the skin does darken it, but only once it's actually on...I had a hard time judging it on my redguard vampire initially, but decided to take the plunge anyhow...I was pleasantly surprised...the actual skin is a black/purple pattern, not quite smooth, with glowing purple eyes. So, not bad.
