Wish i didnt have to lose 8% Max Magic to slot Bear Ulti...

It seems this really isn't a viable option for anyone trying to do any sort of actual dps with a Mag Warden.
I really wish i had the option to use the bear and still have viable magic dps.
I like Magic and I like Bears.

Please elaborate for those of us without Morrowind. Is there an actual 8% magic reduction from slotting it?

You get 8% magicka for the ice skill line ulti. You can't slot 2 ulti's while using the bear.

Yeah it's a bit sad, I was hoping to recreate some of my Ranger fun times from Guild Wars 2 (yes I actually enjoyed playing with pets in that game, even though they were kinda crap), but losing 8% magicka is pretty huge.

No. the winters embrace ULTI gives a 8% max magic bonus... which sounds great, but basically IMO its just pigeon holing magic builds into having to always slot it soley for the bonus and therefore never being able to use the bear which needs to be double slotted.

I always play magic builds, but i'm actually considering just going Stam so i can use the bear without gimping myself.... which bugs me a bit.

    Good point.
I've been trying to decide between doing a stamina warden and a magicka warden, and this is a reason for me to go stamina. There are other reasons to go magicka, though, so it's a tough choice.

I didn't expect a free ult would be worthwhile for strong dps. Kinda like the storm atro isn't that hot for sorcs.

    But they're fun solo.

    Dude, it's a tradeoff.

Will the 8% bonus magicka give you more DPS than using the Bear ultimate? That is the question.

I would like to keep the 8% weapon damage from flawless dawnbreaker and use the bear ult but it just doesn't work that way.

    yeah, exactly.
i'd much rather go magic otherwise since it opens up more healing possiblities at the same time as dps.

It seems like a very purposeful desing decision to put that magic bonus on the "tank" tree ult... though i'm having a hard time wrappping my head around what purpose that is.
It'd be one thing if we could actually make a functional frost dps... but yeah.

8% magicka is quite a lot. Consider going necropotance pet build on Warden with 50k magicka. That 8% is 4k magicka on top of that which equals roughly into 400 spell damage. This class became more interesting the more I look into it.

Of course if you run Necropotence you get permanent Max Magicka boost... plus, with the changes to Warden on Live, you get 2% increase of ALL damage for each Animal Companion abilities you have slotted. This was a change from Beta where you only got 2% per slotted increase damage for Animal Companion abilities only.

obviously... i just sorta hate that they made the coolest skill IMO something that isnt really going to be viable for MAgic builds AFAIK.

Personally i dont think the tradeoff should be having something cool vs remaining competitive.
Instead it should be dps type A vs dps type B.

Who knows, maybe i'm jumping the gun and someone can create a build that shows its viable, or maybe the bear will get buffed.
Just doenst seem like it so far.

You trade 8% max magicka for 2% increased dmg (animal companion passive)

The visuals for the winter ultimate look bargain basement, too. Unless they changed it for launch. Really, really plain.

It's only 2% if you only slot ONE Animal Companion, otherwise it's 2% increase to ALL damage abilities for each Animal Companion ability you have slotted. On my build I have three slotted plus running Necropotence and Elegance so I have plenty of Magicka and plenty of damage. Oh, but I'm also not a min/maxer worried about 'end game' and apparently ZOS isn't either. ;)

Personally I think it's more fun to come up with build ideas when there are interesting choices like this. If all the choices are easy then you end up seeing a lot of people running the same exact thing (i.e., crystal frag vs crystal blast etc)

Sort of on topic, if I'm understanding this correctly, one cannot recreate the initial trailer where it appeared the warden cast the winter ulti and had the bear out?

What ult you slot doesn't affect the rest of your bar, and your ult is only one slot, so the trade is 8% magicka vs. 2% damage as that person originally said.

Ah, I get what you're saying... still, it forces people to make choices, and that's what this entire update was about, forcing people to pick and choose between options.
