"Unable to initialize connection through steam"

I get this error at login screen. I have tried using the launcher, also have tried going to steam and launching game through steam itself but still get this error. I have a legit copy of the game and have been playing for a long time and I never had this issue. I recently changed my @name so could that be the reason? If so how do I change it on the login screen without it automatically trying to log me in?

Lots of people using the steam client been having this problem... Okay so, make sure steam is on online mode, make sure your friends list is online. After that, completely exit out of steam so it is not running at all. Then re-open the client and make sure its online / friends list is online. Then try.0
