Infinite character log in screen - ESO stops responding

This is the first time I've encountered this issue. The game loads fine up until the Character loading screen. Was able to log- in once and when I used a wayshrine the game froze. Logged back in frame rate and ping was horrendous. Tried to log back in on a different character and game hit the infinite loading screen for several different characters including the one I previously was able to access. Is there a work-around or an issue resolution to this?
