So how are Battlegrounds?

I started my download last night and well... I'm from Mississippi and we don't have the fastest internet in my location. So it may be a day or two before it's ready XD. I'm curious if Battlegrounds perform like Cyrrodil? Do you tend to lag out to loading screens or stutter step around the map? I haven't seen any posts about the performance of battlegrounds. Thank you all in advance.

    unplayable.

15-20 mins queu, ping 999+, after which you get kicked from the game, and you can't pre-group up with friends.

Yesterday at first the queue didn't work at all. Then it started to work, but was buggy.
Today it dosn't work as well (though in another way).

    That's my experience.

Hmmm.... I havent played much within the past 2 weeks.... The last small patch made the overall latency spike from 100-999+. Kinda hard to do vet pledges with that going on. My ping was a steady 60 as well.

It's hit or miss. Queueing is really messed up and you frequently get hit with deserter penalties after the match for no apparent reason (locks you out of queuing for a while).

Once you get in, it's likely the match won't be full--4v4v2 or 4v3v3 is common, I had one 2v2v3. Assuming the match is fairly even, they are pretty fun!

Proc sets and poisons are obnoxious, but nothing that can't be handled.

Rewards are just okay, leaderboards reward time played more than performance.

It's worth messing around in for sure! I would recommend queuing while you do something else (questing, farming mats, etc.) so you don't too frustrated with the queue. And even though I'm not the most positive person about them, I think they have a ton of potential!

I love the action I admit it is fun but until I can run with my buddies I will have no fun I enjoy playing with my friends and wrecking house. What I don't like is jumping in a match and having your only teammate run in to die every time without waiting so you wait for your balls to the wall teammate only to find him avoiding you so he can 1vX C'MON MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should a casual player avoid battlegrounds?

I don't have poisons and I do not want to go through the effort of leveling alchemy just to do bg's.
I also do not have any proc sets.
    So should I avoid battlegrounds?

I rate it a 7. Will go up to 8 once the major bugs are fixed. Compared to most major system releases, there aren't very many bugs in BGs. IC had mannny more bugs on release. However, the handful of bugs are whoppers.

Getting as many people as possible in battlegrounds queue at all different skill levels makes it a lot easier for there to be fair matches.

I think every single character should have max alchemy because it makes the potions you drink stronger. However, the benefit of using poisons on weapon is perhaps a bit exaggerated IMO - there is a significant tradeoff because they proc a lot less frequently than enchantments and the resource cost poisons have been reduced from 60% to 30%. Experimented with lots of different poisons but tend to favor more using instead 1 weapon damage glyph and 1 prismatic onslaught glyph (lot of vampires in PVP).

If there are matches starting with less than full groups, this strongly suggests there are not enough people queuing yet, which is why some report uneven matches or dropping out in the middle of the match. That's how it was on PTS whenever the population got low. I believe matches stop immediately when any team drops below 2 players, resulting in loading screen for everybody.

If there are tons of people queuing, then the premades and players with high KDR get matched with similar players and the beginners get matched against beginners.

That doesn't sound like a convincing argument for a casual player to do BG's.
Putting a player like myself with just crafted gear against players with one shot instant kill proc sets is not what Id call a fair match. It sounds more like a slaughter and im the sheep.
Alchemy is annoying and expensive to level and dropped potions are good enough for my uses so I wont be doing that just for poisons.

I think you misunderstand what I was saying about alchemy. Maxing this skill is kinda useful for every single character, whether you are doing PVE or PVP or whatever, because it makes the potions you drink stronger, even dropped potions. And it only takes about 5 minutes to go from 0 to 50.

You asked if a casual player should avoid battlegrounds. In my case I'm a casual player and I enjoyed BG a lot. I tried various poisons in BG but ultimately prefer using glyphs. It's up to you, I wouldn't avoid them, maybe try it a bit and see what you think or watch some youtube videos to get a sense of it. At any rate I didn't feel like it was necessary to use poisons in BG.

If you queue up for battlegrounds when there are a lot of other people queued up at the same time, then there will be more beginners vs beginners. If you queue up when there are not enough people participating, then teams might be less balanced.

The grouping is bad, probably because the grouping tool is fundamentally broken and most likely needs to be rewritten from the ground up.

Fun(once you get in) if you like total chaos in small scale PvP, which I do

I played probably around a couple dozen BG matches last night.

Overall, very fun. Love the maps and the modes. Getting a reward mail after every match is a great touch too.

Once I figure out my mDK build for that sort of pvp play... I will enjoy it even more. (though lvling a magsorc or a proctato build of some sort to be relevant might be entertaining too.... )
