Weird detail in the free Crown Crate event

Did anyone else notice that you have to log in between the 5th and the 9th, up to a max of 5, but the crates themselves you do not get until the 17th? I don't know why they would wait till the 17th to give the free crates away....it kinda takes the wind out of the sails for this event :/

Because people in the free trial of ESO+ will only receive the crater IF they actually subscribe after the trial period.

So they probably just made it so the system will record if you log and then after the event is over just checks if you have a paid subscription active to send the crates for everyone.

You have misread this thread, I did not say I wanted them immediately, and it isn't about instant gratification. Why rush to judgement because I want a dialogue about a decision Zos made?

No rush to judgment -- I was stating an opinion, nothing more. I was prompted by your quote above. Kind of sounds (to me) like you want it "now".

I would imagine that they don't have any tool currently built to just automatically send the crates to your account based on the requirement to earn them.

Guessing someone is going to have to parse login logs, thus the delay in sending.

This ^^^^ and it gives a bit of time to choose to subscribe. Just a guess.

    No.

If you subscribe during the trial, you will receive a crate for each day you are subscribed during the trial.
    There is no retroactive reward.

The week delay is to compile lists and then award everything at once instead of in waves.

I find it to be bad and a waste of money to subscribe for ESO+, especially since that the non-DLC related prices on the crown store is completely ripping you off (personally am regretting buying crowns for mere items right now, that's my stupid fault), and ESO+ isn't worth paying for since you're paying more for really nothing at all except for convenience things...

So, I am really annoyed at this entire event as I think it is a plan to get people addicted to the convenience of having ESO+...

Yes -- I believe so as well. It's kind of obvious; once people see how convenient the crafting bag is and their bonus to xp...I'll bet they will convert many to becoming ESO+.

As an ESO+ subscriber (on two accounts mind you), to me I absolutely love it and recommend it to anyone playing be they veterans or new to the game. The benefits (to me, my opinion) are well worth the monthly subscription. Heck $30 is a fill up at the gas station to me...to me a month's worth of entertainment convenience is worth it.

17th is a Monday so will probably happen same time as maintenance?

In retrospect, I guess I'm just not their target demographic for this event. I'm a long time subber, this feels more aimed to excite new people about the crown store I suppose. I am not complaining about this, please don't misunderstand.

Thing is. Convenience isn't worth it for a lot of people, including myself.

For example, I hate the crafting bag and turned it off. Why? Because I don't use all of the crafting skills and I don't keep all of the crafting materials. A lot of materials that I don't use, I just sell to increase my profits. On top of it, the bank offers literally the same kind of convenience that the crafting bag does except for two things: It isn't infinity and it isn't automatic. You have to go to a bank to store it, and to me... That's fine. Especially since crafting materials don't take up too much space.

The other convenience is about freely using the DLCs without needing to buy them, which sounds like a good idea. The problem is that you could literally just spend like 40 dollars to instantly own most of the DLCs (the major ones really, discounting Morrowind) and have them permaly. 40 dollars in ESO+ membership may give you three months, and three months of free crowns is 4,500 crowns... The DLC package is 5,500 crowns which is 40 dollars. It is literally cheaper to buy the DLCS directly than using the free monthly crowns, or buy anything on the crown store.

This means, the only good use to having ESO+ is literally the convenience of having it and the crafting bag. Everything else is literally better if you just buy it directly.

I think ESO+ makes good sense for players like myself. I only play one game at a time (currently ESO) and play my chosen game every day. So I feel like I get my money's worth. For those who play many games and/or might go weeks in between ESO sessions it seems like it would make less sense.

I think more subscribers is probably good for the game so I'm happy enough to see an event that encourages folks to try it. As an existing subscriber, I also very much appreciate the 'loyalty reward' aspect of giving something to existing subscribers.

They have to take off their socks to do counting. EPA rules mandate that only so many employees can do this at one time.

Dual targeting, first is to get more to use eso+, remember the inventory mini game, if not stuck after the 5 days you pay for one month to get the crates and now its very hard to back out.
Guess this is part of the dlc for free, you want to do the dlc in one month so you sub for an month and is stuck
Second its to get more crown crate sales.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It's to preemptively cut off any chance of exploiting/gaming of the system to get free crates. Simple as that.

    anyway

the real reason will be because they cant seperate free trial eso from paid eso
they cant give the boxes until the free eso trial is over and probably a server reboot as well

My guess is that they want to see the final stats after the event ends and compute the drop tables based on that for the free crates. I'd think it will be a different drop rate associated to the most expensive stuff - they want to tease you into buying crates, not giving you all you would want for free. :)

    I'm going for 5!

The most likely reason for the delay to the 17th is to protect against bugs causing exploits. It gives them time to go over the data and make sure there are no anomalies before giving out the crates. Imagine going live only to find out everyone that logs in gets all five crates deposited into their account each time they log in and now everyone is riding around on their new apex mounts (with herds off nix hounds everywhere!). A delayed response allows them to nullify the event if a serious bug crops up and to not have to issue any more crates then what they intended. Given their history, I'd say that is a smart move on their part and an indication they are starting to learn from past mistakes.

Just a guess, but the 17th is a maintenance day one week after the event ends. It gives them 1 week to run whatever script they need to against the database.

This post shows a conspicuous lack of knowledge about how log-in rewards are typically done in the industry - which is, in fact, immediate upon log-in during the reward period.

This delay is an unusual way to do it and would make anyone who has ever seen log-in rewards before wonder why they're doing it this way.

What's the big deal about waiting a week - will you be finished with the game by then?

Not sure what would happen if you are currently a subscriber but it expires between the 10th and 16th and you planned not to renew. I assume the fact that you were a subscriber during the event means you would get the crates anyway.
