New house motifs shouldn't drop exclusively from thieving. How to incentisize thieving in morrowind

There is no reason to go back to morrowind's quest hubs after you are done questing there. The only reason to go back to morrowind now is for daily quests for the ashlander and morag tong motifs and that's all. Please add daily quests in sandrith mora for telvanni motifs, balmora for redoran motifs, and hlaalu motif quests in seyda neen. It is good that zos gives incentive to thieving but this is not the way to go with it. Increase the drop rates of furniture plans in cities and unlock all the locked doors that are locked in cities. Vivec should have an increased drop for indoril furniture, Seyda neen for hlaalu, balmora for redoran and sandrith mora for telvanni furniture. Non dunmer furniture shouldn't drop in vvardenfell too frequently to undilute the loot tables. Thieving should drop helms along with all weapon motifs (staves, bows, swords, axes, shields, belts and boot motifs so 7 motifs are from thieving and 7 are from daily quests, so motif hunters have a easier time with two activities to choose from to find motifs easier.

Three New Motifs
"The Hlaalu, Redoran, and Telvanni Motifs are now available in Vvardenfell! These three styles and their associated style items can be found by stealing from citizens of Vvardenfell - picking their pockets, stealing from their safe boxes, and looting Thieves Troves left behind by fellow members of the Thieves Guild." For patch note reference

Zos, you want us to thieve but, half your cities are blocked off and the loot table is diluted with n'wah furniture like why does breton drop in ancestor tombs for example? Increase dunmer furniture drop rates in thieving and non thieving, keep 7/14 motifs in thieving, and have house furniture and motifs drop in their appropriate cities more often. Oh and open up your cities up as half of vivec and balmora are locked

Or add them to the public dungeons, world bosses, and delve bosses. If they don't want to add more radiant quests, at least it would give a reliable way to get them.

Anything would be better than thieving. Considering the amount of npc's in the villages, and the large amount of not accessible areas, everyone and everything will be constantly stolen. Hopefully this either gets changed, or trolls don't find out that you can annoy every motif collector by going on a murder spree.

Even though any chapter can drop from any NPC, regardless of where that NPC is, there are simply too few NPCs to be robbed/killed given the number of players that will be competing for them. With quests or bosses, far more than three players can partake in the activity. At most, three players can rob an NPC, provided one player hasn't already robbed them thrice or killed them and every other NPC. The chapters drop from corpses after using the Blade of Woe so look for plenty of lifeless bodies in the near future.

    @aliyavana -- Another great idea.

Though I like ZOS's thought of trying to use the Thieves Guild skill line more (which is underused) ... this isn't the way to do it.

Definitely NOT this ... it encourages boss camping which is still an issue today in Gold Coast and Hew's Bane.

    Very much agree with OP.

There are now about fifty styles in game. They are mundane, cheap stuff and nothing "rare". I might run dailies to get motifs since there is at least something else to do like killing worldbosses or clear a delve. With decent droprates from daily rewards collecting full motif set is at least somewhat enjoyable activity.

By now we can see that Wardenfell popularity has fallen dramatically. I cut my subscriptions because there were nothing left to do. ZOS charged a very high price from Morrowind but invested nothing to new PvE systems. This new DLC continues it. I see no reason to resub for low RNG activity, what the thieving is. Low RNG is outdated and a way to lose money.

Put new full motif books also on sale from Rolis. I am a crafter and motifs are for crafters. I would rather collect 300 vouchers (tokens!) than run 300 circles around Wardenfell - and still fail to have a book. I am also willing to do 30 dailies for a motif, they are okay.

Also add to Rolis a second purple/blue document set to drop the new furniture plans. Of all the about thousand of old plans i have them all. Of all the hundreds of new plans i have maybe five? Because there is no systematical way for crafters to collect these new plans, they ended too to ignored content.

Ok after 3 hours of pickpocketing / using blade of woe I had 22 motif pages drop, 6 of which were double ups. They do seem to drop from any npc you can kill/pickpocket, I travelled to most areas of the map and the pages dropped. The style materials seem to also drop on a fairly regular basis though as fragments though very rarely as complete style component.

Profess to not being the fastest when it comes to pickpocketing so others will no doubt do better, though I do see a problem as others have mentioned with so few npc's and many who wish to farm them, I for see many empty pockets. Being an oceanic player this may not be quite so bad for myself.

I found it very strange that all 3 new motifs were from the same source.

I expected to see: World Boss, Delve Boss, and Trial lol

I love thieving and pickpocketing, but I don't think all 3 of these motifs should be coming from the same place. Please consider moving two of them to another source (such as World Boss drops and Delve Boss drops)

Having motifs drop on bosses failed miserably in Gold Coast and Hew's Bane ... due to the rampant boss camping. So, it's not a viable option.

Having them drop in chests or coffers (such as world boss daily reward coffers or trial boss final chest) has worked in the past and is a possibility.

Ill just quote my post from another thread:

for exemple swords redoran becomes like rarest of them, and u pickpocked one fromm something, you all, happy, u make mistake, get bounty, get caught, lose the motif

sure it will be a mess first days, bbut atleast it makes pickpocketing more excited

Nah, it would be more like:

Youre sneaking around npc, trying to get the best chance to pickpocket and then... Someone kills that npc with blade of woe.

    Or:

Youre sneaking around npcs, but they all are <Empty>.

    Or:

Youre sneaking in someones house. Oh look, there's a chest over here!.. Already unlocked. :(

    Or:

Oh look! A thieves throve... WIth 1 lockpick.

Thing is, this type of farming is pitting players against each other and encourages scummy behavior. Just like with the chests, people just dont care about looting them, they open them and leave. Or steal them from someone who is already fightng mobs that were guarding the chest.
Farming world boss quests can be a mess, but at least in encourages cooperation and sharing. This... Well, if you already tried to farm Buyoant motif, you know what kind of behavior it encourages. People are very salty, they'd steal chest, not fully loot them, theyd call you names if they see youre also farming, etc.

Agree, @aliyavana, and there's still plenty of time to fix this issue.

If no changes are forthcoming from ZOS then at least they were warned ahead of time ... because there will surely be forum threads of players frustrated with other players' behavior.

    • Reduced the drop rate of House Redoran, House Hlaalu and House Telvanni motif pages and style items.

    * By the way, I have two (2) master thief characters and two other characters that are high level in the Thieves Guild line. Having the capacity to loot these items isn't the issue for me ... it's the potential for other player toxicity that is.

Drop rate nerfed, guess it wasn't enough of a time sink with the drop rate the way it was.

Why I don't get is: why thieving? What does thieving have to do with the Great Houses? This would make sense for the TG and Outlaw motifs, but to put the Great House motifs behind stealing only is just silly.

@ZOS_GinaBruno As a player who has all the thieving achievements I have spent enough time seeing how player toxicity can evolve into in thieving activities. its one of the activities that brings out the worst in people and I hope you consider adding dailies to breathe some new life into the chapter and make a few changes to thieving in morrowind like Increasing the drop rates of furniture plans in cities and decrease the drop chance of non morrowind furnishings and unlock all the locked doors that are locked in cities to loot from.

I have never had a Trinimac or Ancient Orc drop for me. To me, that's rare.

I do have fun in game, but I am not a min-maxer or a super-trader, so if I have 5-15k (across all my characters) it's a big deal. So pretty much I can't afford them either.

If they are so common, please feel free to give them away in zone (and yes, I'd certainly wave my hand, but I mean in general, not just to any one person/campaign/server).

Partly I say that because the only reason why I have "Celestial gloves" is that somebody was kind enough to "wave it around in chat" and sent it to me.

There are a lot of really nice people in game. I'm grateful for that.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis
