possible new player. with questions

ibervangb16_ESO
I have been thinking about getting the game (which proberly, won't be until the next month, if i decide to get it). But i have some questions, before i get it.

1. How do i get the most out of my money. Do I just by the game and sub. Or should I wait with subbing. Or what should I do?

2. On the website, it says one thing about what you get in the digital collector’s edition. But if I follow this link:
https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/store/product/eso_morrowind_edition_ce?_ga=2.95686421.820762891.1497393333-938748485.1496848965

More stuff is listed. What is correct?

EXCLUSIVE WARDEN COSTUME
DWARVEN WAR DOG PET
TREASURE MAPS
DWARVEN CROWN CRATE
EXPERIENCE SCROLLS
ARMORED WAR HORSE
DWARVEN SPIDER PET
MORAG TONG CONVERTER
GREY WAR BEAR
CHARACTER EMOTES

And on steam, it is also different:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/582880/The_Elder_Scrolls_Online__Morrowind/
COLLECTOR'S EDITION GREY WAR BEAR – Get an exclusive grey War Bear to fight by your side while playing as a Warden.
ARMORED WAR HORSE – Charge into battle atop this steed clad in armor fashioned with ancient Dwarven plate.
DWARVEN SPIDER PET – Your personal Dwarven Spider is ready for your adventure through Vvardenfell. Dwarven oil not included.
MORAG TONG CONVERTER – Flaunt your commitment to the assassins by customizing your gear with the distinct style of the Morag Tong.
CHARACTER EMOTES – Celebrate your victory in the battlegrounds with this bundle of exclusive emotes.

Their own has this listed:
COLLECTOR'S EDITION GREY BEAR,
ARMORED WAR HORSE
DWARVEN SPIDER PET
MORAG TONG ARMOR CONVERTER
CHARACTER EMOTES

3. I saw in an old video, that mounts costs a lot, and you don’t get much gold, from loot. This is part of the reason that I’m interested in the collector’s edition. But is it still true? And the treasure maps do sound interesting. I assume the pets are cosmetic, so not important. As I would be new to the game, I won’t be rushing with leveling, as I want to experience the game, and explore, so experience scrolls won’t be important to begin with. Etc.

4. Is the server full pvp?

5. I saw a video (a very old one) that said, it was kind of pointless to do quest, with other players, as the npc might disappear after the first person, has interacted with it. Is it still like this? (It is properly not important, as I would probably play alone. But it is nice to be able to play with others).

6. I saw a video, where they said, there might be issues for new players, with the “app” or updating the game. Is this still going on?

Feel free to add any information a possible new player should know. Or a new player. I have see videos for guides on creating chars, and other stuff. But I can’t remember a lot of what they have said. But I have saved some of them. But feel free to link some

Not to side track from your questions, but I find it interesting that they no longer require a game purchase and invitation to access the forums anymore.

    1. How do i get the most out of my money. Do I just by the game and sub. Or should I wait with subbing. Or what should I do?

That depends entirely on what is more valuable to you and how often you will be playing, what your focuses are. If you're a quester and crafter, it is very much worth the sub for the craftbag alone.

    2. On the website, it says one thing about what you get in the digital collector’s edition....

The one with 'more items listed' was for pre-ordering, since you can no longer pre-order as Morrowind is now live, you will not get as many goodies.

    3. I saw in an old video, that mounts costs a lot, and you don’t get much gold, from loot.

A mount costs 10k gold, unless you want a different color then it is 42.5k. There is no difference aside from color. 10k gold can be earned in just about 2 hours at most from stealing items and fencing them. Gold is not difficult at all to acquire.

    4. Is the server full pvp?

PvP is done in Cyrodiil, Imperial City and Battlegrounds. If you're not in one of these three places, it's PvE. You must queue to get into Cyrodiil or the Battlegrounds, and Imperial City is accessed only while in Cyrodiil. But you can duel other players, if they accept a challenge in the PvE zones.

    5. I saw a video (a very old one) that said, it was kind of pointless to do quest...

That is no longer the case, and likely a video from near launch when it was difficult to complete many quests. Obviously, if it still were the case after 3 years, no one would be playing the game.

    6. I saw a video, where they said, there might be issues for new players, with the “app” or updating the game. Is this still going on?

Not sure what 'app' you're referring to, but there's no issues updating the game or even reinstalling the game on new computers.

    1. If you are a new player I would just play the base game for now as there is a lot of content already, unless you want to do specific quests like Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild then a sub would hurt

    2. If you buy the CE from the link you provided ( not the Steam version ) then YES you will get all the things listed on the page, Dunno why Steam is different, EDIT Was a pre-order bonus so you will get less

    3. I believe teh cheapest mount is 15k gold and goes upto 42k but if you buy the CE you get a FREE mount or you can buy the Imperial Edition ( if they still do that ) you can get a mount for 1 gold
The treasure maps are ok ( imo, I got jack from a max level character ) Yes pets are cosmetic except the Warden and Sorc pets that you can use to fight along side you

    4. No, You can only PvP inside PvP zones, Cyrodiil/Imperial City BUT you can Duel people in the PvE zones but its a rare site these days

    5. I'm not sure about this but questing with a buddy will give you 2x the XP when completing quests so its always a bonus

    6. No idea what this means, should be fine

You can always check out Deltia's video for a levelling guide, as they changed how you unlock weapon skills etc so you might get a bit lost

Let me just start by saying i lobe this game. I have been olaying since console release recently made the switch to pc and this isnthe only game i play. For me its all about pvp since i have done all the questing and leveling already. I think its a good idea nt to rush your first play through but keep in mind what it is you olan on doing when you do reach max level weither that be pvp, pve or rp. ( with catch up mechanics and non cp pvp you wont be super far behinde forever)

For your first question subbing wont really add that much for new players but if you sub you get crowns and woth crowns you can buy a mount.

The digital collectors editions and all that seem to come with alot of stuff but alot if not most of it is cosmetic fluff. The most usefull things are the mounts, but if you sub you can et one anyway. Or buy one with gold they are like 10k alittle pricey for a new player. (Idk if all that made sense sorry its early.)

Pvp is only done in cryodiil and you have to be level 20 to enter. So basically you will only pvp if you enter the pvp area and you have to wue for it so you wont accidently do it.

That video was old questing is well worth doing. Mobs soawn fast and wuest givers are a olenty so forget that video.

There are alot of updates and patches your first time downloading it is going to take awhile. Its a big game.

I hope i helped at least alittle.

Something i would add is train your mount everyday. Join a leveling guild that says they help newbies and just take your time and enjoy the game for what it is. There is alot of content and alot of stuff in the game that the game never explains so you either have to figure it out yourself or get help from vet players or join a helpful guild.

The first thing to note: this game has had a LOT of updates and overhauls since launch. So the older the video you're referencing, the less likely it is to be accurate anymore. It's a bit of a sting in this community that some of the most popular videos about ESO rant about problems that don't exist anymore.

    Anyway, as to your questions:

    1. Personally, I love the sub. The inventory management perks are great, and I enjoy cosmetic features like being able to dye costumes. That said, other people may not agree. The nice thing is that you can start a ESO+ sub up at any time, otherwise it's free to play after the initial purchase. So, for now, as a new player, just buy the game without a sub. Once you've played it for a little bit, you can decide what's best for you.

    2. The most reliable list of what's included in each edition is available here: https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/store, since it's the game's official website. At this point, there are like six versions of this game you can pick from, so read what's included in each carefully!

    3. For a new player, yeah, a bit. You can buy a mount in-game, though it can be hard to save up for it when you're first starting out. Loot scales to your level, so when you're low level, yeah, it might take a while to afford the cheap brown horse. But as you level up, loot becomes more valuable, and you also learn ways to make money in game, so money becomes a lot easier to come by. There are some people who are sitting on mountains of gold and have no idea what to do with it.

Also, if you go through the Crown Store (the in-game cash shop) a cheap guar mount is something like $8. So don't break your bank worrying about getting a mount.

    4. There are no PvP or PvE servers. Instead, the way the game handles it is to have a full PvP zone (Cyrodiil) and group PvP instances called Battlegrounds. Everything else is PvE.

    5. Sounds like the instancing issues that were common right after launch. Questing is a lot more stable now, so no, you should not have a problem with this. That's not to say that the game is without bugs, as a brief perusal of the forums should very well show you... just that the big game-breaking ones like that one have since been patched out. XD

    6. Not sure what that one's talking about. Sounds like another of the early game bugs, or one that doesn't happen to many people. I've heard of some people having issues if they buy it through steam, which is really just an argument to buy the game directly through the website (what I linked earlier) than through steam, because when steam has service issues, that can mean being locked out of your game.

Since it sounds like you like videos, the best set of guides I can point you toward is Miss Bizz. She keeps things newbie-friendly and upbeat... and has the bonus of being active on the community here as @MissBizz, in case you have any questions. ;)

    1) Just buy the game to start. I assume by sub you mean ESO+? I like it and find it useful but a lot of people don't and if the game ends up not being for you then there's no point in having it

    2) I believe the pack with the Dwarven Crown crate and such was for if you pre ordered the content. Buying the collector's edition now gives you the smaller list of things.

    3) Mounts are pricey for a new character but after awhile you'll have enough gold where they'd be considered pretty cheap. They are nice to have at the start of the game though so getting one in your purchase would be helpful.

No there's not too much gold in loot though it does add up after awhile. Good gold in the game comes from joining a trading guild and selling things people want.

The treasure maps will disappoint you most likely. You have a chance of getting a good drop from them but unless your character is high enough level to equip max level gear, you'll very soon out level anything from treasure chests and it wont sell in a guild store because it's too low of level. I saved all mine till I was max level and had a big treasure hunt day. Sounds fun...it wasn't.

    4) Not quite sure what you mean. There are PvP campaigns you can join that take place in a certain area, Battlegrounds which have their own areas, and you can duel pretty much anywhere on the map. For the most part PvP and PvE are kept separate with a few instances that are both. Both are fun and offer different aspects of the game.

    5) Most main story and alliance war storyline quests are solo. Some can be run with others but don't really function cooperatively. Random side quests can usually be done with a friend or small group and almost all end game content is geared towards a group.

    6) You shouldn't really have any issues with updates or anything like that. There's still a lot of bugs and such in the game but for the most part actually setting it up and playing isn't much a problem.

If you've played MMOs before or even if you haven't and enjoy RPGs and/or the Elder Scrolls universe then I'd recommend giving it a go. There's tons and tons of stuff to do for new players right now and if you take the time to enjoy the stories, you'll have 100's of hours worth of fun coming your way. Utilize the forums if you get it and have questions. There's loads of good info and helpful people. Also, loads of misinformation and ***holes, but that's life. Hope this helps

Funny story, that video was going to be up Sunday but I didn't have time to finish it.. but will be soon! lol

    1. Entirely up to you. I find the perks of subbing definitely worth the money.

    2. Reference to the person I quoted. You can buy a cheap starter pack in the crown store (in game, you must first buy crowns) for 1000 crowns. Works out to like $10 american I think.

    3. The cheapest in game mount is 10k gold. When the game started we didn't have stealing and such, so it was harder to make gold. Definitely easier to make gold now. (The 10k mount is no different than the more expensive mounts. The ONLY difference is looks)

    4. No

    5. Old videos are bad. Zos went through the game and fixed like 99% of this. There is the ODD quest where you might end up slit from your friend for a minimal time. The "main story" of the base game with the prophet is solo, as is the mage's guild quest line though.

    6. Pretty sure it's not an issue anymore.

Just get the base game first because you may find after a month or so playing that the game isn't for you. If you are still playing after a few months and are wanting to craft then I would recommend subbing.

This game has a loooooooooot of content, mechanics and things to do outside of regular questing, so much so it can be overwhelming for new players. Honestly the base game would be a good starting point, hell I'm like 600 hours in and still haven't explored all the base areas. The basic horse which is still functionally the same as the others costs 10k which isn't a lot of gold.

I played during the pre-release betas and still had my forum account long after the game was released. I rarely posted, but I did read the forum a lot (mainly to get info and feedback on updates, waiting for them to fix the things that put me off buying originally). Oddly enough my forum account got deactivated the day after I bought the game. Probably because I was posting more at that point. But I was able to get it reactivated when my copy arrived and I registered it.

    Anyway, questions:

    1. How do i get the most out of my money. Do I just by the game and sub. Or should I wait with subbing. Or what should I do?

Opinions on this vary. Some people think the game is unplayable without ESO+, others think it's a total waste of money and most people probably fall somewhere in between.

For what it's worth I've been playing for just over 2 years and I've subscribed for a grand total of 2 months - both times I got it mainly so I could dye my costumes (one-piece outfits bought from the crown store, you can only dye them if you're a subscriber or by buying dye stamps which only allow you to use pre-set colours). The crafting bag is also useful - it stores an infinite amount of crafting materials without them taking up any room in your inventory. But I never minded having them in my inventory/bank either because I don't have much else to store there. I have no interest in the other ESO+ benefits, crowns are cheaper if you buy the 5,500 crown packs than the 1,500 pack/sub, and buying the DLC out-right is also cheaper than subscribing to get access to it.

I'd suggest starting off without it and see how you get on - if you find yourself wanting one or more of the benefits maybe try it for a month and then go back, and if you decide you prefer playing with the sub benefits then you could keep subscribing.

    2. On the website, it says one thing about what you get in the digital collector’s edition. But if I follow this link more stuff is listed. What is correct?

I'm not sure. Some of that was advertised as pre-order bonuses, but now it seems it's all included in the collectors edition, but maybe only if you buy directly from ZOS. I'm confused too so I'll let someone else answer this one.

    4. Etc.

The video you saw is probably from back in the very 1st year of the game. Back then there were 4 mounts you could buy with gold - a basic one for 10,000g (not a huge amount of money but new players would still have to save up to get it) and 3 more expensive ones which had better stats - which meant many people would avoid buying the basic one and save up longer to get them. Also if you bought a mount only that 1 character had it - so if you had 4 characters you had to buy 4 mounts.

That made the horse which came with the special edition - which cost 1g - very desirable.

But now all mounts have identical stats, and they're account wide so once you buy one all your characters can use it. You can still get the basic horse (and the more expensive ones) with gold or you can buy a whole variety of mounts in the crown store. I think many of them are over-priced for what they are, but I have bought some. You can also get horses with various versions of the game - the armored one is exclusive to the Morrowind collectors edition and the white one is exclusive to the Imperial Upgrade, I think the palomino that comes with the Gold Edition can be bought in the crown store however.

Basically you have far more options to get mounts now so getting one with a special edition is not important, but if you want that specific one or want the other bonuses it's not a bad choice.

    4. Is the server full pvp?

No. There is a dedicated PvP zone you can go for from level 10 onwards, and small arenas called Battlegrounds for team fights. But outside of that the only way anyone can attack you is by sending you a duel invite which you need to accept before the fight will start. You can refuse any duel you like, and there is an option to disable invites.

PvP - all forms - only allows other players to kill you. They can never take any of your items even if they defeat you, and you don't lose any XP or items or anything when you die.

    5. I saw a video (a very old one) that said, it was kind of pointless to do quest, with other players, as the npc might disappear after the first person, has interacted with it. Is it still like this? (It is properly not important, as I would probably play alone. But it is nice to be able to play with others).

I'm pretty sure they've fixed this now.

    6. I saw a video, where they said, there might be issues for new players, with the “app” or updating the game. Is this still going on?

Occasionally after an update there can be problems with the launcher - which can affect anyone, not just new players. But other than that there's no problem.

    One other thing:

You might already know this but if not it might be useful to know: following an update called One Tamriel the entire game is level scaled. If you follow the storyline it will still lead you through zones in a set order and introduce you to the people and the area as you're going along (if you pay attention to the text that is), but it means you don't have to follow it or wait to level up - if you decide you want to go somewhere different you can simply go.

    Never buy a DLC.

2 month sub and you can decide what to buy after.

    Cheers!

    No Sub option:
    1. Buy Gold Edition on sale ($22~$24). Comes with DLC's that you'll want down the road if you decide to continue playing the game.
    2. Don't buy Morrowind expansion upgrade until it's on sale. It's more like DLC and completely optional.
    3. Create a guild and use guild bank as your storage
    4. Crown (ingame currency) does go on sale. Buy enough for whatever you need and then some during this time, or don't buy any!

    Sub option:
    1. Buy base game on sale ($8~$10). Base game is really all you need even for end game.
    2. Don't buy Morrowind expansion upgrade until it's on sale. It's more like DLC and completely optional.
    3. Crown (ingame currency) does go on sale. Buy enough for whatever you need and then some during this time, or don't buy any!

Check out final fantasy instead. Wait until eso is 'stable'. Atm everything is up in flames.

Developers have no direction for this game

comstant moneygrab gambling boxes, crown store isnt evem worth while anymore.

Nonstop bugs that rarely, if ever get fixed

    Toxic community

Endgame content is often a grindfest to get gear to run said content, which changes every patch due to pidgeon holing created by the after math of nerf after nerf after nerf.

The most abysmal drop system I have ever seen in a video game. Seriously there isn't even a token/voucher system to help you obtain your rewards.

Seriously consider giving someone else a shot. If I hadn't already invested so much time and money into this game I doubt I'd be playimg it myself. You want an honest review? If I had a do-over I would have done something else with my time.

It annoys me alot, that there is different information, about what one gets in the Digital Collector's Edition. Especialy when part of the content, is some of the stuff i want. It dosen't give much confident in the game. They haven't even updated the FAQ, that they link to, for this version of the game. Only the original/imperial version. They seem to be slacking. That they can't keep this information correct. And i would be mad if i bought it, assuming i got the big list, and I didn't. And im certain Zenimax would give a rats ass about it. A shame you can't get an answer from the developers.

How is the game for a casual person?
I mostly just want to level, craft a bit. explore, questing, rob npc's etc. How is the game in that direction?
Some games are more for hardcore people. And some have focused alot in 1 aspect
