How integral is the Fast Travel system to your gameplay?

Would you rather enjoy the experience moreso if you had to manualy travel across the entire map by foot or mount? Or would it just destroy your enjoyment of the game and make it impossible to play?

This is considering if every zone were physically accessible to each other by some kind of route.

I would love it, if the game were balanced for such a thing but most of the ESO world is a wasteland.

Games that did it successfully had reasons to travel the world, and great risk/reward system.

That is not this game, and never will be.

Other than avoiding the climb to High Hrothgar, I don't tend to use fast travel for the single player TES games because the fun part is wandering into some dungeon, getting sidetracked and completely ignoring whatever quest you were doing previously. By the time you arrive at some town you were supposed to visit on the other side of the map, you already had all kinds of epic adventures along the way.

When I started playing ESO during the beta, I played the same way, but later I found that i enjoyed PVP more and began to avoid PVE as much as possible except to maximize the character.

I will probably make a new character and play this way for Morrowind, though, at least until whenever I want to get the character ready for PVP.

I agree that when starting out in the game, or exploring new zones, traveling around on foot or by horse is the only way to really explore and find out what is out there.

When rolling out your 9th or 10th character this becomes tiresome and fast travel, either to known wayshrines, owned homes or to guild mates in areas you do not know, is invaluable. I could not be without it now.

It would be cool in a different game. ESO does seem to be designed with fast travel in mind.

And that's exactly why I use Fast Travel a lot in the single player TES games - because exploring/getting sidetracked/etc is fun. What isn't fun is running back & forth over the same cleared-out road dozens of times (to drop off loot at my base). Travel to & from where I'm exploring would take up more & more of my game time, making it a tedious, unfun chore. :) I love taking my time to look under every rock, stare at the landscape, etc... and I wouldn't have as much time to do that if I spent most of my playtime in transit.

Of course, that's the single player game. In ESO.... yeah, I use Wayshrines a lot, because I tend to bounce between lots of zones doing errands. Doing writs & dailies on several characters would take hours & hours if I walked/rode everywhere. (Now, when I'm exploring a zone/questing, I go from one end of it to the other with a fine-tooth comb... interspersed with wayshrine travel to hit a bank/deliver a note to the other end of the map, etc.)

I wouldn't mind not having wayshrines so much if I were just progressing through a zone questing, because I tend to start at one end of the map and work my way through anyway.

But taking into account all of the times I have to go to a specific location for a daily quest, or to drop off a writ, or to collect a survey or treasure map, or get back to town quickly to decon and stash loot... yeah, I'd be wasting a lot of time and feeling pretty crabby if I couldn't wayshrine to where I needed to go.

I felt the same way in Skyrim, and read the same advice about not skipping the random encounters you get while you're traveling on foot, and for a while that's how I did it, but about the time I had the Thieves Guild sending me all over creation just to rob one house and come back, I realized that it was less fun for me to take an extra 20 minutes just walking somewhere to do a 5-minute quest.

If the world was more seemless with the zones being truly connected rather than with load screens between them then the wayshrine system wouldnt be as neccisarry to me. As it stands i would hate to see wayshrines go

Theives Guild and Dark Brotherhood dailies, as currently designed, would be impossible. Same if leveling writ on a one-craft master crafter. Personally, if I don't wayshrine 15 times an hour, I am grinding mats.

I use it often. means I can get from one place to another easily, it's a gold sink, albeit a small one. You've got to discover the wayshrines first, which is nice. but if you've a friend and you want to go play in their instance there's nothing stopping you from fast travelling to another player, which is also nice.

I like wandering around. I would not like being required to wander around. There's already plenty of that in my game, in Cyrodiil.

Sometimes I'm in a hurry - there are also a couple of zones I just don't like or want to be in longer than I have to. I like the fast-travel system, and I really like being able to port from anywhere to my house, which is very near a wayshrine.

Sometimes I'm in a hurry because of limited time so I like fast travel. Doing daily crafting writs and then completing and turning in master writs that come from that would be a pain in the ass if I had to travel across the map. Plus the whole clipping into furniture while using the Blade of Woe thing would be much worse if I couldn't fast travel out of the bookcase I got stuck in. So I think it's very integral to my game play.

    Exactly this.

I want a Mark and Recall spell just for the dailies. IF the fast travel wasn't around though, I'd expect those daily missions to be worth 20-40 times as much xp and greater rewards. Also think about how terrible the Dolmen rotations would be >_<

I enjoy just strolling and exploring the eso environment on foot/mount as I go along collecting material for my crafter. However, if they removed the wayshrines, it would make life incredibly difficult. Especially when I do writs or have to return back to city to deconstruct items and use a bank before I do quests.

Very. I use it all the time because I can't spend hours upon end (unless its a lucky day on the weekend) just running around and exploring things. I would love to to be honest but I just can't spare the time.

I am really happy we have fast travel. I used to play WoW and it bothered me SO much having to fly during like 5 minutes (I actually had to just go afk while auto flying because it would take that long). It was just not fun. Fast travel makes the game playable imo. Tamriel is not as big as Azeroth (yet :P) but still I would hate walking everywhere.

When I quest I enjoy walking around and discovering places, however when im doing my dailies & stuff I appreciate having the wayshrines.

My play style would be impossible without wayshrines. Everything I do, from crafting writs to dailies to quests to survey/treasure chest maps to escaping guards relies on fast travel. If I want to pointlessly waste my real life just getting from A to B I'd go to Cyrodiil, which I try very hard not to do.

    Eh.
Play in cyrodil when the others have all the transitus routes blocked, and you get that scounting mission across the map... yeah, it can be a pain... (though if you have the time, that sort of thing can be fun as well for some!)

It'd be worse for the dailies... say you sit in mournhold and get a daily to go to, say, eastmarch... without fast travel, that means riding to Narsis, up to stonefalls, nothwesat to the rift, then north to eastmarch... or crafting writs, going to a harbour in stonefalls, then taking a ship to stormhaven, then going through bangkorai into craglorn...
    ...
...a bit much for a simple daily quest, right? You'd end up staring at your measly rewards and go like "I went through all that trouble for... this???"

So, I doubt it would ever be changed from the way it is. Too many people would hate it, and since ZOS doesn't make money from people who leave their game...

And anyways, those who prefer to "enjoy the experience"... can do so by just not using the wayshrines! I know I sometimes do that, just walk through the landscape, smell the flowers, then pick them for alchemy supplies... usually when looking into forgotten corners of the map to see if I might stumble over a treasure chest or three... (and I often do)

integral. I do like exploring and just picking a direction and just following it, but at the same time, I love that its a choice rather something I have to do. there is nothing fun about commuting for the sake of commuting for me. I've done way too much of that in rl, still have to at times and even as I tend to use that time to read or nap, its just... such a waste.

Ew no. I'd uninstall. I mean don't get me wrong, exploring a new zone for the first time is fun and all, but half an hour ride to empty the bags? Also, that'd imply removing fast travel to player, too, right? How'd that work with dungeons/trials/dsa? "Sorry guys, I'd love to join you for that ROM run but unfortunately I'm in Daggerfall and you're literally all the map away from me...maybe if you're okay waiting an hour for me to ride there..?"

I use them, but I don't pay for them. I walk to the nearest one and travel from there. Wouldn't play without them. I tried reaching Autumn's gate with my horse, came across keeps with closed doors from two sides and finally gave up and fasttravelled to a guild mate in the Rift

Having a fast travel system always makes the game world feel very small, no matter how big it actually is. I remember what a big deal it was in DAoC when you were at snowdonia and needed to get to hadrian's wall :) I would have liked TESO to not have a fast travel system.

That being said, i do not think it is realistic to remove it now. People would just explode with rage. For it to work, the game would have to be released that way right from the start.
