Lag and rubber banding since day of Morrowind release

Hi everyone, I really hope somoene can help.

Since Morrowind release day my game has had terrible lag and rubber banding. I have never had any of these issues before and have been playing for around 4 months. (and I pre ordered Morrowind and played that without issue before release day too)

Since discovering the lag/rubber banding issue I have.

Run a complete repair
Turned off ALL of my add ons
Installed the latest Nvidia driver.
Just to diagnose the issue set the graphic detail to minimum.

None of these solved the issue.

Further info:

I recently convinced my wife to start playing (before Morrowind release) and copied my full ESO directory to an external disc then to her machine (so she didnt have to download it and so she would have all my mod files we also copied the 'users/machine/document' settings over too.

Since discovering the lag/rubber banding I used THAT backup copy and re-copied it to my machine (after a full delete and reboot) - Remember this was WORKING before Morrowind release day. Obviously it updated because it would have been missing the release day patch. And on loading the same issue occurs.

Conclusion:

There is no reason for this other than the patch has broken something on my PC.

Reasoning... I do nothing else on my PC these days other than play ESO. I turned it off the night before the release day and everything was fine. I turned it back on, and loaded ESO the day of release and the problem started.

NOTHING has changed on my PC (although now I have a new gfx driver of course but that was installed on the day of this post after having the issue for days.)

I thought the initial problem was server load. I figured Morrowind Release may be like that so I stayed away for a few days to let the dust settle etc. When I returned today (Saturday 10th) the problem was the same and I went through the above.

I am convinced that the patch has done this, allthough there dont seem to be many posts like mine... None in fact.

Anyone have any ideas?

Machine Spec:

Windows 10 Pro
I7-4790k @ 4.00Ghz
32GB Ram
Nvidia 970

Appreciated.

I have now also blocked IP addresses as per this thread:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/312939/lag-random-disconnects-fixed-pc-na#latest

This has also failed to solve the issue.

Blocking IP addresses is only going to be effective if there is a problem at the ZOS datacenter with a specific route into the megaserver. It is not a permanent fix because this can be "fixing" temporary issues.

Just reporting the things I have tried is all.

I am desperate, clutching at straws.. The game is completely unplayable.

    Well...

It has been forever since I last had a rubber band while I the game. I expect that this is caused by the client and the server disagreeing as to where the character is and what has happened over the last several seconds. This could be due to the fact that the server is unable to keep up, or that the client is not providing accurate and timely information to the server about what you are doing.

Latency and Lag are issues where there is a delay between what you are doing, or what is happening in the game, and you seeing it.

Probably not saying anything that is brilliantly informative.

Server load is not a bad guess, if the server was having trouble turning around your requests and processing input from your client. These things tend to be transient, though. It might happen at certain times, but not at other times. I honestly do not think that ESO has a systemic server overload problem, meaning that there should be times when no lag and no rubber banding happen.

Since you are on PC, what is the "latency" being reported by the game. There is a setting under Interface, at the bottom, in the Performance section, to turn on the Latency indicator, which puts a little box on the screen that constantly reports the current latency.

    Also, what Megaserver?

Im on the EU Megaserver and my ping is 58ms.

Like I said, there is NO reason for this to be happening. Nothing has changed on my PC that ran it perfectly for 4 months.

The ONLY change was the patch on release. It has to be that!

Have submitted a ticket but not holding my breath

And yes, I'm aware how lag is and how it works. I started playing MMO's with Everquest 1 in 1997, I am what you could call an 'old hand' at almost every nuance that online games have.

Thats why I'm here, in the hope that someone may have had the same problem and stumbled upon a solution.

Thanks for your time Richter, appreciated.

Been having this problem too, and it has been horrific. Since the day morrowind hit, the game has been nearly unplayable, in spite of a steady internet connection and no problems whatsoever in any of the other online games I play. Booting up one of them, and then playing ESO immediately afterward, is like night and day. Constant rubber banding and freezing for 10-15 seconds only to have a blur of activity in a half second while the game "catches up" (when it doesn't just boot me outright and force me to immediately log back in) have tried my patience to the breaking point. Tech support has given the usual non-helpful suggestions, and the tacit accusations that it's my internet, despite all the tests I've run and the comparisons made.

So.. yeah, long story short, I've dropped my ESO subscription and am just taking a break from the game until and if this problem with their megaservers is fixed. I have yet to see them even acknowledge that there might be a problem on their end, however, so I'm not holding my breath.

Yep, the 'catching up' is exactly what mine does too. I dont actually get kicked but everything else we are suffering is identical.

I am on to support now and their first suggestion is opening ports on the router!! Maybe they didnt notice the part in my mail to them where I explained my wife was on the same connection without any issues!

I'll see what comes of it, and if I find anything useful I will post it here for anyone else suffering.

Thanks for your time to actually say something ghostwalker, I appreciate that.

I had big issues with rubberbanding myself and next to updating graphic card driver, and java (maybe give it a try ?), I found increasing LUA in the user.setting.txt files helped most.

Unfortunatelly the later isn't possible anymore and beeing close to unplayable FPS/latency since morrowind patch, I surely would love ZOS to either increase this setting for everyone (or let us fimble around with it individually, like before the patch).

Try updating java and good luck !

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

Honestly, even though it's getting me killed a lot in Cyrodiil, I'm finding it hilariously entertaining that I rubberband right into an Incap Strike out of the blue. It's like playing the game backwards with weirdness.

Uhm. I don't think that ESO uses Java. I can use some more of it this morning, but no, I think ESO does not need it.

LUA memory is no longer something we need to configure. The game does it for us, now. You can remove any addons that you have that manage this, and you no longer need to set that line in the INI file.

I had similar problems along with random disconnects, no error provided, a few months ago largely during the anniversary event. I tried all the 'usual' recommended stuff from the forums and concluded the shadercache.cooked file in My Documents/ESO/Live was the problem, as after deleting it my problems usually eased up or stopped. I hadn't had any more problems till Morrowind's launch, now the problem is back and worse than ever. I'm now thinking that it was a coincidence that deleting that file helped, and it's largely just a server problem.

I haven't checked my PS4 connection to ESO recently, but none of my other internet services are interrupted during the lag/DCs. My ISP is finicky some days, but this problem is ONLY isolated to ESO, no other games, and only during peak hours. It HAS to be a load problem, it's the only logical conclusion. The only thing to do is wait it out.

Hey all, glad to know I'm not alone with this problem.. Hopefully more people can add their own problems to this thread!

I've been in touch with support... Which frankly might as well be automated.

    Flush your DNS,

Turn your router on and off...

It really is a joke, considering I carefully listed everything I'd already tried and then they seem to completely ignore your replies and reply in their own way regardless.

@Alchemical I don't know the shadercache.cooked solutions.. Would you elaborate please?

The servers are currently down while I type this, I am hoping that this patch may well just fix what the last one broke... Hope springs eternal right??
I will continue to try everything I can to solve this and report it here.

For those that may be interested the latest patch 12/06/2017 has solved this problem 100%

I no longer have lag, I no longer have rubber banding OF ANY KIND!!

Now if ONLY we could get support to actually listen when we say 'The patch broke my game!' The online community would be a much happier place to be!

Last patch game broke.. This patch game fixed... It doesn't get any clearer!

Please ZOS listen to what people tell you!
