount of cash they want for the banker and merchant!

Couldn't they create copies of your characters as sprites? Then add a line that removes your "current" character. I can't imagine that being too difficult.
