    Waiting for your cp video!

you know what. i actually have a AMA type of request. rather then a question. In your upcoming videos.

    1.
In Cyrodill when ever there is a 1v1 and sometimes 1v2 i find myself to be victorious. rarely i find myself able to 1vX even against total noobs.

I would love to see some videos from you explaining the principals of 1vX for magblades.

    2.
Whenever i am in Cyrodill and i think i finally got my build down. i always run into that 1 player. The player that takes everything i learned from being a magblade and makes me question if i am doing anything right.

For example today morning i run in to a stamblade. whatever i did i could not burst him down. i even used poisons. imovable /detect pots. he had enough recovery to sustain the fight and constantly dodge my attacks. on top of that he had high amount of dmg.

Now this is the part where i would L2P. however when i swapped my build i definitely felt that i had to choose between dps vs regen.

This being said.. i would love to see more vidoes about nightblade mechanics ...

Stamblades mainly thrive on cloak working like a charm this patch again - alongside the passive buffs to proccsets (imo).
Magblades benefit from overall reduced dmg (the game is less bursty) and buffs to their passive healing with siphoning attacks.

It was one of those patches where every NB was complaining before it went live and on live suddenly everyone plays their nightblades :joy:

Hey now, I was very positive once they started backing off of the Siphoning Attacks nerf. That initial nerf was ridiculous.

Transmutation and/or Wizard's Riposte. Having just one on makes you difficult to one shot and increases the effective health of your hots. Having both feels like heavy armor last patch, but I deal very low damage. I'm still highly susceptible to burst even with them, though. Most of my survival is due to timely blocking and fears with occasional mist form and tether or resto ult for heals.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Good stuff as always. A few gameplay questions for you:
    • I see you're not using impale in any of the clips. Just no room on your bar? Or has the meta switched to less tankier targets so that impale isn't needed in your kill combo anymore? As a side note, I was thinking it would be very useful for team deathmatch BGs to make sure you and your team get the killing blows on low health targets.
    • Do you think cloak is worth running in open world or BGs now? Or does it still take a back seat to other skills and for the most part still only worth slotting in sewers/IC?
    • Do you think just having entropy and path procs skoria enough to make it worthwhile? What about just path alone in cases where sap is used over entropy? Talking no CP here as that is what I've been focusing on. Just seems like I rarely get skoria to proc on ranged targets in particular.
    • Finally, and this is a broad question, but thoughts on merciless and siphoning attacks/leeching strike changes?
Also, any plans to make a gameplay video in BGs? Would love to see that.

Respect where its due. Great Job Kena! I've been following your builds for just a little bit, the CA/Spinners build you had up. I have tailored my build around yours. I appreciate you being such an awesome advocate for the nightblade. I've went full LA build, running Spinners/Julianos and its mediocre in such a way that I can't 1vX, and my dueling is somewhat ok.

Does shadowy disguise allow for crit heals? Are you using oblivion damage glyphs? Is this full 7LA?

Any stam class can roll and run away from a mageblade pretty easily. A stamblade denied his cloak is basically a stam dk with shade. Sorcs will streak, and templars will purge your snares.

I'm sorry you are discouraged. :( How have you adapted your build to the patch so far? If you want to be tankier to ganks, try running Wizard's Riposte. 15% is massive damage mitigation on everyone attacking you, and it debuffs the damage of the critting attack which procs it, perfect for defending against gankers.

I suspect cp issues too perhaps?

you know what. i actually have a AMA type of request. rather then a question.

Lol this hit me right in the feels. I hate fighting stamblades more than any class. The well built ones are a monster for an all ranged magblade to kill

    Mark.

He is right mark is the stamblade killer

Mostly mark means an unlimited dodge roll stamblades or running stamblade without any means to catch up

Today i was in cyrodill wearing 7 pieces HA all, 5 impenetrable and 2 (belt/boots) infused. I used Tava favor and heavy krag's hope. And i was still one shot because 5 attacks happened in 1 second (including proctardsets)

I really was looking forward to this patch but I find PvP worse then it was pre-Vvardelfell.

At least i am not enjoying PvP lately.

Thats just mostly due to how asenine the proccsets are in pvp, whoever designed those and implemented them to pvp in current state needs to get a good spanking.

Tell me your blue CP layout and item sets. Pay attention to the marginal rates of change (the percentage gained from the next additional point) betweem Master-at-Arms, Ele Expert, and Elfborn.

Your maximum burst will be the layout where the marginal increase of each of those three stars equal each other, and rng blesses you with all crits.

Your most consistent burst will be where the rate of change of MaA = that of EE = (that of Elfborn * your crit chance).

Every percentage based star rounds down to the nearest integer, sot trim extra points down and place them into Spell Erosion. The first several points of flat value stars were buffed significantly this patch, whereas those of percentage stars were actually decreased in value despite frontloading into the first 50 points.

As for your own survivability, @gibous might chime in with his opinion on Bastion for this patch. TLDR zero points because raw mitigation stars op.

I think I saw you say you're using Bloodthorn plus another sustain set somewhere? Correct me if I'm wrong. Are your spell damage and max magicka at decent numbers for cp to amplify?

Respect where its due. Great Job Kena! I've been following your builds for just a little bit, the CA/Spinners build you had up. I have tailored my build around yours. I appreciate you being such an awesome advocate for the nightblade. I've went full LA build, running Spinners/Julianos and its mediocre in such a way that I can't 1vX, and my dueling is somewhat ok.

Does shadowy disguise allow for crit heals? Are you using oblivion damage glyphs? Is this full 7LA?

Hey thanks! I use 5 light 2 heavy because heavy reinforced is all I have for a Valkyn shoulder. lol I would still use the second heavy because I value its passives more than medium armor passives. Argonian likes heavy armor passives and resistances.

Julianos Spinner will struggle to sustain this patch. Did you switch jewelry glyphs out? What are your exact issues in fights? Magicka sustain, stam, lethality, incoming damage, timing combos, etc etc?

Shadowy Disguise makes all heals crit while cloaked, yes. It used to make dots crit too..
I once killed a tank stam dk with the old Toxic Defiance, which was overperforming, with entropy > lethal arrow > poison injection > cloak away. I didn't attack from stealth, he was half health after my poison injection struck him, but repeated 9k dot ticks were too much to heal through.
That was a long time ago -- I think before ZOS made dots snapshot your stats on cast. I actually have no idea if dots currently crit while cloaked... Hmmmm. I shall test tonight. Lol

No oblivion glyphs on my mageblade right now. Don't worry though. My stam build uses all the procs. I was out running around with that last night. I tested the deeps on a buddy of mine, and it took 4 light attacks to kill him. Balanced.

Boy am I glad I'm DC. I love the skill allocation you've chosen, picking more "obscure" things like Leeching Strikes and Incap even though you're Magicka. Utilizing Elemental Drain for the extra damage and Magickasteal is something I almost never see in PvP, despite its power. Also that new Argonian resource hype 8)

I MISS IMPALE. I switched it out for Entropy so that I could use immovs and tripots instead of spell power pots. Stam is rather constrained this patch. Impale's speed would be great in BGs. Look at all those low health people in the video who would die 3/4 of a second earlier with no change to dodge, and give me some nice magicka back, had I been using it. I also can't decide if switching to Incap for its fast combos, added damage, and sick heal debuff 1) increased my lethality enough that I don't need Impale, or 2) synergizes so well with it that I'm a fool for not building around it.

Cloak is working very well this patch. I use it in BGs to prevent 4 man dogpiles, and have yet to die in BGs while still carrying teams as a result. I find cloak so....not fun on destro mageblade in open world, though. I just don't enjoy it because it breaks up my tempo. I just want to go ham in people's faces, and I build tankier and pick my fights well to enable that.

Yes, skoria procs all day every day. I have never noticed a lack of skoria procs in my life. Also keep in mind that my build is most lethal in melee range. I build with the full intention of fighting in melee range of opponents.

The Merciless change makes combos feel sluggish. I really feel it. I hate it. I have been enjoying firing two or three procs off, but I find that in order to get multiple, I have to rush them, inhibiting my ability to deliberately combo with them. Rusing wills may make for a nice dps parse, but it doesn't kill players. So in general I'm still holding each proc for a good opportunity to combo and refreshing after. We'll see how I adjut chained procs into my play style as I become more accustomed to it.

Leeching Strikes is awesome. It's hugely nerfed stam sustain compared to the old Siphoning Attacks, sure, but it works. I find myself barely able to sustain at just under 10k stamina with that, argonian, and tripots/immovs, concluded that 10k is very low stamina this patch, and switched to tristat food two nights ago. Feels great now.

I'll make a gameplay video of BGs when BGs work. I couldn't even get a queue to pop over the weekend.

So, do u prefer rpioste + trans or DMG set + trans/riposte?

What if u would add for DMG set + trans/riposte pirate skeleton instead of valkyn. I know u will get the heal debuff, but I think it the DMG Motivation would benefit u way more (especially as an argonian, it would be nearly the same if u would be breton/he/de)

Or does valkyn so much DMG, that u cant chabhe it in that particular gamestyle?

Any stam class can roll and run away from a mageblade pretty easily. A stamblade denied his cloak is basically a stam dk with shade. Sorcs will streak, and templars will purge your snares.

I'm sorry you are discouraged. :( How have you adapted your build to the patch so far? If you want to be tankier to ganks, try running Wizard's Riposte. 15% is massive damage mitigation on everyone attacking you, and it debuffs the damage of the critting attack which procs it, perfect for defending against gankers.

I suspect cp issues too perhaps?

I will try (imkpenetrable) LA riposte or transmutation. Probable the latter since my AP is low as I RNG'ed to much. And then in combination with spinner or something.

I play on non-CP so cp is not the issue here

I did notice on CP campaign my survivability is higher then on non-CP because basicly the resource drain poisons wreak havoc on non-CP.

I've done quite well with sustain, and adapting to the patch using more light/heavy attacks. I'm just not hitting hard enough at times, and when I am overwhelmed with two or more I melt easily. I evade with Cloak + concealed weapon, regen, then go back at it. I've ganked, and have done well to eliminate the enemy, but a more experienced duelist comes in and destroys. I am considering ditching the Vamp in favor of less damage caused by dawnbreaker/FG passives, but i'm on the fence on that one. I am also looking at War Maidens in place of julianos. My jewelry are part of spinners set. Apprentice, 5 divines, one impen, one infused, 1486 Crit Resis.

Mathematically DMG is lower than last patch (unless your enemy specced CP wrong) alongside more need for sustain.

The worst case we could see in homestead was 93.75% of pre cp tooltip dmg.
The worst case we could see now is 84% of pre cp tooltip dmg.

This patch allows for flatout 9.75% more absolute dmg reduction by CP compared to last patch (for 200 into dd increase vs 200 into dd defense). It only gets worse when figuring in that last patch people had to divide their mitigation CP between two stars physical/magica which is no longer the case.

In practice you will most likely not see these absolute extreme scenarios but in any case where you see your dmg go up your enemy specced their CP wrong - because as you said yourself: The new dmg reduction CP are op.

I´m sitting at 3600 spelldmg 41k magica when bursting (which is obviously lower than 39k mag 4.6k spelldmg last patch).
I personally just really don´t enjoy sustained dps metas where a player has to make multiple mistakes to die (when he´s aware of being attacked).

Wrong, the damage cp are equally as strong point for point but will outweigh the mitigation ones if your opponent specs any points in both hardy and ele defender, or any points in quick recovery. You're completely disregarding Master-at-Arms. You don't use dots, unless you're potatoing around with destro ult, so it's basically the old Ele Expert for you, plus the new Ele Expery on the side.

With proper setups, your Master-at-Arms will mirror their Iron Skin. Your Ele Expert will exceed their Ele Defender because they spec some into Hardy. And your Elfborn will vastly exceed their Resistant because it's now the filler behind Quick Recovery if they want any healing bonus at all. Blessed is very hard to justify with Master-at-Arms in the mix.

We'll see how I adjut chained procs into my play style as I become more accustomed to it.

When I first read about Grim Focus.. I saw this coming from miles away. Any Magblade would hold on to their bow vs shoot as many bows as possible.

The only way I see chain combo ing the spectral bow in 1VX is when you pop an immove pot right before your first spectral bow is ready. This means you have roughly 15 seconds on you grim focus to work on the next bow proc and 15 seconds of knock back immunity. best case you may be able to shoot another 2 spectral bows. Talk about feeling rushed ... Jeez

I would love to hear and learn other mechanics to take full advantage of the new Grim focus.
