Well first you would need to find what that toon will be used for. PvE or PvP. But heavy is most defiantly not for sustain.

Go 5 light and 1 medium 1 heavy. Just to level the other 2 Armour trees. Or go full light.

If you feel you die easily put Stat points in health, otherwise magicka.
Should be good starting point, remember to update your gear to your lvl if you keep some for the set bonus a longer time, Armour stats get worse as you get higher lvl from them.

Just equip dropped gear right now. Wait till you are champ level 160 before you take gear serious at all...

Figure out crafting and work on getting everything unlocked so that when you get to 160, you can craft and go.

Also focus on leveling, finding shards

Honestly, at level 5 pve, you don't really need any other advice than that for now.

I was an all light for MAG, but moved to a hvy chest for a little more protection. Educate me... It doesn't seem like the bonuses alone for wearing of a single piece of heavy will even make a difference... meanwhile I think light gives 3% per-piece reduced cost, and 4% recovery per piece... that's an additional 6% cost reduction and 8% recovery if you go all light. You can always use the Healing ward to add survivability to a magblade.

I fail to see how the passives from MEDIUM (armor value alone is weak) would really help a magblade versus just going all light for the xtra passive percents?

While we're at it, under HEAVY, is IMMOVABLE and it's morphs worth it for a STAMBLADE for dmg mitigation?

Concerning 1heavy or 1 medium, the passive you get from the Armour skill lines alone are not worthless, though what you get from 7 light is probably better in pvp I go full medium for my stamblade for example. the real reason is for the undaunted passive skills you unlock later in the game when you do dungeons.

On immovable I am not sure why someone would want to use it other then pvp if there are alot of cc players around.

Right now i have yet to find any light armor drops, for some reason it wont show light armor as a skill in my skill line but my light armor is level 7... i want the magicka perks from it but i dont see the skill line in menu, i have 1 light armor piece, my belt. Chest and legs are medium boots and helm are heavy , just want more light and the actual skill line to show uo now

Put on 3 pieces of light armor to unlock the skill line and see it's skills/passives.

Zos do you see this? We told you hiding skill lines was an unnecessary change.

My nightblade runs x5 julianos (body), kena shoulder and helm. Willpower jewlery (spell damage enchants) with flame staff and maelstrom resto staff.
    as well Argonian.

My nightblade can sustain pretty well, just gotta use x2 kena at certain times. I also swap to skoria at times.

Oh Amex, No idea what any of that is, but sounds cool, and argonian was my first choice but went all in on lifesteal theme no matter how booboo red diamond is, it will add up. Lol and thanks max , just gotta find 2 more light armor pieces.

Your character will wear a mix of light and heavy through their life...level both. Most magblades go 5 light and 2 heavy. I'd recommend starting this way...spend on passives in light, but only the first three in heavy (some armor passives only work when five pieces are equipped).

More important than armor weight is gear sets. Sets add buffs the more pieces you wear. At this point in the game, start learning a little bit about how these work and paying attention to what pieces you equips do. Either learn by doing, or read some guides at ESO Academy or some place.

You might start some trait research in light and heavy. If you can find them (guildies are a good source), research divines, infused and training first. Two sets...Magnus gift and Seducer...are 3 and 4 trait sets. You can research to the ability to craft these sets in less than a week. It's a good investment...being able to craft these and wearing sets will really boost your power.

But it's not imperative...there's no rush...take your time and learn the game.

Wizards Riposte + Transmutation makes you almost as tanky as an HA armor user, at least from what I´ve Heard from some experienced people playing nightblade in PvP.

Kinda sorta, so far its treating me well. I still need the light armor, and a vampire bite. But im having fun :) Using 1h/s for.the armor/defense, siphoning for dmg / sustain , and plan to put resto staff on 2nd bar once i get there. My imperial racials will give me more health/lifesteal and stamina for some 1h/s support. ITS AWESOMEEEEE <3 Shadowknight is what im going for... so far put all my points into magicka.

If you do go light armor, look into using damage shields. Those will keep you alive. On a side note, there used to be a meta of Heavy armor magblades - look up Sap Tank or @Gilliamtherogue. His main is a magblade, and he has excellent tips for new players.
